The naming convention won't work with the Mac Pro class chips. So instead of just adding to confusion where the $50,000 Mac Pro will need to have a name of M1 Pro Max Super Edition, just say M1 with X CPU and Y GPU.
Nothing’s stopping Apple from using names like M1 Extreme or even X1 for Mac Pro chips.

They don't need to, that is the point. Just say "M1 X CPU and Y CPU" That is all that needs to be said. Just like the Mac Pro screen shot I sent before. It doesn't list what Intel chip it is just "Intel Xeon W". You do know there are numbers in that CPU but Apple doesn't list them right?

Just like an iMac. You know its not just "i9" right, its actually i9 9900k or 10900k.

I wouldn't expect that. Maybe 4X more cores. But single core performance is already rather strong as is.

Yep.

At best, single-core performance might go up something like 15% (if they're increasing the clock and using Avalanche/Blizzard cores, but then why call it the M1X?), but that's probably pushing it. And to reach 4x as much multi-core, they'd probably have to more than quadruple the cores, which ain't happening.

This is getting ludicrous. Mini, pro, pro max .. childish names. Just differentiate by specs and numbers.

I guess Craig’s crack marketing team really cracked here.

Intel’s nomenclature is not consumer-friendly at all. No average consumer will know what’s the difference between i9 ABC and i9 XYZ. What consumers will understand is Pro is better than base.

Maybe they'll do a Nintendo and call it the M1 Pro EEC and M1 Max EEC

So then we might actually see two tiers on the cpu? Base level 14" with a M1 Pro, 16gb Ram and 512gb SSD? Starting at $1,800.00. Then you can upgrade to the M1 Max for $200.00 more? Could the M1 Pro be an 8 core vs M1 Max 10 core?

i think there will be 2 SoC the 10 cores with 16 cores gpu M1 Max and the 32 gpu cores Pro

I believe that the chip will be either M1X or an M2. I believe that the new MacBook pros will be named M1 Pro and the M1 max to signify the M1X with 16 Gb GPU and the 32 Gb GPU. On Monday, I could easily hear the name MacBook M1 Pro or M1 Max.

This makes total sense. Apple Marketing never has like to talk specs. M1X, M1X-32 core GPU, etc.....too many specs not enough hype.
On the other hand M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max are sooooo much easier to hype by Marketing People.

My only problem with this is that it isn’t immediately apparently to me which one is better - Pro or Max? The Max is not Pro? The Pro is not Max?
iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max

Macbook
Macbook Pro
Macbook Pro Max?

Would Apple stick with that naming convention? Or could it be just the naming convention for the processor?
