Sure, I'll get in trouble with the mods over this but imagine a couple of some other guys little sperm soldiers getting inside your woman. Just a couple, no big deal, right? Yeah, it doesn't seem so good now does it? Those scratches mean something to him just like a couple of some other guys sperm inside of your woman would matter to you. I've never had glass OR diamonds let alone anything in my pocket with my iPhone and it has one scratch on it... so I understand that you genius bar workers have some "standards" and guidelines to follow but if I see one of you manhandling my possessions with disregard, you guys are gonna pay. I made the genius bar workers bring out 3 replacements, one after the other that had weak vibrate motors, scratches across the back of the Apple logo, etc... they got served the humble pie and made sure that I was satisfied but only after I ripped them mentally. You seriously gotta play smarter than these guys and have a game plan and stick to it when you go in there. And DON'T hesitate to get a manager involved if genius bar workers get lippy with you. They never seem to understand where the customer is coming from. Best wishes and luck with your phone. I say take it back and get it replaced.

That was...uh...creative.

Wow I really need to go to bed. Especially after that.

And you really think the iPhone in that box got scratched or damaged by that?? Man, that's just a stupid comment.

I just said that because things do happen in the warehouse, Especially in UPS/FedEx warehouses (kicked/dropped/lost/ran over/stolen boxes) Don't get upset cause I pointed out your excessive pointless thread making earlier.

Wow that sucks. My guy had mad respect for my warez at the Apple Store. All he did was open the box and unpeal the bottom of the included protector to plug in the USB cord.

You should definitely demand a replacement.

I don't understand why they even opened the box at the Apple store. Where I bought mine, they just scanned the bar code and handed it to me after I paid for it. Box only got opened when I got home.

Yeah but until then, I'd like to keep it nice. Plus it will hold more value if it's mint.

Now, maybe I'm obsessing, but should I have to live with scratches I didn't cause myself? If I had scratched it I wouldn't care.

Am I overreacting? Here's a pic:

I think you might be over reacting about the end result - it's not too bad. But you're right to be angry over the service.

We pay a premium for these products and I'm sure Apple would not be happy if a supplier sent them scratched up components and they were forced to use them and try and shift the stuff damaged!

I would have said something as it's unacceptable. Here generally activation was done at home so units were sold sealed.

The guy at my Apple Store was brilliant. He ever so gently peeled off whatever plastic he needed to, was careful not to touch the phone and replaced the plastic carefully at the end. I thought, yep, he understands :D And I'm not even that bothered about scratches ;)

If Apple will not accept your accidental damage in their warranty, then you should not accept an employee not treating your things with respect.

Thats really bad.

At least when I had my 3G swapped because of cracks and light leaks (>>) the Genius I dealt with left the plastic screen protector on my replacement while they did what they had to.

Damn I even left that screen protector on for the trip home and now I always place my phone on a soft surface when at home. I never put it on a table or anything harsh.

When I go to bed I use the cleaning cloth as a little bed for it, so it doesn't touch the table. My phone is still pristine, and I've had the replacement for around 12 weeks now. I carry it in my pocket on its own, doesn't share with coins or keys and it is pristine. Even the :apple: on the back is pristine.

Goes to show you can care for things without a fugly case.

@ Nikos, its not over reacting or the damage caused in my opinion, its the principle, I wonder if they would want there phone treating like that.

Its JUST a phone.. don't be all OCD over it.. God forbid you drive a Royce and a small rock hits anywhere under your car..

Seriously USE THE PHONE dont baby it I found the more I babied the phone the less I actually enjoyed it (trying desperately to keep it in its case, keep it clean, not a smudg....aaaaaaarg!)

I want my iPhone to stay mint too.

It's wrapped in lint-free cloth, in a fireproof safe, in a sealed room with a temperature and humidity controlled environment.

I just couldn't bear to think that it could get scratched :D

Urgh, I'd be really p*ssed off too if I were you. I don't spend all that money on a mobile phone for it to get all scratched up by some inconsiderate person!

There's some serious Anal Retentive people in the thread. You do not ever see the back casing! Buy a Gel Skin for the back or a sticker. Plastic chrome will scratch no matter what.

I'm sorry she abused your iPhone though.

