inb4, Facebook - Apple comments...

This is really why Siri isn’t as good as Alexa or Google. If Apple collected anything and everything it would even be better by now. Alexa records stuff and sends it to people it’s not even supposed to! I think privacy is more important than better AI.

I'm torn. I honestly would LIKE to get a Mac Mini but if they're never gonna update the damn things, I might as well get an iMac. I can't stand Windows 10's quirks for daily driving anymore, and I really would like to get into iOS development as well.

Bleh.

That's what they want you to do. If it were me, unless you're needing huge graphics-intensive stuff in OS X, I would just run it in a VM. Super easy to do.

For those complaining about Siri: It is a question of privacy. How the heck do you think these assistants improve? It’s only by collecting, analyzing and using data. Lots of data. Something that is always listening and can tap into your entire life will be more powerful than something that has its access limited.

Too bad for the developers if the potential customers run away in droves because of the miserable price/performance ratio of most Mac machines these days. And if you're satisfied to develop on stale hardware, well - you're in the minority, I guess.
I am not satisfied on developing on stale hardware. I have an iMac Pro actually. However, you are missing my point. Most of the complaints come from the lack of new hardware announcement and that happens very rarely at WWDC. Don't know where people got excited about rumors that lacked any sense.

The more the “No Hardware” rumor holds true; the better these new Thinkpad X1 Carbons are looking...

At least lenovo has some type of ecosystem to patch in to, docking stations, screens, peripherals, etc. hell, the X1 even comes with a 4G sim, no more dropped hotspot crap with my macbook/iphone.

Also, apple has purposely crippled the abilty to work on multiple (more than 2) screens.
The UI just isn’t made for extreme resolutions (dock is limited to far left on leftest screen or far right on rightest screen). This is stuff microsoft had figured out since windows 98.

Multi-monitoring is the reason I recommend Macs over Windows PCs! Have you worked with a laptop and multiple screens with a docking station and then just unplugged the cord? It instantly destroys your DPI settings and mixes giant symbols with tiny text no one can read. Logging out and back in fixes it. This is Windows. macOS: Everything works seamless, it even memorizes window positions in multiple different scenarios, e.g. at home and in the office. This is just awesome. Only downside is, macOS doesn't support MST, so basically you must hook up a second monitor directly on the device. But the overall multi-monitoring thing, in my experience, is much better than in Windows.

The problem is Siri is right in your face on everything tho. They obviously want you to use it. How are you going to charge $300 for a smart speaker when the AI inside of it functions like it's 2012 still?

Pick a version of macOS you would like to use for a few years like 10.12.6 and build a Hackintosh buddy. That way you can have all the performance you can afford on tap instead of waiting on Apple. I’m sure you can build one in a Mini form factor.

I believe that Hackintosh users rejoice when they see what a nice OS they are getting for their machines.

Thinking right now, I might even build one myself. Never did, but there is first time for everything.

Some good stuff in there. The amount of time and money they must have sunk into that Memoji stuff....
Mind-boggling.

But I'm sure kids will love it.

I guess, if you're like me and not a developer at all, the thing got a bit long towards the end.
Especially, when Tim made it clear almost in the first sentence that there was no hardware to be had today.

The gap between Siri and the competition grows by the month and at some point it's difficult to continue arguing with "privacy"...
I think even opening up privacy to get the info its already too late and would make mad the ones that have stayed on with beta siri for all this time. What they can do is just buy a lot of AI companies and use that public data for their Siri improvements. No privacy issues for the apple users and they can use more public obtained info. But, that means spending money which is something apple 2018 doesn't like to do except for meh tv shows or overpriced for what you get headphones.

For all those complainers, this is WWDC, meaning it's for developers... software stuff, OS stuff, etc. They were totally on point. For those here that are not developers, wait until your ANNOUNCEMENTS sessions.

I'm a developer and am actually happy to see Apple in the weeds after they trashed what they had by forcing stupid terms on their developers. Yes, it would be cool to work for Lego developing an ARKit app to sell Legos, but outside that there is no opportunity for independent creative developers to bring ideas to Apple platforms anymore.

Like you, I once drank the "Apple Juice", but that was back when I could make $$$$ developing for Apple platforms. Apple has been peeing in the Juice for quite a while now, so now they are paying the price for their own arrogance.

iOS 11.4 actually brought back some performance on my iPad mini 2, and I can’t wait for iOS 12 since Craig promised a focus on older devices’ performance.

You can make fun of Apple as much as you want, but supporting a product form 2013 (iPhone 5S) is a huge feat. This was released just before the original Nexus 5, and how many Android users even remember the Nexus 5?
Aren’t most of their newest products dated from 2013? I appreciated the keynote because they didn’t make those goofy jokes and were a bit more serious. Although I’ve more questions after this keynote than before. Is Siri improved? Is maps improved or are they acknowledging that google maps is the future (google maps on CarPlay).

Whatever... nice but not breathtaking

It’s not hard. Make a damn decision. It’s not going to change. What so hard about making a decision on which one you want?
I want Apple to move their damn a$$es and narrow the gap without sacrificing privacy. They brag about having the largest collection of lab test data for fitness tracking. Why can't they go ahead and do something similar to improve that dumb Siri girl? If they can have people do millions of fitness hours to collect data, they can also have people talking millions of sentences in dozens of languages and make Siri learn. Not exactly rocket science!

Which keynote did you actually watch? Did you really miss the extensive demo of ARKit?
I saw it. I want to do some real work, like scanning objects, not playing with legos. Imagine scanning fossils or archeological finds in place where they are found before removing them, using a device that fits in your pocket.

Apple keynotes have turned into the most ridiculous, pathetic, I am trying way toooo hard to fit in and be cool with the cool kids events I have ever seen.

I mean really, it looks like a clown show at times if not a snooze fest. What are 50 year olds doing get so amped by saying "My memoji sticks a tongue out, super fun and cool."

They are SO corny that its sad because they literally think they are funny or hip. They can't find a way to be cool and do it in a natural way because thats a personality trait which they lack severely.

So, instead of leveraging the 3D capabilities of the iphoneX to do actual 3D scanning, they have figured out how to make your poop emoji stick out it's tongue. What progress.
I said they were on point not that I agreed with everything they announced.

The only exciting products in the Apple portfolio currently are the AirPods and iPads. Apple - Please give us some exciting hardware news.
That is an odd combination of items to believe are the only interesting products. AirPods? Really?
