I guess I meant, it wouldn't make much sense to buy one now and then have to see everyone walking around in 4 months with a newer phone. But I think I'm just projecting my feelings. :D

I know but if you're a Verizon customer those phones won't be compatible with your network anyway and/or no AT&T coverage in your area. Plus Verizon customers should be used to seeing new iPhones without having access to them immediately by now given the past 3/4 years.

So where are all the people that said it was not going to happen at now? I bet they feel like fools now don't they?...

I heard its unlimited data up to 5gb cap though.
So in reality...its not Unlimited.

You heard wrong.. There is no 5GB cap.. I wish people stop with their BS about being caps because you are all clueless..

And there's the deal breaker for me. Nothing more awesome than being on the phone with someone and being able to look up restaurants on Yelp or looking at Maps while talking to someone, at least here in NYC.

Definitely won't be switching because of that.

I guess the "SVDO" chip thing didn't pan out. If it was really just as simple as using a different chip, I can't believe Apple wouldn't have done it. It would have really stood out from the Android on Verizon crowd.

I think this suggests a new iphone before sept.:

Those are prices for your upgrade eligibility. Thats the date you can get it subsidized.

I'd definitely switch if they'd enable FaceTime over 3G. Hotspot functionality is almost worth it… esp. if it includes unlimited data… (I know, jailbreak and you get both…)

I hope AT&T follow suite too, but no simultaneous voice & data somewhat kills the usefulness of tethering on Vz to me. Tethering is pretty useless if it means the phone won't ring while it's in use, or you can't talk to a co-worker while using whatever you've tethered to.

With Verizon your phone will still ring (or so I have read here). This is in contrast to AT&T's edge service where if you have a constant data connection (i.e. streaming) the phone will not ring.

mobile hotspot is good if you have unlimited data, otherwise it'll rape your bandwidth.

also, no voice and data at the same time.

If you're tethering to your iPad for occasional use, it's perfect and shouldn't have a large impact. But if you're tethering for multiple users or to a MacBook for large downloads, then I'd agree. From my standpoint, the free tethering would be a fairly infrequently used but welcomed option.

The no combined voice/data is a killer though.

Steve Jobs must have gave the Verizon guy the best advice during the Q&A session.

When all else fails, just tell 'em the users wanted the iPhone on Verizon, features be dammed.
Their hands were tied.
They had to release a year old phone now, when the next one is coming out in a few months.

What good is a hotspot if I can't get/make a call while myself or up to 5 others use data?

Good point.

I'd definitely switch if they'd enable FaceTime over 3G. Hotspot functionality is almost worth it… esp. if it includes unlimited data… (I know, jailbreak and you get both…)

Can't you just download Skype? It allows video chatting over 3G already, and it works really well.

Hmm, so what happens to the GPS Apps and receiving calls at the same time....

It depends which GPS app you're using. If it's one such as TomTom or CoPilot that has locally stored maps, it will continue to work in the background like it does on the current iPhone. However, if you're using Google Maps or something else that doesn't store data locally it will stop downloading the maps whilst you're on a call

AT&T has alot of wifi hotspots. Does verizon have many?

They didn't seem to mention that at the presentation, but it's an important consideration, seeing as how FaceTime (and downloading large apps) only works on WiFi. If Verizon doesn't have a large free WiFi network in place like AT&T, it makes their service a bit less attractive. For me, the inability to do simultaneous voice and data is a deal-breaker. I use that feature a lot.

Ahhh.... it's done... Now please free up the AT&T network for me! LOL!

Cool deal. Now let's see if others will follow soon????

Verizon has once again crippled a device.

Verizon has once again crippled a device.

Why would I pay more (given good coverage where I am at) for:

-No Concurrent Data/Voice (Verizon users....trust me...this is like power windows in a car...once you have it, you wonder how you lived without it)

-No Free Wifi

-No international coverage (this also results in less demand for selling your used iPhone)

-No Rollover Minutes

-Visual Voicemail will not update while you are on another call

Unless Verizon has monthly plans at half the price, forget it.

you also don't have unlimited data and the ability to use it a mobile hotspot

Some of us still have unlimited data plans. However I am on the fence about the mobile hotspot. With so many placing now having Wifi, jumping onto a wifi network is not that hard.
