Nah, it says... Liverpool Fc packages Manchester united...therefor i conclude we will give you a good going over in your box and destroy you 5-0

OK, you turn your back for a few minutes and someone resurrects the best thread on the board...:D

Carra's out for 6 months, Baros is out till christmas...

It was a criminal tackle on Carra, much maligned though he is, he gets better every season, luckily, Henchoz is back in full training and will be back in the team soon.

There were a load of articles in the tabloids, apparently Le Boss went overboard when he found out about Carra's leg, called the bloke who tackled him a coward and a cheat:D I think Houlier has a lot more steel in him than most people think.

I'm glad to see Kewell, Owen and Diouf hitting their stride, and who knows, maybe this will be the chance for ol Donkey Heskey to show his stuff.

soccer sucks. American Football is a real man's sport...

haha, real men have to wear pads t cover almost all their body huh? ;) That kinda reminds me of a story my canadian friend was telling me about over in norrth america, football is considered a mans game (how?) but rugby...basically a more violent form of football (american) with NO pads is conidered a wuss's or a womans sport....errmmmm how you guys work that one out...i have no idea...not that I like the egg chase, and much befere soccer to that, but it's most definatly a hard guys sport.

Actually that canadian girl placed rugby as a winger (are they called backs in the egg chase, who knows?), she looked pretty hot and slim to look at, but some big guy pinched her ass, and she turned round, punched him in the face and he went flying on the floor...he was like twice the size of her or something...bet he's never lived that down with his mates...

I could never figure out how over-muscled steriod bags that can't run for more than a minute without getting a rest can be compared favourable to footballers who run continuosly for 90-odd minutes, or rugby players who clash padless for a constant 80...

Lets face it, Phil Tufnell is fitter than most US football players...;) ;) :D :D

I used to have a bumper sticker on my car back in high school that read...

"Men Play Football, Intelligent Men Play Soccer"

Please don't mind the ignorant American, we've got plenty of them over here. There are also PLENTY of Americans who love football. It's currently the second most played sport here. MLS is growing every year and our National Team is making great strides. Give us time, we'll be on par with the major European teams soon enough. I think that scares a lot of Europeans though.

It shouldn't even be called football.

Do you know why it's called football here in the US?

You can't blame the Americans for calling it Soccer, the English came up with that one.

can't say that i do to be honest mate, just doesn't seem like the most logical of names to be quite honest, i mean, how often is the ball actually kicked?

and as for the word soccer, i hate that word, who the hell came up with it anyways? (I mean more specifically than the English)

:)

some posh guy i seem to remember, it came about as a shorter version of Association Football I think. Mabe to make it stand out better from Rugby football but i'm not sure (another sport where it is hardly kicked).

I've dug a bit deeper and found this:

"Near the end of 1863, Charles Wreford-Brown, who later became a notable official of the Football Association, was asked by some friends at Oxford whether he cared to join them for a game of "rugger" (rugby). He is said to have refused, preferring instead to go for a game of "soccer" - a play on the word "association". The name caught on.

English public schoolboys love to nickname things, then as much as now. The tendency is to add "er" to the end of many words. Rugby [Union] Football became "rugby", and then "rugger". Association Football was better know as "assoccer" and naturally evolved into "soccer" which is much easier for a schoolboy to say... "

Yup, he's got it....

Rugby developed into American Football. If you look at both of them, they've very similiar. Every wonder why they call it a touchdown? The goal posts used to be in front of the end zone as well.

do you know why a try is called a try (ruggers touchdown)? Cause when the guy that invented rugby by picking the ball up and running with it into the net in a association football match, asked the ref...'was that a goal', he said' no, but it was a jolly good try"

Leeds?......ahem.....who are they? Oh right the bargin bin we picked Harry Kewell out of in the summer sales... ;) They did a nice job in getting him ready for us anyway haha.

Seriously, no matter how bad leeds are turning, We've traditionally over the last few years done really bad against the smaller teams such as LC FC...but i think the last two fixtures, non other than Emile Ivanhoe Heskey scored in 1-0 wins. More of the same please Emile. I'll put a guess on 2-0, Heskey and Smicer...but I know I'll be wrong. If Le Tellec plays then i wouldnt bet against him scoring too.

I'm up for the game, I was at college in Leicester and still have many friends there, I'm visiting a few and we're off to the game:D

I've got 2-0, Kewell first and then Owen, Heskey'll play and get in all kinds of bother:D

It's gonna be a good one.

Oh yeah....we beat leceister (spelt right?...it is impossible to spell). Not a classic but we have often struggled against teams that sit back and defend, so thats progress....and whats this Emile scores and owen has scored 3 pens  Would have been nice to keep the clean sheet but I'd have taken 2-1 at the start of play. Lets go and tonk Charlton and that slovenian team i have no chance of spelling right. Only real negative point was that the reports say Anfield was ghostly quiet.

I love watching rugby as well as American football. But you don't see rugby players standing in the pocket getting blasted by linesmen or linebackers at full speed. True rugby is so much more of a contact sport than American football, and rugby players are in tip-top shape overall compared to American football players overall.

Wait till you see Wilkinson and Greenwood taking it out on the three-quater line in the world cup later this year, Wilkinson hits harder than anyone bar Jason Leonard:D

Anfield was as quiet as I've heard it, but it was still noisy, the fans were behind the team alright.

Not a great victory, but a good one, Heskey played well, and took the chance, Kewell is a gem.

Bring on Charlton, we are getting better.

What does everyone think of the constant rumoUrs about Rosicky being linked to us? I think he is the one that looked a class act when we played them in the champions leauge and he was by and far their best player..hiting the crosbar i seem to remember too, unless I'm mixing him up with another ofg their players. If its him, I have wanted him to sign since then as he looked amazing. Where he'd play though now kewell is here, diouf is on fire ans smicer is playing well, i have no idea. Plus it may lessen the chances of Le Tellec to get in. I gues it would be bye bye murphy 9unless he wanted to be a real bit part player) id he does arive in the winter.

Although i think Ged will pull out all the stops to get Owen to sign a new contract, who thinks it seems more and more likely we are hunting out Cisse as a replacement for him...what with no noises from owen about signing and him complaining first about us not attacking enough, and the nafter the blackburn win, about us not creating enough chances at home. Again, if Owen stays and Cisse comes, with Baros hopefully not being effected by the injury and being back around the transfer window, we will have too many forwards. Its maybe one from heskey or owen that could leave.

I spoke too soon, a scrappy performance saw the Reds go down 3-2 to a hatrick from Charlton's Lisbie.

Smicer scored in the first half from an excellent Kewell pass, and Owen from the spot in the second half, although I thought it was a bit harsh.

The defence went AWOL too easily and Dudek had a bit of a nightmare really, he was definately to blame for the second, spilling a take from corner directly into Liskies path.

We really need to put teams like Charlton away if we stand any chance of challenging for the Championship or even Europe next season.:(

what a poor performance, we had some good spells but stevie g wasn't on top form and sami had a 'mare. diouf and 'arry were good, again, emile had some good close control (woah) and smicer played rather well.

not all gloom n doom, but not what we need.

Smicer is actually putting a few good performances together, he's played well both times I've seen them and I think he might be in a better formation with Kewell running the lines the way he does.

We really miss Hamann in front of the back four, and as you say, we're always struggling when Stevie has a bad un.
