No friggen way...

I have had a problem with iphoto not burning photos ever since day one.
My problem was that when I tried to burn a disc within iphoto it would always pop up an alert saying that "there is not enough room on the disc to burn your images, please select less images and try again". I tried less and less images until I had only one left weighing about 400K still no burn. I spent many unfruitful hours looking online for a reason, but gave up. After update? successful burn of over 300 images. yippy. Before, I had to burn the images from the hard drive manually which was a pain because of all the nested directories. Now to get back some of that precious HD space.

For what its worth I have a 400MHZ TIPB with an external firewire smartDisk that came with the PB because Apple was just coming out with the combo drive.

Did I say that I love Apple?

He's actually considering going to Linux now. While it's not as good as going to a Mac, it's still better than Windows!

At least 10.2.8 only crashes my comp, 10.2.6 would crash his too :p

10.2.8 is running so smooth on my PowerMacs. The only one it seems to be slow on is my computer with the CPU upgrade.

Hmmm... really... upgrading is scary... I am, however, tempted by the promise of a quieter fan. :)

Still going to wait a couple more days.

Temporary Glitch

I got mild scare when I restarted my Ti 500 after upgrading 10.2.6 to 10.2.8: a bunch of Quicktime .mov clips on my desktop had iTunes 4 icons!

What was really strange was the icons had the word "MOVIE" stamped on them the way the correct quicktime icons would have.

Anyway, restarting again corrected the icons.

BTW, just checked iTunes' resources, and there is an iTunes movie icon. Whatever for?

Booting feels much faster, which a few people have mentioned. Did anybody actually time it before and after the update? If not, I suggest/request that someone planning to install 10.2.8 do a test reboot and time it before running Software Update, and then again with the reboot following the update.

Not to scare anyone too badly, but I updated an eMac at work and now have an unbootable OS X install.

The machine somehow fell asleep during the update and refused to wake back up. After a hard restart, all I can get is the grey screen with the spinning progress indicator. fsck and repairing permissions haven't had any effect.

if you didn't pour so much freaking booze in the CD tray, it might not fall asleep so fast. it probably just has a nasty hangover right now.

VIDEO iPOD!!! :D

...sorry.

Getting back on topic, I found some of my RealAudio files went and associated themselves with MPlayer. I've corrected the associations but they've still got the MPlayer icon. Maybe a reboot will fix it, but I'm in the middle of a download and don't want to reboot (the server has limited slots).

I'm sitting in a bar in Oakland, CA downloading the update (free WI-FI-woo-hoo)...I really hope it doesn't hose my iBook 900 up. I'll let you know....

Samba kernel panics

Not to post on a completely unrelated topic, but have you guys changed your hosts in Net Info manager?

If you need help, email me and I can send a link.

Also, I installed 10.2.8 on my iBook dual USB 500 mhz and my single processor G4 (1 Ghz) and had no problems so far. My iBook battery life has been pathetic so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see how it works under 10.2.8.

Best o' luck.

You're not gonna come hijack my iBook if I tell you are you? Haha. Just kidding. It's just that Oakland seems a little shady at times...

I am here on business and found this place last night. It's called Pacific Coast Brewing Co. on Washington street. Free WI-FI, good food, and great beer....what more can I ask?

By the way, after the update my battery life is slowly creeping up ?!@ Strange. Just hope it doesn't ruin my battery life....it's gonna be a long flight if it does (i.e. I'll suddenly feel like a windows user)...

that sometimes happens when you go from intense CPU load to a light CPU load, in my experience. shouldn't be a bad thing.

What ever bar you are sitting in there has to be some pissed off raider fans I know because I'm one, Sorry to be off topic. BTW I just updated to 10.2.8 and my word docs are showing up with a blank icon so I am going to restart and see what happens. On another note my dockis still clear.

Well my word icons are back but startup on my tibook 800 1gig ram is super slowww. It takes at least twice as long to restart, luckily I only restart a couple times a month.

i'll ask my dad he's running a pismo (i think) firewire 500 mghz g3 right now using 10.2.6, i'll ask him to time it ect alright?

Ok, I just installed the 10.2.8 update on my 2002 800MHz iBook, and....it killed it. It now powers down soon after boot, when it says:
*** PAS: gotChildIterator
in verbose mode. Lush.
a) Any ideas as to how to fix? (seems to be a kernel problem)
b) Be careful about installing on this machine!

Cheers

10.2.8 up and running fine on my 800 iBook. I've seen that others have no problem with their 800-ers either. Must be something about your machine. You had me a bit worried whilst I was upgrading :(

All fine and well now............exept bat. time down about 2h from usual

I let the battery run all the way down, and even though it initially said only 1:50, it lasted over 3 hours - and that is while running a number of programs.

However, now my superdrive is non-responsive whenever I try to insert a cd or dvd. I never had this problem before, and I have no idea what to do.

Boot Times

Alright....I tested this from the startup chime, to when the blue screen first appears.
I did a reboot on my Quicksilver 733 before I installed; that took about 46 seconds.
After I installed and rebooted from Installer, it took about 1 min 27 sec.
I restarted again, and that time it took 47 sec.
Therefore, for me, bootup time is normal. My Icons on the desktop DID change; they were 2 .wma files. The icons had changed to the old Media Player v6 block icon. Also, If you've installed Flash Player 7, the update will revert you back to v6. I'll see how the OS runs over the course of the week.

I WOULD put in the apple hardware test cd if I could, but since I can't, does anyone know how I might run a diagnostic check to see what the problem is?

For starters, you could run Apple System Profiler (in the Utilities folder) and check that the Superdrive shows up in the Bus section of the Devices and Volumes tab, and whether an inserted CD or DVD shows up as a sub-component to its right in the display. This would at least tell you whether the hardware is being detected.
