The scum will always be scum. I hope the police can restore peace as soon as possible. Thing is, this will happen again if the government don't change it's ways in terms of social politics. Some of the areas with people most prone to riot are nearing the status of lost causes. The people there have lived outside of the community and the British society for to long a time.

Because they are a bunch of bored, mindless kids who think that causing damage is fun. It has very little basis in social depravity, racism or all the other nonsense being spouted. It is a physical manifestation of Anonymous or Lolsec and organised in the same way.

Interesting.

This is all making the UK look really really bad.
We have nothing to riot about tbh, most of the rioters are just looting and joining in for fun.
When asked why they're rioting they say they aren't getting enough back from the government.
The UK is one of the most mundane and fair countries in the world and definately one of the best places to be poor, this is pathetic.

Making the UK look bad? Last I looked, NI and Scotland weren't related to London and some city which has been overruled by imigrants.

Its not making the UK look bad. Its making the southerners look bad. Which is fine by me, as most northerners, including myself, despise them more than those annoying american nerds on Xbox Live who think console gamers > all (you know what I mean).

In honesty I'm surprised its come to violence. I expected the southern fairies to be throwing teacakes and muffins at the police.

...and what do you think would happen if they took away Guinness, potato's, heroin and whisky?? Exactly.

I rest my case.

Everything about your post was great except for "definately." Most people say you shouldn't correct people on these mistakes, as if it's like pointing out a retarded person's disability -- a taboo. Well, I think you can help it. You could make the world a tiny bit better by learning not to make that mistake.

Yes, that is interesting. I would be surprised if we would have a very broad socio-economic representation among the rioters. I think the general experience is that poor people riot and if the government can't find a way to make them part of the community (handing out more free money is, by the way, not making people any less poor or more a part of the community), they will do it again.

It saddens me to see what is happening to our glorious City
Mindless ignorant youths who are not protesting against anything except profiting from looting and causing destruction to hard working shop owners.

Cars, building, and homes being set on fire.
These youths are crippling their own community The police are out numbered afraid to do anything incase this causes more riots.

We need the Police to step up their game now not later.
Get the City back from these youths using whatever means.

Order needs to be RESTORED

The Apple Store must be protected at all costs..

DO YOU UNDERSTAND !!!!!!!

"Sir, a mob of 30 youths are approaching the Apple Store"

"That's it, you're authorized to use live ammo.

Prepare the drones. This is not a demo. This is real."

Yup, it's definitely a case of social depravity. Our two tier society will never change.

What!!?? I live in London I took a flight out from Heathrow to Belize three days ago....all seemed peaceful when I left!

Im reading the news now and I still don't have a clue what we're meant to be rioting about!

Anyway.... back to my Pina Colada....

I thought I was reading a post by our prime minister for a second

If I was PM, they'd have 1 hour to disperse, or I'd call in the Army to bolster ranks, and would use aggressive force to quell these idiots. We are far too soft in this country. We let the bad guy win, were in fact they need a stiff kicking. And those bleeding heart human rights fools can kiss my shiny metal ass. this country is struggling to keep above water financially, and they add to our problems. Kick them good and hard I say. treat them with the same disrespect as they treat innocent people.

Quickest way to stop a riot - send in the water cannons/baton rounds/army. Unfortunately it's also the quickest way to guarantee decades of ongoing future violent social unrest. Northern Ireland anyone?

It's easy to be smart when you don't have to take any responsibility for the consequences. Thankfully those planning the response to the present riots have a bit more insight. Yes, the riots are probably going to be with us for a few more days. And that is tragic in itself, the impact it will have on so many people's lives and livelihoods. But when it's burned out, we need to be sure that we're not left with a markedly worse social climate than we had before. It sounds uncaring to say, but society's a bit like a geyser - pressure builds up from time to time and needs to vent, but as long as it's allowed to vent naturally it then goes back to normal for a while. However, if you try to stop or suppress the venting, the pressure just builds and builds until it explodes with catastrophic results. Riots every 10-20 years or so are society venting - suppress them with overwhelming force and the eventual explosion of social pressure will be on the kind of scale that can destroy countries and cultures.

I'm not saying that we should just let the rioters get on with it - just that the response needs to be robust but also measured at the same time.

^^^ Is that "Outraged in Tunbridge Wells" writing? ^^^

I had no idea Peckham and Croydon was within the Square Mile…

Mind you, looting in the City would be nothing new given that the biggest looters of all are found there.

Two tier society? In Britain? More like at least three.

Such a shame to see that "we're in it together" Dave had to cut his holiday short, same for poor old Boris Johnson too.

The British people (myself included) should be ashamed.

Perhaps the big society can rebuild the damage caused by the thugs?

One of the most juvenile and pathetic comments I've ever had the displeasure of reading.

Apart from there was rioting in Birmingham and Manchester too.

You might be bitter and angry enough to hate everyone from the South which is a shame because some of us are alright, but I watched people's livelihoods burn last night and no one deserves that.

Go back to your xbox, northern boy. Perhaps your mummy will bring you some bread and dripping if you're good.

Why would I own an Xbox? They are for peasants.

ProTip: Stereotyping needs to be understandable in order for it to be insulting.

Typical Elitist Response

London Riots, Global Recession, Mass Alienation of working people and the Rise of Neo Fascism across Europe and America, what do the Elitist do...Protect the Apple Store!

OMG.. This should be on the BBC & Sky News. That video footage is just utterly shocking and makes one ashamed of the human race.. Just horrendous.

Its worth noting that the majority of them aren't exactly english/white, which makes me question the motives for the riots even more.
