Is this issue only when using an ethernet connection or does it also affect WiFi throughput?

There's a whole other thread for that, both here, and on the apple forums. From what I've observed most people report either have one problem or the other. Some, like me, were lucky enough to experience both.

From what I've read over in the apple thread, putting the ethernet setting on Manual actually disables this EEE (Energy Efficient Ethernet) feature, which is enabled in Automatic mode. This could explain the fix, and perhaps it's not necessarily AVB/EAV.

As for my claim of 4.5% packet loss even with the fix (while my MBP only had 0.6-0.9%)...I think the MBP just got lucky a few times. Putting my modem/router on an uninterrupted power supply shaved a few percent off the packet loss.

I also suspect that EEE is the culprit. There was a noticeable difference for me when I manually selected Full Duplex without EEE.

I have the issue with my Macbook pro M2 Pro. I've also tried everything with apple support, and the wifi issues always appears. I already asked for the exchange for a new computer, now I'm waiting for it to arrive...

I just walked out of the Apple store today with a mini M2 Pro base. Bypassed the update to 13.2 and stayed with 13.0. No problems with ethernet; fast as my connection allows (1Gbs up/down) with no losses. Haven't tested wifi because don't use it for the desktop. However, I can't blame Ventura 13.2 alone because I didn't have an ethernet problem with 13.2 on the base mini M2.

So you have two minis? Or you had the base M2 and changed to a M2 Pro? Why?

This thread was a life saver.

I just bought a base M2 Pro Mac Mini and was experiencing such severe issues over ethernet I was planning on returning the machine tomorrow.

I was experiencing 56% packet loss!

After following the advice in this thread I'm back to a much more normal 0% packet loss, lol.

Come on Apple, get it together.

Yes, I have both. I wanted to try out the M2 Pro and test it myself. One will be going back.

I am liking the Pro because everything is faster, even mundane things like browsing files in Finder. I think the 2x faster memory bandwidth is being felt. I could live with the base M2 mini but I can live better with the Pro. :)

Under 13.2?

I don't believe that the Pro version was really faster than the M2 non-Pro just for browsing files in the Finder. That doesn't make much sense to me. Even if we have several hundreds of pictures files in a folder (with preview icons), scrolling or browsing should be as fast on both machines. It's even pretty fast on my very old MacBook Pro (12 years old!)

Well, it is my impression not a quantifiable test. It could be expectation bias.

I know cpu speeds are the same and ssd speed not a factor. Maybe increased GPU cores in addition to ram bus speeds are a factor. Who knows. This is why I needed to test things out for myself. When empirical test meets theory, empirical usually wins unless the test method is wrong. Could be in my case. I'll keep testing.

I was considering getting the M2 Pro Mac Mini, but considering the Packet loss issue, now I'm not so sure. With those of you having this issue, is it with the standard 1GbE port, or 10GbE upgrade, or are both affected? Thanks

In the end, I sent the more problematic of my two M2 Pro minis back. (Daily dropouts, even with the "fix"). I decided I probably "needed" 32GB of memory anyway, so... 😅 I got a refurb base model Mac Studio for around the cost of a 32GB M2 Pro mini... At least the Studio's networking worked out of the box! 🤣

This was also an excuse to upgrade my network switch & wired router. With a Thunderbolt to GbE Ethernet adapter & PFSense, my old 2011 Mac mini has a new life as the hub of the network! It joins my 2009 mini which is currently running Home Assistant OS. (Who needs a Raspberry Pi when you have old Mac minis lying around?! 😁)

For my desk, I decided to spring for a 2.5GbE switch, as I have multiple devices that can take advantage of it. Using a USB-C 2.5GbE adapter for the other M2 Pro has been fantastic and so far, everything has been rock solid!

Well, we now have simultaneous threads about both ethernet and wifi problems with the m2 pro. This device is a hard pass until both defects are squarely addressed and fixed.

I upgraded the base M2Pro mini to 13.2 and it did not affect ethernet - as fast as under 13.0.

I think you are right. Turns out I was getting slow reads from a NAS directory with the M2 mini because of some background process running on the NAS that slowed reads. By the time I put in the M2Pro for comparison that background process had finished and the NAS directory was reading faster but it wasn't because of the M2Pro. My bad.

I have since returned the M2Pro because it was only marginally faster than the M2 for what I would typically do. I opened LR, PS, Pixelmator Pro and opened Logic playing a multitrack recording project (something I would not do when processing images) as well as all the usual web browser, mail apps and the M2 base performed without any noticable lags. Yeah, it was swapping but it didn't matter. Same workflow on the M2Pro seemed a little smoother but I am not sure I could tell the difference in a blind test. Memory management and whatever else Apple is doing on these machines is remarkable.

What's the configuration of your mini M2? Ram and ssd? Does the 10Gb worth the extra 100$?

Base configuration: 8/256.

10Gb would be nice but not in the picture for me in the immediate future; would require upgrading the NAS and network switches. I guess if you are planning to do that soon then yes worth it.

Ventura just upgraded to 13.2.1

I wonder if the ethernet/wireless issues have been resolved? I can't see any mention of it in the release notes.

Am I wise to halt triggering the purchase of M2Pro 16/1tb until it's fixed...or do I buy now and hope it will be fixed very soon after?
