BR can't be the highest priority for Apple. Obviously even in the forums, its not what the majority of us wants right now. and i don't even think they support BR yet.

They've been on the blu ray supporters team since it pretty much started.

Thanks for the comparison / contrast. I always wondered what the difference on Blue Ray would look like. To be honest, I don't see what the hype is all about. The images look the same to me. Guess I don't have the discerning eye than others may have. That's all right, it probably means I want be tempted into spending money on Blue Ray for probably several more years.

Well, that image honestly wasn't a good example. Take a VHS and watch it for about 10 minutes, then watch that same exact movie on DVD. Can you tell a big difference? I sure can at least, without a discerning eye too. It's actually very noticeable immediately and most people will say the same. Now watch that same DVD for about 10 minutes or more, then pop in a BLU-RAY disc and the same type of thing. I honestly thought DVD's looked great until you see a high-definition movie then you realize how much sharper and clearer everything is plus the colors are a lot more vivid. This is also noticed a lot more on a larger TV (42" plus). The big TV's have to stretch the same quality over a much larger surface resulting in degraded quality, which is why high definition looks amazing because even stretched out, it looks way better than a DVD on a smaller screen.

Don't feel bad. Most people actually can't tell the difference.

It's actually very noticeable. Most people can tell the difference and also tell me this when I put in a blu-ray on my 51" TV. I think it's noticed a lot more on bigger TV's but even smaller TV's will have a noticeable difference as well. Watch a 480P movie and compare it to a 1080P movie. The difference will be noticeable immediately. Watch the 1080P blu-ray and then switch back to DVD and you'll see.

For a "regular 46" screen - the optimal distance for 1080p is 6 feet.
For your 24" screen the optimal distance is probably around 2 feet.

For 1080p to really catch on, we either need much bigger TVs.
Or much smaller houses.

For real. Some people will always want blu-ray. The picture is superior. If you don't want it, stop complaining because it's sticking around regardless if Apple adopts it or not. If you do want it, stop complaining and buy an external drive until Apple actually implements it if they ever do.

Moving on. No one ever answered my question:

Is anyone worried about buying a notebook if there is a redesign and getting crapped out by a Rev. A type like how the current designed MacBooks did when they first released? I mean, the iPhones are already showing case cracking, but that will probably be fixed eventually... What if something happens like this to the notebooks?

Something will always happen to new released items, its inevitable. the only problem is how effective/problamatical it'll be. i guess its a risk you have to take, and its not such a big deal, they'll replace/update if anything is flawed with your laptop.

Apple Fan Boys!!!!!!!!!!

Apple Fan Boys make me sick! you guys are really whipped! Open up and look at alternatives. Sure the macbook pros look amazing but the dell xps m1530, hp dv6800t etc.. pack more punch for a lot less.

What has happened the informed consumer?

Well we all know what happens with the first revision. I tend to call it the experimental revision, cause normally you get a bunch of problems which are solved in the 2nd revision and so on. Whatever the design is, we WILL get problems as usual. I'm not saying major issues like GPU failures:rolleyes: or case cracking:rolleyes: but maybe problems with the screen or other components(ext or int) But hey, if we get a redesign that gets me all pumped up and I'll still go buy one!!:D The almighty :apple: got me!

Btw I'm praying the MBP comes out before september 15 cause I'm starting school on the 2nd of september and I'm in dying need of a new computer my AMD 64 is gettin all F**ked up.

lol do you really want to debate this in a unrelated thread with hundred of thousands of mac lovers? you should look into other threads about why mac is better.

iPods on the first or second week of September is a given.

Special Event? Any hints? If there is one we may finally see iTunes X.

Notebooks may be announced earlier than release, especially if there's another Special Event for them.

There may be a big special event for iPods and notebooks.

Because iPods and notebooks are listed together, it can be concluded that they are tracking for a similar or same release timeframe (not necessarily announcement timeframe).

Give it time soon you, your friends and your family will move to blu-ray......
Not for me; I'm moving away from optical anything.
  • Movies? DVDs and online. Whatever fits the bill.
  • Storage? Flash drives. Much more convenient than an optical drive.
  • Archiving? Hard drives.

Yup. The "Blu-ray" version is a little sharper but that's about it.

STAY WITH THE PLASTIC!!!! common, apple, keep the macbook plastic!! the wireless connectivity of the aluminum computers is terrible compared to the plastic casing.
There's no way Apple can put a small piece of plastic to help wireless connectivity?

Anyone else worried about getting crapped out with a Rev. A if there is a redesign? Or all you just so excited to get the latest and greatest even if it's faulty?
If it's faulty, I'll return it.

I find the possibility of a Macbook touch quite interesting. As apple have not entered into tablets yet I feel this is something they most defiantly will be working on.
With the lack of a Eee-like Mac, and the multi-touch glass trackpad MacBook rumors, Apple may be purposely not extending Mac OS X beyond standard laptops and desktops. The reasons may include low hardware specs of an Eee Mac (not fully suitable for Mac OS X) and that Mac OS X is not designed for a multi-touch display.

