Meanwhile, in the real world, morons who buy tech knowing that they don't have the features they want perpetuate the problem.

Again, people buy the iPhone for what it can do, which is a helluva lot more than it cannot.

Oh, and you waived your right to dub me a "turd" after your outlandishly fanboy-esque response. Maybe if you used an ounce of logic, rather than looking for an opener for an insult, I'd take you seriously.

How was my response "fanboy-esque"? I was simply stating that the response you posted was completely meaningless and contributed nothing to the thread. If that makes me a fanboy then I'll go ahead and put that down in my signature.

Thanks for your input. Never heard that one before.

And I never saw a thread about the lack of MMS on macrumors before.

Next time, search and _think_ before starting a thread about a subject that has been talked about over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again..

Well congratulations on raising your post count. I can't think of any other reason you'd post on such a pointless thread.

There are plenty of phones out there than can do a lot of what the iPhone does and more, as well as send MMS. I'd wager they're cheaper on a subsidised contract too.

Because you were devoutly defending an argument that has been around since the dawn of iPhone with no real argument to speak of. Also, buying a phone because they "enjoy the aesthetics"? That's screaming fashion over function to me, I'm sure I don't need to explain that point further.

EDIT: as a side note, what exactly have YOU contributed to this thread, aside from flaming other posters, of course. Add 'pious' to your list of irritable qualities.

You're gonna have to point out to me where I defend the iPhone not having MMS. If I'm not mistaken (which I'm pretty sure I'm not since it's me we're speaking of), I think it's ridiculous that the iPhone is lacking these features.

And believe it or not, some people do buy the phone for how it looks. A lot of them, in fact, before doing any research. I know it's hard to comprehend. But pointing that out to me as a mistake is moot, since I don't fall into that category.

Edit: Read every other post of mine NOT targeted at you. I've contributed my opinion. Pretty sure that's what this forum is for.

Having to do with the SMS/email argument..

I don't know about anyone else but the format of the SMS app is much more conversation-friendly than the complete jargon of an email with the superfluous data about recipients and what not. It's more like an IM, which makes it easier to continue a conversation.

I also dont understand why a company like AT&T would push for the adoption of email over SMS. They make money off of text plans and would be losing a way to generate revenue.

I think this is very true.. I love my iphone and everything I can do with it.. There are a lot of phone out there that do many things.. To this day I still can't think of why they don't have MMS on the Iphone. I'm sure if they did customer's would possibly up there text plan being that they will be sending a lot of pics... As for the e-mail approach, I wouldn't like it that way because it can become a hassle sometimes, trying to get your e-mail.. Half the time I try to get mine my phone tells me it cannot log into the server.. On the other phone's I've had in the past I never had any problems with MMS.. They always came through..

But only time will to see if Apple and AT&T will come out with MMS for the Iphone. All I think it needs is a firmware update.. IMO

Two VERY good points. I agree 100%.

Although you can collapse the recipients to one line on mail.app, it is still unecessary data because you (should) already know who it's from and who it's addressed to.

I can't say for sure because of a lack of concrete data, but I don't think AT&T is a part of this problem. This is Apple's crowning achievement of annoyingicity (I know it's not a word). I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they're waiting for Apple to develop the application to do this.

Then I guess we agree to disagree. Not worth the scrap after 3 posts tbh ;)

Not really. I also don't agree with throwing out insults and putting words in people's mouths. But I'll let bygones be bygones. Although I can't stand the topic, this thread has become quite interesting...

Firstly, comparing SMS to MMS is flawed IMHO.

They are designed for different things. An SMS is historically designed to be a brief (160 character) message. Its with upgrades to phones and carrier networks that you can now write a small essay in a SMS that it seems that email would be better.

An MMS is obvioulsy designed to send a picture, video or sound bite/clip. I do honestly think that MMS isn't a big deal. I haven't used it in a few years, and I would prefer to have it emailed to me as then I could open, view/listen on a computer and save it, manuplate it easily and then forward where possible. And in contracdiction to a previous post, you can send an MMS to an email address in the UK, which last time I checked was in Europe.

To the firefighter who posted earlier, you commented that an MMS feature would be useful to send accident pictures to a trauma center, surely sending an email to a distribution list would be better?

Of course all this is my opinion

Text messaging is very popular and won't die out. It is more instant than email in a way in that you don't need to log on or go through other email boxes and messages and it takes the place of phone calls quite well and the iphone's way of having a chat-like sms is quite awesomeness.

yes, and the same can be said for MMS. it's very popular among non-iphone users and it is just as instant (if not more) than email the picture. plus, you don't need to log into a website if you have MMS on your phone....you just click on the message and the pic pops up (along with any text message they attached with it).

HOW COOL would it be if apple implemented MMS with SMS and the chat log?? You could be having a conversations, then they send a pic of the "event" (or whatever)....all the while the pic gets mixed into your ichat-like SMS conversation. very cool if apple did this.... :D

This is exactly how I pictured them integrating MMS. Someone did a mock-up a while ago of this and it looked awesome.

yes! ATT makes money off the SMS plans......so why not support the MMS plans? they could make even more money!

there has to be a reason why apple/att don't have MMS on the iphone. it doesn't really make sense because the application IS USED by people all over the world on a daily basis.....and ATT makes extra money off it.

I always wondered why AT&T wasn't pushing for it. As ridiculous as it would be, I would pay an extra couple bucks a month for the service.

That would totally be awesome.. I really hope it happens.. But we are talking about apple, you would think that it would have been taken care of already, along with copy paste, and there so called push service.

why would you be mad if they allowed mms?

After reading these threads on this subject it just seems that the people that are not in favor of mms think that email is easier and people that use mms just dont get it. I dont know all of my friends emails and I dont want to ask everyone I know what it is, but if I can call them I know that I can sms or mms them and I know that they get a notification that they got it right away, I dont have to wait for them to check their email. And like other people said it is so anoying to get that msg that there is a pic at this website with user name alfalksdjfa and password laksdjflakj. I love my iphone I just dont see the anger to people that want to use mms, if they offered it you could still email all you want but we would have the option. thanks.

...it is so anoying to get that msg that there is a pic at this website with user name alfalksdjfa and password laksdjflakj...

ROFLMAO....

I feel your pain, really, I do. It's funny how MMS and copy/paste weave a web together. Ah, the frustrations....

That's what kills me (the password part)

I'm a firefighter/paramedic, and I usually send pictures of cars that have been involved in a traffic collision to the trauma centers, and MMS would be so nice in this situation.
wouldnt email be better than mms in that situation?
...or professional. If a firefighter sent me an MMS of a wreck, I'd complain to the city.

I always wondered why AT&T wasn't pushing for it. As ridiculous as it would be, I would pay an extra couple bucks a month for the service.

AT&T wouldn't likely make any extra money on mms because it's already included in their SMS plan. Two possibilites where they would make extra money is on people who a) don't have an SMS plan so have to pay per picture or per text (something tells me though if you don't have an sms plan, you're probably not getting/sending many mms anyways) or b) people who have refused to sign up for SMS plan because it doesn't include mms, but would if were included.

But speaking of making extra money, look at this crap:

This guys's practically stealing your money if you buy this app. You can already do this for free.
