Hello everyone.

Am I the only one with fan-problems when using 10.3.3? It just keeps blowing and blowing. I have a PB rev a 12" 867MHz 640 mb ram.

Now I'm back at 10.3.1...

Same here- Ive got a Rev A 12" PB G4 with 256 and it blows all of the time, but when I set nap in the hardware prefs, it slows down and sometimes it stops. It didnt start until i unchecked nap tho.

There does appear to be a "USB Drive" bug of some sort affecting SOME Macs.

Can't really help you because you did NOT fill out your User PROFILE when you joined / have NOT kept your Profile up to date.
https://forums.macrumors.com/member.php?userid=19717

In the Menu bar to the far left, click on User CP, then Click on Edit User Profile and Edit Signature (where you can tell everyone what computers you have) and do the deeds.

However, you did run REPAIR DISK PERMISSION, right?

ok, i updated all that stuff, but for the record i have a 1ghz Albook 15". that better? and yes i did repair permissions...twice. i hope that narrows down any system specific issues there could be. thanks for the help.

DVD Player hosed

After the 10.3.3 update, the DVD Player is all screwed up. Any DVD that I play has blocks of distortion throughout the entire movie. Could someone please test playing a DVD and tell me if I'm the only one who experienced this crap? It was so annoying that I did a backup and did a clean install to 10.3.2. Now, it plays normally... but I'm lacking the ability for DVD Player to read DVD-R. This sucks!

I suggest you start a new thread by this name,
USB drives disappear after 10.3.3 update - HELP!
describing your experience, which Mac you have, and the type of "USB Drive" being affected.
This way those who have the problem will know about each other, and
hopefully someone who has found a solution
without having to reinitializing your main hard drive & reinstalling Panther
will share it with you - maybe AppleCare helped them.

Read back in this thread, you will find the names of others, maybe even one who has found an easy solution.
Key words to look for: USB drive

Well I'm pleased with 10.3.3 :)

The graphics drivers for GForce MX2 32meg work a lot better based on a before and after test in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon and an Exposé/Finder test also. Smoother yay!

I have posted an online list of the changes from the OS X 10.3.3 Archive.bom if anyone is interested.

URL Link: OS X 10.3.3 System Changes (455k html page)

Cheers

UPS and system prefs

I don't see any new options related to UPS's in the energy saver preference panel that were mentioned earlier in this thread. In fact it seems that the update didn't replace the system preferences application which is still v2.2.

YAY! Mail works without crashing every time i try and use it, now!

and they said there was nothing wrong with the trash filters...clearly there was, because they had to "enhance" Mail to make it quit "unexpectedly failing"

oh wait...crap....iChat Rendezvous messaging is giving me an unknown error and freezing....

grrrr....

Why has Panther been so "fix one thing, break another"?

Oh man. Did you look at the list of updates to 10.3.3 that I posted via the link a few messages ago?

nope? didn't think so...

The list of changes includes the EnergySaver.prefPane (as well as BlueTooth.prefPane, Ink.prefPane, Keyboard.prefPane, Network.prefPane and Security.prefPane). You won't see the changes to the EnergySaver.prefPane unless you have a UPS connected.

Can anyone tell me if the InkWell update improves the accuracy/reliability at all? I don't have a Wacom tablet to check.

Very funny!

{minor snip}

One of the reps who works for me is in the market for a new computer. Asked me why I like Macs. Was my chance to convert another.

{major snip}

Said he wanted to spend around $600. Told him to go for $800 or so and he could have all this. Jumped over to the Apple Store and showed him a refurb eMac for $699. (now gone but I'm sure more will appear). Is seriously considering it.

Got home and had an email from him with a list of questions. I think I got him. If not, I'll just fire his ass.

This was one of the funniest posts I have read in a very long time. Great story. Great setup. Great delivery!

I played a DVD on my 1GHz eMac w/Combo Drive, works perfectly.

FUNNY? You probably thought rdowns was just kidding around, huh?
NO, he's totally serious, man.
rdowns is really going to fire that dude's arse
if the guy proves how stupid he is by picking a PC instead of a Mac.
Rightly, so, don't you think? Especially, if the guy really checks it out.
It's kind of a combined Intelligence Test and Reality Check. Duh!
He he he he... :D

Maybe this has been noticed already (I didn't read all 16 pages!), but I just burned a CD-RW and only got one disc icon when it was finished. Finally seems to work right. As far as I can recall, it still gave two disc icons after burning under 10.3.2.

On a similar note:

Due to partial amnesia, I can no longer remember how this worked prior to 10.3.3, but now, when I burn a DVD (a data one, done by copying files to the icon and burning it via the Finder sidebar), the DVD icon disappears until I eject and reinsert the DVD.

Did it always work that way?

Dude, that was back in 10.2.8, so if they haven't told you about it by now why would 10.3.3 being released make any difference?

Why would it matter to you then? :)

This is not supposed to sound rude so if it does I apologize. Why reply with this? It furthers nothing and clutters the board.

My First Kernal Panic

You are absolutely right. I ran Repair Permissions over and over. I also have Tech. Tools Pro. on my system as well and ran the full system scan. I still have 2 critical errors that I can't seem to iron out. Other than my first Kernal Panic, 10.3.3 has really bumped up my system's speed.

Now if I can get the pinyin (Mandarin Chinese tones) from showing up in Safari I would completely covert from IE. This is my first Mac and I can't see going back to a Windows world.

I updated to 10.3.3 at the local Apple Store, using their T-1. The nearly 60 meg file via dialup would have been fruitless.

While I was there, two customers brought in their recent model laptops with similar problems that you describe.

Before and after you download and install software updaters:

REPAIR PERMISSIONS, REPAIR PERMISSIONS, REPAIR PERMISSIONS !!!

anyone else having problems getting a usb thumb drive to mount to the desktop. it shows up under the system profiler when it's plugged in, but won't show up on the desktop. worked perfectly until 10.3.3. any help is appreciated.

10.3.3 & miniVigor128

I'm connected to the internet using a DrayTek ISDN miniVigor128 USB modem. After installing the update, my connection has been somewhat unstable. I get kind of disconnected pretty often. That means I'm not actually disconnected (or so does the system think), but I can't load anything. Also disconnecting isn't possible, except by restarting. Hope draytek announces an update or something. this isn't anything I want from my setup.

anyone else experiencing the same problem?

When I updated to 10.3.3 at the Apple Store, the ONLY devices attached to the back of the G4-733 were:
Apple flat panel display, and ethernet cable, and power cable.

The keyboard & mouse was attached to the the monitor.

Maybe that has something to do with successful download and installation, and a lack of problems with devices at home.

HINT: Detach your peripherals before you download and install the updater.
