It just shipped. Apple order status page now shows 2/5 ETA. It’s SG btw.

Ordered on Jan 12th: SG 7-core GPU, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. Promised date is Feb 4 - Feb 11 (I'm in California). It shipped on Jan 27th and just arrived in Hong Kong.

2/1/2021 Update: It's currently en route from HKG to ANC

Ordered on 29 December and shipped on the 23 January. Apples projected delivery date was Feb 2-3. Mine was built in EPZ CN to Chek Lap Kok HK to Anchorage AK to Louisville KY to Windsor Locks CT, finally to me. Was sent UPS Expedited keep in mind customs in and customs out.

When Tim Cook joined Apple, the first thing he did was cut inventory and the number of warehouses. The Apple model relies on manufacturers holding onto components and final products whenever possible.

Apple has three distribution centers, CA, TN, and PA. In comparison, Best Buy has about 100.

Right now, Apple's distribution model relies on bulk shipping standard configurations to local distribution centers and then re-shipping to customers. It's cost-effective but slows things down.

The pandemic is a transient thing so I don't think Apple will make huge investments in distribution capacity unless it makes long term sense.

It's funny how B&H Photo in NYC has been able to maintain a pretty good inventory of the upper end 16GB / 1 TB M1's

Interesting. You ordered ahead of me. Maybe more 7-core M1 chips are being made so they are being filled faster?

I ordered the gold base model on 1/25 and just called Apple to see if I could get any update on my order. The woman was very nice and helpful. She said the gold color is often backordered. She said my order was under next business day shipping. However, when I look into my order, it says express shipping. I did not pay any extra for shipping when I bought the computer. I’m not quite sure what is true but I’m sure it will be worth the wait.

My MBA SG base model ordered on 1/21/21 expected delivery between 1/29/21 and 2/5/21 has not been shipped yet. I contacted Apple today via chat and I was informed that it was an overnight shipping. Same with others, on the page it said “Express shipment” so I was a little surprised. Anyway, I was told I should expect to get the item during the fore mentioned period. I did not believe the person I spoke to had a clue what she was talking about. Oh well we will see. This is a birthday gift for my family and I really need to have it at their place over the weekend. Fingers crossed.

Update: Yesterday I got a shipping notification from Apple for an overnight service as mentioned by the chat representative. The package arrived the city (the origin is in CA) this morning and it is on the truck for today!

I was just asking if anyone’s delivery date window has changed. That's all. I am not worried about it. I am excited for it. I am disabled and have been homebound since February so something like this gives me something to look forward to.

It’s not your fault but I appreciate you saying this. Thank you for answering my question. I hope so but we will see how it plays out. It’s just hard because I’ve never had a laptop before with this potential as the m1 chip and I am looking forward to doing fun and more work/pratical things with my machine. And for the first time ever I did not configure my machine because the base model fit my needs.

Just to let you know I ordered mine on 16Jan and it just moved to “Preparing to ship” this morning. It’s like Christmas or birthday when you are younger, waiting is hard when you want something so badly. Hopefully yours will ship soon.

Initial delivery date for 3-4 weeks (so 12/22), got the email on 12/25 (merry xmas!) that it was being delayed by another 5-6 weeks, with the new estimation being 2/2-2/9/21. Still in the "processing order" status as of today. Not hopeful anymore - starting my 11th week now. Given how others with the 8/8 M1 with 16GB RAM shipping, it has to be the SSD.

I understand. Yes, that's very true. hopefully it will be soon but I feel badly as so many others here have been waiting so long. does anyone know if all of these delays or because of the virus and limited stock or because demand for these computers are so high because of the m1 chip?
