surely they can't sell it at £499.... $499 works out at £305... and if they say they are keeping it the same price as the original ipad which is currently £329 for the 16gb wifi version...

iPad 1 has a new lower price. Keep up man!

They've always done £1 - $1. It's nothing new. Not fair, I know.

Anyone else get the feeling that if they announced it was quad core, came with magnifying glass and quadruple screen resolution, weighed an ounce and had a bolted on digital slr the same people would still find something to complain about. Haters are going to hate...everything that was wished for with the exception of what would have been an insanely expensive retina display were offered and people are still acting like it wasnt enough.

Of course people will complain. It's Apple. People need something to focus all of their irrational (or rational) hate. It makes their lives more interesting.

I'm not an Apple fanboy, just find all this bashing amusing.

Look at how much they focus on apps like Garageband and iMove, all the games etc, yet don't give us any info on VPN, Document Viewing, and things corp. would use.

Why do you need info? VPN just works. Never had a problem connecting to work and working remotely. Document viewing? Buy GoodReader for $2.99 and you're done.

I like the display mirroring. Though I do not know when or why I would ever need to use it, I definitely think it is a neat idea.

If you were really serious about using your iPad as a laptop AND using that "laptop" with an external display. Or, more usefully, for people who don't have Apple TVs or equivalent, plug your iPad into your TV via HDMI and watch movies, or play games.

I use the iPad for a lot of writing, but specifically because it's so compact, so I'd never want an external display while working. And we have an Apple TV and, I don't know, like 14 PS3s or something, so we're definitely covered on the movie-watching and gaming front; I'd fall into that can't figure when or why I'd ever use it category.

EVERY product - from toaster to whatever you can buy has a learning curve.

The question is - how interested is the person using it in actually LEARNING how to use their purchase.

Android, WebOS, Windows, OSX, iOS - all have learning curves. None of the OS's and devices "just work"

They also all have glitches. Crashes. Freezes. Etc.

We can always rely on Sam to state the bleeding obvious.

Now if 2012's iPad changes little from the iPad 2 but throws in the iPad version of the iPhone 4 Retina display, you might get my attention. But that's a year away.

Well that goes to show how diverse the user base is, had they released a new one with little changes except for a retina display I wouldn't be interested in an ipad 2. Based on the early rumors I expected the 2nd generation to be skippable to me, i have no interest in cameras or a retina display, i was much more interested in a performance boost now that the features have been revealed i've pretty much made up my mind i'm passing on my 1st gen to my kids. I guess we all have different opinions about whats important in a feature set.

I think I'm going to wait for the iPad 3. This wasn't much of an upgrade at all... But Apple surly made it seem like one. They're good at that. I'll give them props for that. But in reality... The device is exactly the same except for the front and rear facing camera. Oh and I forgot to mention that it will load a website in 2.3 seconds instead of 2.6 seconds. Honestly speed is not much of a must have for me. I rather see new software customization features. When this happens, then that can truly state it will be a year to remember.

Thats why the Xoom and other will succeed because businesses will buy them in bulk
No they won't.

What businesses? I work in a consulting business where we need computing power yet we're all still operating on windows XP and IE 6 because our other software providers aren't up to date and steering the corporate accounts are like steering ocean liners. Businesses operate very slowly.

Lol. I can just see thousands of corporate accounting departments greenlighting Xoom purchases so that the middle managers can sit around and ... read pdfs and excel spreadsheets? Check their email?

Tablets, while cool toys, just aren't replacing laptops in business areas anytime soon.

Ipad defined the market and for every fanboy that thinks "big deal, so it's a little thinner, lighter, and faster ..." another iPad gets sold because cutting edge just ain't in the hardware specs.

People complain just as much - if not more about Apple's competitors. I find that bashing just as amusing

If it's so obvious - why do people still perpetuate this misnomer and shout it as gospel on threads like this. Roll your eyes at me all you want...

This must be coming from someone who doesnt have a xoom? The Google Experience tablet is FAAAAR more intergrated than the Ipad and ios.

Ipad had its bugs, and still has them. Xoom has its bugs too, and those will be worked out over time... as was the iPads.

Umm, sorry bub. iOS may have some bugs, but not nearly as many as Android. You can kid yourself all you want but google released an os with a ton of bugs and left the users of said os the basically fend for themselves in public forums. I expect that from my Linux versions I tinker with but not with a device with a $700+ entry price tag. Plus the customer support is handled by some guy named "David" in India and, well I think you know where this is going. I've used the samsung tab and had a little time on the Xoom (My daughter works with Samsung and version) and it's not intuitive for the average user at all. Plus when it starts to multi-task it starts to lag big time and will freeze on you in time. I've never had an experience like that with any apple product so if we're comparing bugs, the Xoom wins hands down. As I've said before we have both platforms in my house and the iOS experience is far more elegant. Looks like we have a android in our ranks?

So if I have a 2004 Mac Book Pro, I will more than likely have to upgrade my OS for $129 in order to use the Ipad 1 or 2? That is somewhat of a buzz kill.

So, is Today a day when iPad officially fell behind the competition?

Up until today, when XOOM and iPad were compared many people would say: " You are comparing new tech (XOOM) with a one year old tech (iPad)". Now iPad 2 is newer than XOOM and, while it does have some advantages (being thinner is probably the most notable one), iPad falls way short on too many specs.

Don't pay any attention to him.......

If our esteemed colleague was making a sarcastic comment, I'm sorry it went over my head. I thought I was seeking clarification. Sorry I wasted your time. :( Unaweza kufundisha Boer Kiswahili lakini huwezi kufanya naye kujaribu ya nyama siri.

I think it's a way to justify not forking over the money to upgrade. They can't say, hey, it's a great spec update, especially for first-time owners, and a good number of new features, but I'm not upgrading this cycle.

I wrote a lengthy post above explaining my reasoning, but I'm out this cycle. But I still think the iPad 2 is nice. If my wife suddenly wants an iPad and will be content will my original, I'll go get an iPad 2. That's not going to happen this year, though.

Yes, it's the the same as the original iPad, if you ignore the video cameras.

Oh, and the reduced size. And the reduced weight. And the faster CPU. And the faster GPU. And the video mirroring. And the improved speaker. And the choice in colors. And...

It's pathetic, could you ever imaging motorola having a higher resolution screen on an equivalent product to Apple (who pride themselves in screen technology)? It's a joke.

Whats less intuitive about honeycomb, explain? Why is iOS more intiutive?

Name some bugs from your experience with Honeycomb?

So with the A5 chip and hopefully a decent amount of memory, could a Psystar or similar company figure out how to load Snow Leopard (or Lion) onto the iPad 2 and sell for a profit?

Shouldn't break the EULA because it's :apple: software on :apple: hardware...

Specs dont matter remember. /s
