I said the Sony F's fan is always on. This is true, it has a quiet groan noise to it (and is almost never spinning at a constant rate).

It also has a squeaky spacebar (initially), and the viewing angle on the LCD is rather tight (vertically), but it has an awesome screen regardless.

What you get for the $$ varies - that Sager is barely better than my F series and in some ways, worse. I only paid $1500 (and $150 of that was tax) for this machine dude.

I'm not complaining, but there's no way in hell I'd pay $2000 for a laptop I couldn't try out in person first. Just saying!

Ummm if you paid $1500..... 1350 before tax... I'd like to see what you got...... I can almost guarantee it wouldn't touch the Sager's specs... link me your specs please.... so I can prove you wrong... because on the sony site, I got a worse computer for like 1800... dunno what sony you are getting... but if there really is a sony for 1500 that is as good as that segar I'd like to see it.... Also... dude people buy all tons of computers online... you think buying a 3000 computer from apple is any different from buying a 2000 computer from Sager?

I talked to my supervisor (one of the heads of IT that I work for) about sony and he said when people bring in sonys they have the worst problems.... I'm sure the sony is great, I was thinking about getting it... but it's not as good as the Sager... and the price reflects it... "You get what you pay for".... EXCEPT an overpriced MAC

I'm off to bed.... Sager is the greatest... These forums are the best... They took my mind off bad apple and put it on something good for the price...

NIGHT ALL SEE YOU TOMORROW

too bad to customize that to the equal stats of the sager it comes out to around 2100... You gotta remember Dell charges tax too...

i don't understand why you're asking this question here. These are forums for powerbook/mbp discussion. You want a lot of
PC notebook opinions, check out something like:

because 1. This is looking for alternatives to a mac and 2. Mac ppl are smart

Glad some people can open up a little bit outside of their comfort zone!

For the record though, Sager is California-based. So if you call them, it's in the US.

I know it's risky buying something without seeing it in person, but that is why there are 100+ page owner forum threads online where you can read true stories and thoughts. I believe there is even a return policy.

From a gaming laptop perspective, try to find another laptop with a gfx card close to that of Sager's.

Yep, not even alienware has a gfx card equal to sagers... I agree and I'm pretty sure I'm getting it.

Oh also about the Dell, the 720qm to the 820qm is a huge performance boost, and on the Dell it's about 350 more... Also the Dell doesn't ship until April.....bleh gross...

Sager is the shiz

Not to mention sager isn't bulky and 10 lbs

you registered here 4 days ago to discuss PC notebooks?

I've been watching the arrandale forums for like a month... Just never needed to comment until a few days ago, now I'm addicted...

You need to get a sager gfiz...

I'll prob get a Lenovo x201, it seems like an idle replacement, with a 8-10 hr battery life and touch screen capabilities :D...

I've never really seen the point of having the latest and greatest processors: 6 months later there's something even faster and the old one has halved in price. Super-fast processors are only necessary for seriously processor intensive apps like FCP or for getting that 'ultimate' games experience (at least for a few weeks before the new 'must-have' bit of hardware is released) in which case people tend to go to a PC rather than a mac anyway.

I fully expect this core 2 duo to be doing okay and be fully up to date with software 2 years from now. Our G5 tower has only just given up the ghost and we bought that in 2004.

You're in a Mac forum talking about sager laptops? Why are you here?

Seems like most of the folks jumping ship from the Arrandale wait don't really want or need any portability or battery life.

You can crank the CPU and GPU to hell and back and get a 10-lb laptop with 4 fans and 2 hours of battery life, but there's more to a good portable than that.

Really, for most of you folks, you'd get A LOT more for your money buying a desktop, since it's hard to believe that anyone who wants an 820QM and an ATI 5800 series GPU cares at all about portability.

To each his own, I guess. There is obviously a market for these higher end laptops, otherwise we wouldn't see them with the latest parts. Not everybody wants a desktop and prefer the ability to move about.

The Sager is a 15.6" sitting at 7.38lbs. I think my dad's ASUS is just as big LOL.

