The key is not to wait on a trip until you almost out of juice before charging. If you go on the Tesla website they have a trip planner where you can play around and select a Tesla model, and a trip, and it will show you chargers along the way and how long the charging time would be. Normally it's a pretty quick stop. There are other apps you can get for you phone like ABRP (A Better Route Planner), that you can enter any make EV and plan out a trip.Thanks. I wasn’t sure how the charging situation was. I could rent a car when I go on longer trips and use the EV around town. I wouldn’t want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere because I couldn’t find a charger. I’ll probably end up going with a Tesla just because it seems like the easy way to do this.
I traded my Bolt, and sold my BMW Z4 to buy a Model 3 for a few reasons, one was the Supercharger network being in places that made sense for a trip and the fast charging times, another was I liked what Musk was doing with Twitter and felt like buying a Tesla was some way of supporting the effort.
So far I love the Tesla, it handles as well as the Z4 and is faster! Charging at home is a fraction of the cost of buying gas. Charging at a Tesla Supercharge is a little less expensive than buying gas, but you should be doing the majority of your charging at home. There are free level 2 chargers scattered around, often at WholeFoods or other shopping places, I wouldn't count on these as they are often being used, or the spot taken by some jerk in an internal combustion engine vehicle.