Isn't the problem with Bluray players that they consume too much power to be viably implemented into a laptop?
That doesn't explain why there's no Blu-ray on the Mac Pro or iMac.

Anyone want to take an educated guess as to what specs the MBP will have

Not been following the rumour mill for a while, so i've got no idea what's just round the corner
  • Similar screen sizes (13", 15", 17")
  • 2.27/2.4 GHz processors for the MacBook, 2.53/2.8 GHz processors for the MacBook Pro
  • 2 GB RAM, upgradable to 8 GB
  • Similar HD sizes (120/160/250/200/250 GB), maybe one capacity bump up (160/200/250/250/300 GB)
  • MacBook Pros to have 96x0M or ATI equivalent, MacBooks to have integrated graphics
  • NO Blu-ray, DVD burners only (bye-bye Combo Drive)
  • Same display resolutions, including the 1920·1200 BTO 17" option
  • Price most likely won't decrease. Following previous trends, price may actually increase.
  • Multi-touch glass trackpad
  • Tablet Mac? I'm not so sure now that the glass trackpad rumors have come
This is a fairly moderate set of specs.

Now the **** about BR and lets talk about something more productive

By productive do you mean more guessing? Nobody on here actually knows when anything is going to be released OR what is going to be released even though some people type like they're typing the truth. I have been checking these forums over and over again waiting for a new MBP and at the end of my reading I really found no exact answer. I guess because there isn't one or on the main page it would say "<Insert Date here> is when new notebooks will be released." Talking about blu-ray and how good it is, while talking about how we want it in the next MBP is just as productive as talking about when or what will be in the next revision.

I guess I'm asking for some sort of negative comment heh oh well

Hmm. Okay. Well I plan on buying AppleCare regardless, but I'm still a bit worried. If I have to send it in or anything, it would be annoying though.

I'll probably wait and see the redesign is amazingly spectacular before I decide if I should just buy a new one or get a refurb. I say all of this knowing that if there is a redesign, I'll most likely drool over it and have to buy it and not care about this problem at all

Well if you don't care about crappy build quality, then sure get a dell dude.

alright newbie. by productive i mean what this thread is based upon, the new production of ipods and macbooks. i simply said that talking about BR in macbooks is not helping since its not going to happen anytime soon, hence its not worth to talk about at this moment.

If we get a Blu-ray drive as an option, what are you going to do with it?

a lot of people actually buy blue ray movies. they are to lazy to rip them and they don't want to buy an extra DVD so that they can watch it on their laptop (on a plane, train, vacation trip).

you'd be surprised how often i heard people say " oh i grab a movie for the flight" and then they bought 2 or 3 DVD's for $24 each although you could get them for $15 as well. that's the people who would buy a blue ray as well and who would buy a laptop with a blue ray drive although they only have full resolution at their stereo system at home.

FYI: Last year new iPods were on Wednesday Sept. 5th (The Beat Goes On), all Apple's new products came out on a Wednesday last year - This year its more Tuesday? Last year Back to School finished on Sept. 16th 11DAYS AFTER - but you could only get the OLD generation iPods not the fresh batch.

I Believe it will be on the first or second tuesday of Sept. REGARDLESS OF BACK TO SCHOOL.

this post was made to shut up those people saying its going to be after the BTS offer finishes

/FYI:

This would be totally reasonable...I'd certainly help clear out old stock of iPod touches in conjuction with a new laptop. I'd happily take a free (old) touch in the face of paying for a newer one

OK shut up about how Blu-ray sucks and downloads will rule. Ok i for one enjoy image quality. Ever since i got a blu-ray player i have only bought one DVD, so i would enjoy MB/P with Blu-ray.

As for the image shoot-out with the joker and such. pop in a DVD take a screenshot, then pop in a Blu-ray take a screenshot... Then post them and see what people have to say about that.

(edit) sorry for stealing your idea cg165, wasnt paying attention

Well if you don't care about crappy build quality, then sure get a dell dude.

Dell has excellent build quality!

Listen, i have nothing against Apple, they make excellent computers, but those blind and whipped which cherish Mr.Jobs for everything his company makes are stupid. The Macbook Pros are over-priced, and they get away with it because of idiot worshipers of Apple like you!

Dieing? ummm it fought off the formatt war with HD-DVD, so yeah its alive and kicking. People said the same thing about DVDs back in the late 90s, they said VHS will stay, ha 5 years later VHS died and DVD came in full swing. Give it time, in a few short years blu-ray will be all the rave...

Yeh, maybe...

I couldn't really care about Blu-Ray, but that's just me. However, as many people have pointed out, what is the point of Blu-Ray on a laptop? Because you'd ideally want a large monitor/TV to get the best viewing experience, I can't see the average consumer buying into this.

Oh yeh, and complete failure of widespread adoption of MiniDisc, SACD, Digital-8, Memory Stick and UMD really don't inspire me with any faith in Sony.

For those who believe that the optical media is dying... well let me remind you that USA and Europe arent the only countries/continents in the World! We live in the US (and other developed nations) but conveniently forget about other countries where such bandwidth provision is nowhere to be seen!
