"Pricing is $199 for 16 GB, $299 for 32 GB. Can also act as Wi-Fi hotspot for up to five devices."

If there is no additional charge for this I'm going to go on a tri-state murder spree.

It's a good thing i'm currently a Verizon customer with the reservations they are implementing. 12+ hour lines expected again in front of Apple Stores on 2-10-11.

Why stand in line? I always just order from Verizon online and get the new phone at home the next day.

from VZ webpage: (40 countries, etc)

No, it's not a world phone. VZ is just talking about using it in the other countries that support CDMA.

The only thing I'm jealous of is the included Mobile Hotspot. If I wasn't already an iPhone 4 owner, undoubtedly I would choose Verizon. That is a huge deal. .

Useful for sure. However, don't forget that if you take a phone call, the hotspot stops.

Data plans...

Can anyone tell me how the unlimited data plans compare between ATT and Verizon? Their sites are so confusing.

If your NOT Verizon

You have to wait until the 10th of February to order / purchase, Hmmm all those jumpers going back to verizon are going to have to wait , oh thats going to hurt

It's going to be interesting to see the supply and demand and most of all how AT&T's going to handle this with counter advertisements.

I'm still leaning towards waiting till June or when ever the newer version of the iPhone appears seeing how there changing the antenna position so far in leaked pictures.

"They will make those sorts of tradeoffs." (regarding no data while on call)

I don't think so. There has been multiple and countless times when I'm on a call and used data at the same time, check email, check a website, check my back account..etc.. People will still go for the Verizon iPhone but they won't like it, they'll trade that off to not being in AT&T's network maybe, but others who don't know and experience the inability to use data while on call will be upset and disappointed.

Edit: Personally, it's not worth the trade off, waiting till iPhone 5 and hoping that it'll be on LTE.

you also don't have unlimited data and the ability to use it a mobile hotspot

The tethering is going to work just like it does on the Pre Plus.

Unlimited wireless data, included tethering, seriously AT&T needs to step up on this, this is pretty huge.

Yeah too bad I won't be able to use it while talking on my iPhone though.

AT&T has alot of wifi hotspots. Does verizon have many?

My Verizon Palm Pre Plus has the $30 unlimited data package and tethering for up to five devices, but tethering is NOT unlimited.

The 'unlimited data' is for the phone itself.. downloading apps, web browsing, etc.

The data for tethering is capped at 5gb a month, and is no additional charge.

I suspect the Verizon iPhone will be the same.
I would take even that on at&t. Seriously.

11:25AM Question from Ars Technica: what happens when you're on a call and need to use data?

Dan: Same as a CDMA device.

...So... you don't.

And there's the deal breaker for me. Nothing more awesome than being on the phone with someone and being able to look up restaurants on Yelp or looking at Maps while talking to someone, at least here in NYC.

IMO...its just foolish for anyone to buy this phone now, since the iphone 5 will be out later this summer.
Unless AT&T gets it before Verizon...We'll just have to wait I guess

I think this suggests a new iphone before sept.:

I'm not sure what you mean. Verizon already has tens of millions of customers that make that trade-off now. I'm sure they'd be happy to have the iPhone.

When using the Mobile Hotspot will I be able to use other applications and services on the device at the same time?
Yes, you will be able to use other applications including: email, web browsing, text messaging and more while connecting up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices at once. When the Mobile Hotspot is connected, any data usage on either the device itself or through any Wi-Fi enabled devices will be subtracted from your 3G Mobile Hotspot monthly 5GB data allowance, rather than from your unlimited data allowance associated with your email and web for smartphone feature.* You can monitor your usage by logging into My Verizon.

Can I use my existing email and web for smartphone plan to access this functionality?
No, the 3G Mobile Hotspot functionality is an additional optional feature that will have a $40 incremental cost with a 5GB data allowance with $0.05MB overage rate.

They waived that charge on the Pre and threw it in as part of the plan, i'm assuming it'll be the same on the iPhone based on today's media event.

Someone just asked what happens when your on a call and need to use data

Answer :same as a CDMA device

Aka you can't

I wonder whether the Verizon data network will allow VoIP traffic so you can still take calls while tethered.

AT&T's tethering fees alone for the remainder of my "contract" are about the same as what my ETF with AT&T would be... I'll be curious to see how (or even if) AT&T responds

Define Refresh Cycle

Q: Will it be on a yearly refresh cycle?
A: Cook: No comment.

I'm not sure what the question exactly means...for example, if the answer was YES, does that mean the iPhone 5 would NOT be available until Feb 2012? Or if YES, does it mean that it would be on the refresh cycle of Apple therefore if the iPhone 5 was released in May 2011 Verizon would get it immediately. My hunch is the latter...and hence the reason for no comment...because Verizon doesn't want to go live in Feb while the public knows the iPhone 5 is just a few short month away and hence will hold off the switch/purchase. Much easier to screw people by selling them a 1 year old model for the same price as a just-a-few-months-away-new-and-improved model for the same (if not lower) price.

My bottom line on the iPhone 5 topic: If Verizon doesn't have it by Sep 2011, I may stay with ATT. My iPhone 3GS is already performing quite poorly and I would like the newer features of the iPhone 5...but I ain't waiting over a year from now to get it if ATT has it this summer...even though I hate ATT's service quality.

11:21AM Q: Will it be on a one year refresh cycle?

Tim: We don't comment on that.

He should have added to that "comment", why would we want to scare away our early adopters?

looking forward to the ads from at&t and verizon trying to get each others iPhone business.
