And saw a poster hung out with the "tall-like" nano in multi-colors.
I was confused...

I hope they dont go with multiple colors. stick with current colors or something save the muli-colors for cases

If the new iPod touch has a camera what would become of Apple's signature shiny scratch/smudge prone backing? I doubt they could incorporate both.. :p

thats why they get rid of the current backing.... ;)

I totally agree but I've heard rumors of adding a camera and possibly GPS. You know how it goes...the rumor mill. My point is, if they did update the touch- I wonder what they would do with the exception of more storage. Maybe they would update the touch by introducing more models with bigger screens - transitioning the touch into their "tablet" line or something. In my opinion. I see the touch right now as a small tablet. it just needs a more traditional GUI. the macbooks use to come with 20GB HDs and ran OSX..maybe they'll just go that route with the touch and make the screens a little bigger. Who knows
Very good idea, transitioning the touch to a tablet. :) I could definitely see this happening! Only that it would take iPod away from the name, but maybe they'll keep the current touch line, upgrading its storage and maybe adding a few features like you mentioned. Then branch off separately making a new but similar model as a functional tablet device. I guess we'll find out in a month in a half, I'm just stoked for whatever Apple comes out with!

The touch just came out last year, I dobut they will discontune it so soon...

i noticed the article said a new macbook with a glass trackpad and not saying whether the macbook pro had one too. I thought the glass trackpad applied to both.

Ahem... WHAT THE HECK WOULD A GPS DO ON AN iPOD TOUCH?!
It would only work if you were in a wifi hot spot or your house.
And then you would have no need to use the GPS, unless you had like amnesia or something. XDDD

How does your Magellen GPS work without a wifi or mobile phone connection? Preloaded maps.

GPS has nothing, and I do mean NOTHING to do with wifi or other data connections. You could download your maps at home, and then take your trip and use GPS, without needing wireless connectivity on the road.

Ah.....Thank you. I was thinking the same thing. Some people dont know what they are talking about but think they do. I blame the self esteem movement of the 80s and 90s.

For the record... I never said they are going to put GPS or a camera in the touch. I was just merely mentioning some suggestions other people have made as I pondered what possible revisions they could make to the touch to make it more marketable since the iphone price drops. I just think the new cheaper iphone has somewhat canabilized the touch market to some effect. To me, keeping the same model (with more storage) and introducing a larger size could help them transition into the tablet market. I could see a 7-10" ipod touch or whatever you want to call it... running standard OSX and there you go... the mystical tablet everyone wants. The form factor can be basically the same..just bigger and the button can be used to bring everyone back to the desktop. I could see those flying off the shelves. Over time transition all the ipods over to the touch format and the click wheel ipods will be a thing of the past. Throw in a few colors options and people will go even crazier. I think the MBA will eventually go away because its just an intermediate device thats more bling than functionality. (just my opinion-not looking to get flamed). The macbooks and MBP will be the bread and butter for apple in the laptop market. Phase the touch into a larger format and you have something that people can use when they dont want to tote their laptops around. Just my thoughts.

I always hear about these updates to the macbook but nothing much is said about the macbook pro. Maybe they're going to make the macbook the flagship laptop of apple and for an extra $500, you can get the subpar macbook pro. They can even rename it to the macbook semi-pro :D

i wonder how they choose the timing.

I suspect the September 15th releases would allow old stock to go cheap, thus students cash in on discounts in August/September before the new stuff comes in. In essence the students become maggots, eating the dead product flesh off the Apple shelves, allowing for clean product to grow anew. :p

Im sure they have it all down to a science

STAY WITH THE PLASTIC!!!! common, apple, keep the macbook plastic!! the wireless connectivity of the aluminum computers is terrible compared to the plastic casing. i know aesthetic appeal and "sexiness" is so important, but just this once, please take function into highest consideration!!!
I think the one of the main factors is a reduced footprint. My understanding is the plastic is more hurtful for the environment.

Sorry for sounding like a nut. But I thought GPS would need to capture a satellite every so often to verify your location with the information on the map?

Sounds like Christmas is late August or September to me. Guess I should go ahead and dig my tree out.

LOL Well I guess I'll dig my out too.

Yes. True GPS is a radio receiver, nothing more. It picks up signals from multiple satellites that are sending out signals that are time-sync'd. Based on how out-of-sync your GPS receiver is between the different satellites, it can tell where you are in space (think: triangulation, but in 3 dimensions). The reason you might want wifi or wireless phone connectivity is to download a map of the place you are at.

But that model (such as google maps for blackberry, which I use often) is broken: Take a truck out in the Hollister hills, offroad. You lose your maps because you lose your AT&T connection.

I've decided. There's a tax holiday in NC this weekend, and I'm getting an MBP on Saturday. It'll be sufficient for my needs over the next few years, and I'm sure that the $121 saving will make up for any update a couple of weeks later. And if it happens a month afterward? Well, I'll have enjoyed it for a month by then!

Thanks for the info. Makes perfect sense. :)

Aww no biggie. Sometimes I sound like a nut myself...sometimes I sound like two nuts :D My wife likes nuts!! (errr...that might of come out wrong)

Oh, I wasn't saying you did.
I was in hurry so I just looked for the first one that mentioned iPod Touches with GPS.

Beside that...
I definitely agree when you say the iPhone 3G messed up the Touch's reputation and market.
People are saying "Oh, I mine as well get an iPhone since it's $100 cheaper."
So since the iPhone is $199 for 8GBs I think they may take away the 8GB Touch and lower the 16GB to $199.
But, I do not see the clickwheel iPods dissappearing, at least anytime soon that is.
It's just not the right time.
They will probably get rid of them with the introduction of a 124GB Touch type thing in a few years.
They have been Apple's total out look and one of their main products for almost 8 years.
I think that with everything they are doing, fall 2010 will be a good time to get rid of them.

Has any noticed that MBP is an acronym for:
Mass Balance Potential
ManBearPig
MacBook Pro

I think there's an Al Gore conspiracy here with the environment, new Macs out next month and the new X-Files movie being release

Oooh, I like "ManBearPig" All my prior posts now are officially retconned to reflect MBP as meaning "ManBearPig" unless there are subtle sexual overtones to the comment. For those I mean "Mass Balance Potential". :D
