It is a pro computer. You buy it because it makes you money when you use it. If it doesn't make you money, you aren't a pro and the computer was not built for you. Lots of folks will buy this and they will improve their work flow and the computer will pay for itself in a year. For some folks it will pay for itself in a month.

It isn't for surfing the web and playing video games at home.

Yes you're correct, but where is apples computer for playing video games at home? Dont say iMac :p

boaring zzzzzz snore zzzzzz... the Mac Pro so far was the only new thing confirming the hardware spec. Rest of this is boring so far...

A lot of things they are showing software wise do seem to be taken from other products?

$3K for a non-upgradable, non-expandable "pro" computer with four freakin' cores and a 256GB SSD?

What an epic failure. I could have lived with a Mini Pro if it were cheaper than the Mac Pro tower, but not this overpriced joke. Apple now has nothing to offer those who like to buy an relatively expensive computer but keep it for a long time while continually upgrading it. They have nothing to offer for "prosumer" home users.

Hopefully once my Hexacore Mac Pro is obsolete, the Mac Mini will be a viable option. I'll never buy an iMac, as I have an ethical objection to being locked in to a display with non-upgradable components slapped onto the back of it. I don't care how thin my desktop computer is.

We can expect the hackintosh community to finally blast off. For $1000 one could build a Hackintosh that would run with or exceed a $3K Mac Pro for most uses.

Hasn't it always been that way?

Yes but any consumer device has to have version 2.0 for 4k. And from my understanding so did your computer. It's still daft because if version 2.0 is available now, why are they not fitting it when the computer can have all the other very high spec bits of hardware? Perhaps Mavericks can't work with HDMI 2.0?
1.4a does support 4k in FPS less than 30. If someone want's higher fps than they need HDMI 2.0. My Sony 4K TV will be getting a software update that ups the spec to 2.0. Not sure if it's possible with a Pro or not.

Is Cook building us up with all of this talk of customer creativity to unveil Aperture or other pro apps for iPad?

Finally....

Ha! Safari JUST started streaming the event... almost 1 hour late. (And the stream is 1 hour behind the live (iPhone) version).

But I'm so far into it I can't watch it on Safari now. :(

People stop arguing about the $3000 computer price.

If you can buy and want it, go ahead otherwise just move on...

Think Tim's awkward presentations have to do with him being a supply guy. He just doesn't have the "oh look, I'm a geeky engineer onstage" charm that the other presenters have.
