Lets take design as read, because beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. (I Personally like both). What is far superior about the 360, with regards to technology, features, and user interaction?

The 360 looks nice, although somewhat plain. I was sort of surprised that Apple went with a rectangular design, as a rounded design would be better suited for women's watches. I noticed that the Apple Watch Edition will be available in rose gold as well as gold.

It will be interesting to see how this sells. We'll find out next April, I guess. If Apple sells this to about 7% of their iPhone customers, they'll hit the 10 million in one year that some analysts were predicting before today.

The watch seems like Apple's response from the public and Wall street on "We need something new!"

Looks like a very decent effort. Incredible? No.

Its the first iteration, so give them time. I am sure versions 3 and 4 etc.. will be even further refined and more functional than other watches.

The health sensors and the payment system are what sets this watch apart from other smart watches.

But to pay $349.00 for something that has a battery life of one day and the only advantage is that you can "just wave your hand"... seems like a bummer.

If I am lazy enough to not be able to use my phone then a watch on the wrist isn't going to help either.

What is the point of the fitness features if you still need to carry your iphone around with you?

This.

I cycle a lot and the promo videos showed a so-called serious cyclist with it on.

Reality is we all have a Garmin or Power Meter rather than a watch on the wrist and phone in a jersey pocket.

No way would I wear this when cycling. The fitness tracking wouldn't come close to the level of detail we are currently used to.

U2 Album?

Did you want it?

I must say I was very underwhelmed. Not having Sapphire and only 16GB of storage for the base model really has me thinking I'll wait for next years incremental release, which will be the first time I've skipped the new iPhone since the 1. I'll probably get the wife the 6 Plus though just to get her back to the IOS ecosystem because the only reason she switched to the Note was for the screen size.

The watch was really underwhelming as well. The features all seem to be there (except for needing to be tethered to the iPhone), but I was expecting something more... interesting.

Sold out.

Phone looks horrendous; the size; build - EVERYTHING.

The Watch, what a missed attempt.

Steve has left the building - so has Apple.

So about 2pm EST was when the keynote transitioned from talking about the iphone to talking about the :apple: watch.......

aaaaaaand plummet

It's at $98.90 as I write this. Probably a few things going on:
  • Deflation of the irrational bubble in the stock price as the iPhone 6/6 Plus were announced
  • The Apple Watch is nice, but probably not a "game changer" like the original iPhone, and entering a crowded market with an experienced adversary in Samsung that isn't as stodgy as Motorola and Nokia were in 2007.
  • Apple Watch not available until 2015, and so it misses the holiday sales season.

The bottom line is that the smartwatch is shaping up to be an accessory, not a primary sales driver. It's not as if Samsung has experienced a sales boom.

The 360 is 4 year behind in tech, and so for beauty... Its OK, but huge and clunky. Apple will actually make very small watches.

That's just it... not everyone thinks it's an ugly watch. I'm not even a watch fan and I really like it. It's attractive to me. Which means, that (playing the odds) it's attractive to a good many other humans who have money and can, you know, buy stuff.

You liked the original iPhone, but there were millions who didn't. Look at iPhone now. This Apple Watch concept will evolve. Maybe you don't like it now, but maybe you'll like it next year. Or the next. Who knows?

You are right - maybe they will do something with it and improve it to the point where it will be worth it. I think the band idea was worthwhile (but that's not what they made).

And why copy the form factor of a watch? Think Different. There is no need, the old watch design was for analog gears and springs etc. The full wrist band that is a screen that went halfway around it - with automated apps that told me something I needed to know - that might have made me a believer.

But that isn't what Apple did.

It rose as high as $103.08, then fell during the iWatch presentation, crept back up when U2 got on, and then dropped to $96.14 as soon as the presentation ended. It's creeping back up to breakeven right now. All in about 2.5 hours. Lest anyone think Wall Street is rational.

you're talking about single digit percentage swings in a course of a day...pretty standard for all stocks these days with high volatility overall

I must say I was very underwhelmed. Not having Sapphire and only 32GB of storage for the base model really has me thinking I'll wait for next years incremental release, which will be the first time I've skipped the new iPhone since the 1. Let's face it. Smartphones are a mature technology. All we get are incremental improvements now. The lack of sapphire is probably a supply issue. Apple needs all that GT can produce for the Apple Watch, and until it has a sense of how well that will sell, it won't commit large volumes to the iPhone.

The iPhone 6 Plus has a higher resolution than I was expecting. I wasn't thinking about getting it, but I'll consider it now (I'll probably just go with the 64GB iPhone 6, though). I think I'll want to see the watch in person. It looks nice, though it doesn't have the "wow" factor that the original iPhone did. But then again, neither did the original iPad, and it sold well and has been a good product.

Stocks in general were moderately lower today. The Apple stock swings all took place during the keynote and immediately afterward. I'm guessing there were a combination of longs and shorts based on Apple knocking it out of the park, or striking out entirely. They got a solid single (the rumors were mostly on the mark).

What to you makes "the full wrist band that is a screen that went halfway around it..." a better form factor?

Don't really understand this comment. I wear my watch on my right wrist it has the crown and two additional buttons in the same position and I have no problem Operating them.

Visualize it. If one wears it on the right wrist (as most left-handed people do) the multi-functional crown is on the right side of the watch. In order to access it, which one will have to do often to utilize the many features of the watch, one must reach with the left hand to the back-side (least accessible side) of the watch, thereby obscuring the watch face thus being unable to tell what one is doing. Awkward, not easy, frustrating. File this with (and I'm assuming you are right-handed): take a pair of conventional scissors in your left hand. Try to cut something. You can't.

I work in finance. Promise you no one is using an Apple keynote as a barometer of trading activity. In the same way Apple's stock went down (as is the norm when stocks go up and down) the day after Steve Jobs died. In a few months it reached highs Apple has never seen while Steve was alive - $700.

An earnings call (with missed or record earnings) have more of an impact than a technology keynote.

From apple.com, seems like the optical image stabilisations is only available on iPhone 6 Plus. This is just wrong! I want a small phone with a fully featured camera!

I'm not sure why did they made them so big? Where's the one hand UX?! Tim is definitely more of a sales person than someone interested in making something usable. The Plus is longer than a Galaxy Note. And I was making jokes on some colleagues at work how silly the look... How silly I would look if I'd buy an iPhone 6 Plus, now?

I guess you're right. I just wish the base 6 plus had 32GB. If it did then I wouldn't be on the fence at all, but 3 bills for half the storage of my current phone is too steep for me to commit.