Actually, it is but people love it!: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+...1218164036446&skuId=9736955&st=ASUS&cp=1&lp=3

Technically speaking, you're correct, at least as far as I'm concerned. However, I just can't go back to desktops ever since I've replaced mine with a Powerbook G4 all those years ago. They're gigantic, bulky, noisy, power-hungry and inflexible. Once or twice a semester, I need to take my MBP to university - can't do that with a desktop. Several times a week, I watch a movie in the evening - can't take my desktop to bed or on the couch. Sometimes I might have to show someone something on my MBP - couldn't take my iMac or Mac Pro to them for that. So, I don't really care about battery life (anything above 2 hours is fine for me), but portability is a killer feature to me, so much so that I can't imagine using a desktop for anything except gaming anymore.

Meh...I want/need a laptop for some cases... I also travel back and forth from a university and home and stuff and can't take my desktop home when I go there...

As far as sager, I do love it, but if I can't get an equally good computer for 1200ish that would be amazing... I mean not equal because it wouldn't be, but definitely good enough for what I'm doing...

I like the xps but the ship time is April... Also I hear that the 820 vs 720 is much better, but I don't know by how much and I don't know if it's worth the price increase of like $400...

I mean new hardware is always coming out...I don't really wanna blow 2000 on a sager and regret spending that much on a computer that will last a few years to new games...(sometimes I regret paying 3000 for my early 2008 mbp)

I'm sure I can find a computer for around 1200-1400 that runs almost as well as the sager for what I'm doing... Mostly gaming but nothing high end like crysis... Running mostly wow and those types of games... And my watch will run wow :p

Looks really good for the price... and it has USB 3.0 and blue-ray.... The only problem is the RAM speed is 1066, the max resolution is 1600x900 on a 17 inch... and the battery is 6 cell....

Looks good, cept again the 1066 mhz ram and the 6 cell battery...

Is looking really good and it's gfx card is amazing... apparently, the 1066 vs 1333 ram I read is not a big difference in the real word... also some people say the 1066 is faster due to latency issues on the 1333....

Let me try to figure this out.

Hi folks, I've been following this forum for awhile, but never commented before this. I'm in the market for a new laptop. I'm heavily leaning towards a windows-based PC. So, what better place to come for advice, than a Mac forum. Hell, after a few posts, some of you have even convinced me to buy a sager laptop. Granted, I don't know you from Adam, but I'm going to run with your great advice, because you are such smart Mac users. One more point, I've found another forum where they give good advice on these laptops, however, I just want to hangout here and get advice on windows-based PCs from you very smart Mac users.

Did I miss something?

I gotta say, the Sager looks gaudy. I'm sure it performs great, but it looks cheap to me.

You can custom build a Clevo W860CU barebones model and add whatever parts you want. You can even ship it without a hard drive or memory if you can get them cheaper. And since this is not from Sager, but from the source, there are no Sager logos.

I've been looking at the Vaio CW...the graphics card is nothing special, but at least it's dedicated, and it has Arrandale, HDMI out, etc. It's probably about on par, in terms of specs, with what the 13" MBP should be, albeit without the battery and aluminum of the MBP.

it will come out soon.. apple is not late or outdated yet.. everyone here needs to chill out and get a life. If you're considering an alternative to mac.. then obviously you don't need anything a mbp offers.. so stop complaining. I was pissed off about it myself a while ago but realized it's a waste of time.

I can't understand people who wants to buy a laptop mostly for gaming and choosing mac by just to seem cool. Who the heck would like to pay at least 500$ more for a mac if he would mostly use it for gaming?

Tell that to the people that made 5 500-ish page threads and can't just buy a computer and move on with their lives lol.

Edit: And I was just checking - the F series is fatter than a MacBook Pro, sure but it is a 16" laptop - it weighs 0.3lbs more than a 17" MacBook Pro, yet still has the same amount of power as an i7 iMac (and the battery life isn't really all that far off base from a 17" MBP anyway).

So what were you saying again? I think you're jealous.