I assume that most you are twelve and under because most don't know how to spell, don't the difference between "you're" and "your"...

I think you accidentally your sentence... twice.

If you are going to be a stickler for spelling and grammar then at least get your own message right.

Holy f**ing Jesus.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. A couple of scratches on the back of a phone?

You should be on your knees thanking this is your biggest problem

Freaking OCD drama :rolleyes::rolleyes:

That sux getting scratches put there by someone else. Ya, it's minor, but it is annoying.

When I bought my phone Friday, the girl that was going to activate it actually asked me if I wanted to, "do the honors?". In other words, she asked if I wanted to open the box and hook it up for activation. I told her, "Hell no!". She asked me why, and I told her because if it gets dropped during activation, you're guess who's fault it is. She said, "Mine?", and I just told her...yep!

I understand why your angry but it's going to get little scratches on it regardless of how you handle it or which case you use for it

Cheers.

Wrong, actually. When I sold my 3G two days ago it had not a single scratch or mark on it because I look after my things. I'm not obesessive, I just make sure it's in my Sena slip case when it's in a pocket or bag and when I'm using it I'm just mindful of what sort of surface I'm putting it on.

The result? A great looking phone which holds its second-hand value when I come to sell it to finance the next model.

I've got a screen guard and griffin i-clear case which I love as it's got a raised bevel and if you drop face down no risk of glass breakage. It comes off quickly for use in the house.

I've used a small bit of the original clear front plastic on the logo and you can't see it's there as it smoothed down lovely.

I do this through experience with all my other gadgets I've loved and passed on or sold.

If you were buying something off ebay what would you bid on? That's what I think about things.

It doesn't really matter that it's "just a phone". It's the fact that the employees don't need to be rough with the phone, it doesn't take much to protect the phone (or just be gentle with it, it does cost a lot of money).

LOL.

It is so funny you posted this. I was stressing out that they were going to activate it in store because of this same reason. I know that they dont give a crap when they activate them, and they will just put it on the counter with no case on or anything and really not care.

Needless to say, I was glad when they told me they did not have to open it up in store :D

Last year when we had to do 3G activations in the store I voiced my concern with a touch of embarrassment. To my joy the guy behind the counter said that "Apple warned us that many customers would be concerned like you are and suggested we let the customer handle the product." So from that point onward I did all the "driving" with the phone itself, poking sim card removal pins, plugging in the cable, holding the phone, removing plastic, etc.

I thought it was amusing that supposedly Apple actually warned of people like... "us."

The key jangling thing is pretty bad, but putting your phone on a table.. do you seriously have a problem with that? :D

If the table has granules of sand or similar on it, it's just as bad if not worse than the keys.

That said, I need this dude's problems. Boy I wish my life was so extremely perfect that a minor scratch on a phone was worth complaining to the internet about.

I agree.. it's a phone, not an antique. A little scratch on the surface of the phone is not going to affect the functionality in any way.

My 2G iPhone had scratches all over it, in fact some of the aluminium was even chipped off in parts, yet I didn't even notice it until I sold it and had to describe the condition.

First off, when I activate a phone I am very careful with it.

Secondly, if a twelve year old like most of the posters in this thread said something to be about setting a newly activated phone down on the counter, I would laugh in his or her face.

I assume that most you are twelve and under because most don't know how to spell, don't the difference between "you're" and "your", or think that the word "prepared" is actually spelled "pre paired." Apparently in that last example the user came to the with his bluetooth device already paired to his new iPhone.

Considering that, like one poster mentioned, these phone will be outdated in a year, if I owned one I would be careful with it but wouldn't cry if it got "two hairline cracks" across the Apple symbol. It seems that most folks here don't understand that phones are made to be used, and often even get -gasp- outdated and replaced. If knowledge is power (which it is), most of the posters in this thread are quite powerless. Don't worry though, like your credit score, your power will grow with age as long as you are responsible.

Sorry, I know that I'm not contributing to this thread, it was just too much to pass up.

Typos and dropped words in a post bashing spelling and grammar.

I ♥ IRONY!

I too would be highly upset if this had happened to me. My AT&T rep was very understanding when I asked her if I could put my phone into my Otterbox before she even activated it.
