Thanks. I wasn’t sure how the charging situation was. I could rent a car when I go on longer trips and use the EV around town. I wouldn’t want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere because I couldn’t find a charger. I’ll probably end up going with a Tesla just because it seems like the easy way to do this.
The key is not to wait on a trip until you almost out of juice before charging. If you go on the Tesla website they have a trip planner where you can play around and select a Tesla model, and a trip, and it will show you chargers along the way and how long the charging time would be. Normally it's a pretty quick stop. There are other apps you can get for you phone like ABRP (A Better Route Planner), that you can enter any make EV and plan out a trip.

I traded my Bolt, and sold my BMW Z4 to buy a Model 3 for a few reasons, one was the Supercharger network being in places that made sense for a trip and the fast charging times, another was I liked what Musk was doing with Twitter and felt like buying a Tesla was some way of supporting the effort.

So far I love the Tesla, it handles as well as the Z4 and is faster! Charging at home is a fraction of the cost of buying gas. Charging at a Tesla Supercharge is a little less expensive than buying gas, but you should be doing the majority of your charging at home. There are free level 2 chargers scattered around, often at WholeFoods or other shopping places, I wouldn't count on these as they are often being used, or the spot taken by some jerk in an internal combustion engine vehicle.

Owning a Tesla stuck in Repair Centre waiting for parts edging close to 4 months - I'm in the market for alternatives... Both model S and X seem to have issues with spare parts at the moment. (Not electronics related - and not latest generation "Plaid" versions either)

And the cheap rental we have to replace the Tesla have CarPlay.

Next car will:
1. Not be a Tesla
2. Have CarPlay.

I’m so torn on electric cars, once you’ve heard a Lamborghini V12 with aftermarket exhaust echoing off of buildings as it roars down Sunset Blvd, cars that all sound like my vacuum just don’t do it for me, no matter how fast they can accelerate.

We never hear from Lucid Air owners here because they get locked in their cars and die a slow cooked death, LOL.

So if I were to drive from Maryland to Boston, how often, and where would I swap out the battery?
nio currently has no battery swap stations in NA. I am not sure if nio does battery swaps for owned batteries (they mainly push batteries as a service basically forcing you to lease the battery separate from the car).
Safe car... like Tesla? 🤣
Guy attempted to drive off a cliff in one and the whole family survived, which is pretty cool. Of course there are instances of fatalities as well but you gotta admit these folks probably shouldn't have survived this.

I test drove a friends Lucid - better built than Tesla for sure but the software is really bad in comparison. It’s much more like a traditional car which I personally don’t like.

I was actually quite shocked when I saw the software. However what’s greart is that the windows don’t squeak like my teslas.

The range is pretty incredible though. They have some real magic in their drivetrain, that is for sure.

i wouldn't know, since they are only available in europe and asia right now. they said they have plans to expand into north america, but the current political atmosphere isn't looking too good.

The option would be good for those who want it, but I think Tesla’s UI is as good or better. Except the messages app, which is awful.
Until Tesla offers their own smartphone and gains a dominant position in the market, the quality of their car UI is irrelevant. People have their entire lives on their smartphones and offering only rudimentary connections to it in a modern vehicle is draconian.

No doubt. And I like to see the competition.

If one is in the market for a 100k car and is not a tech nerd, Lucid might be the way to go. However I bought my Model 3 for 35k after incentives which is just incredible value for the money.

For me this is the real achievement. Making an affordable electric car at scale that has almost no limitations compared to an ICE.

I struggle to see the point in this. Both of my previous cars had Apple CarPlay and I used it a lot because the UI on them sucked.

However, with a Tesla, there is nothing missing. Music integration is perfect. Calling and voice commands work well.
My calendar is synced so I can navigate easily.

I can even use the YouTube app on my iPhone and send the video directly to the Tesla screen.

What do you feel is missing?

Integration, ease of use, audio quality/switching between app sources, and most of all, choice. Can't use Apple Maps (no share ETA, etc), Waze, Audible, Overcast, etc..
