I can't run the update until I get home tonight. Will someone please check something for me?
If you have a third-party LCD monitor, check its listing in the System Profiler and see if it says "CRT"

Profiler still says "CRT" for my LCD monitor (VGA analog connection through a KVM switch then a DVI-VGA connector to the second output of the video card ... so your mileage may vary ...)

Dell 2001FP listed as CRT under System Profiler

I have a KOGi L7EH 17" VGA monitor that worked fine with Jaguar, but under Panther it lists as CRT rather than LCD. In addition, some full-screen games give an "out of range" monitor error when I try to play them. I have to force-quit the games to get the monitor back. Everything works fine when I hook up my little Sony 15" CRT and the monitor is detected and listed by model in the displays menu!
This has happened on both my old B&W and my new G5.

Thanks in advance

Well I checked my System Profiler and I too have this same listing. I am using a Dell 2001FP.

Albook 867 - 640MB, 60GB, Superdrive. 40GB iPod, Green Mini. Soundsticks. iSight. and hopefully in a few weeks - 2.2ghz G5. :D

Gah...wouldn't you know it....

I've been waiting desperately for this update because of a problem with hangs and freezes....

Of course, for the last five days, my TiBook has been behaving perfectly...

Now I want to see if it can get some significant uptime before I upgrade. Guess I'll wait a couple more days to see how everyone gets on with 10.3.3. Certainly seems like people are pleased.....

My iBook is now sick!!!

My iBook won't finish booting now!!!! HELP!!!

I know.. I should have waited.. but that is well.. just not me.

Ok.. iBook 700/640MB/20GB/CDrom/airport/16mb video

just updated to 10.3.3 and restarted.. on restart I get the Apple Logo screen and then it just shuts down after like 5 seconds.

I'm at school and well.. I really need it NOW!!! This sucks!

Gonna try resetting the PRAM and cross my fingers.

*edit: CRAP!!! resetting nvram & pram did NOTHING!! crap crap crap!

A kind gentleman helped me, and here are the instructions for those interested:

open systemversion.plist using pico:

sudo pico /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist

then edit it to say 10.3.2 and 10.3.2's build number 7D24

then remove the 10.3.3 receipt from /Library/Receipts/ folder
you should be good to go to install then.

I don't hold out much hope of ever being able to play Soldier of Fortune on my 17"

Oh well, there's always MoHAA!

YMMV

I don't know what's up with that. I was hoping 10.3.3 would fix my monitor prob, but now I don't think so.

Thanks again

Would someone post the build number, please? 7F44 was mentioned, but I'm an ADC member, had already installed 7F43 over the weekend, and I'm not seeing the update in SWU. Curious.
You need to log into your ADC account and get the reversioner. Then you'll be able to see the update. If you can't get it, read my last post before this to get the update to show and install correctly.

In case anyone is intersted, here are the version changes for the listed applications. Contrary to the description, ImageCapture and DVD Player retained their same version number.

[EDIT: My status has now been upgraded from member to regular -- I'm glad that a post as nerdy as this one crossed me over!!!]

FCP works fine now

I have that but for some reason it was crashing. I had an updater lying around and ran that then restarted...works fine now.

Screen shift in UT2004 Demo observed

Oh well, there's always MoHAA!

The following was tested before the 10.3.3 update...

When Unreal Tournament 2004 first started, my monitor tried to auto adjust, and then displayed a screen that was shifted halfway to the left. The default resolution of 800x600 appears to be conflicting with the hardware/software combo. I did test 1024x768, 1280x1024, and 1620x1200 with much success.

You are absolutely right. If you are using any advanced Apple program such as FCP, DVD SP and the like, I would strongly suggest checking for updates on those programs when updating the OS.

Is this common on the 12" PB? On both my Pismo 500 and Aluminum PB 1.25 the fan almost never comes on.
Yep, it's a known feature of 10.3.x on 12" PB.
Otherwise this 10.3.3 update has been really smooth. No problems at all. Just don't forget to repair permissions again (well, that's another story).

Still not able to browse :(

I don't know if this is a PEBKAC problem or if there's something *really* screwy with my system... but it exists on all three of my Macs:

After updating to 10.3.3, I still can't gain a list of SMB servers to connect to under Finder. If I go to Finder and select "Connect To Server..." and hit the Browse button, I'm just given the Network area of a Finder window.

Now, there's only three empty directories there - Applications, Users, and Library. Never a list of servers or anything.

Any thoughts?

I noticed after I installed the update that when searching through my campus' network it would consistently freeze up. Hopefully it was only a two time coincidence! ;)

Not really. It's been doing the same time here as well. I've found it does it with Windows Computers that are listed on the network, but don't have a folder shared. Of course it'd be nice if you could cancel this like if you manually entered the address from the Cmd+K. Also SMB shares that give you the -50 with the Cmd+K seem to freeze finder while browsing. I'll feedback APPLE.

Scanner and Photoshop Problems with 10.3.3

I installed 10.3.3 and everything worked fine until I tried to use my scanner, an Epson Perfection 3200 Photo and Photoshop Elements 2.0. Got the message, "scanner not installed".

Had to reinstall scanner, then Photoshop Elements kept shutting down. Reinstalled updates to Photoshop Elements.

Restarted the computer (Mac G4 Dual 1 Ghz). No help. Shut down and restarted, took a long time to come back up, then keyboard wouldn't work. Did another shutdown and restarted.

Seems to be working now, in a microsoft windows sort of way.

Sure is nice to see apple and microsoft apparently collaborating on operating systems.

With all the glowing reviews I must be doing something wrong; however...

SMB with my Win2K server had been sort of flaky for me before (especially when waking from sleep) but it did work. I could click 'Connect...' in Finder under the Network browser, it would prompt me for username and password (which it would never save to the keychain even if I clicked the box), and I'd be connected. Now I go through that same sequence, same username and password, and I get:

The alias "<servername>" could not be opened, because the original item could not be found.

My server is listed right there in the finder ... how could it not be found?

If I do Go/Connect to Server, I type in smb://10.0.0.39, then enter my username and password, and get:

The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "smb://10.0.0.39" could not be read or written. (Error code -36).

Again, something must be wrong in my settings or my methods, but at this point it's hard not to say that I'm worse off SMB-wise with 10.3.3 than I was with 10.3.2. At this point, I'm dead in the water.

My installation failed (mostly)

I tried to install 10.3.3 on my dual 2 GHz G5, and it failed. It no longer shows up in the Update Window, but downloading it from Apple and installing it that way meets with the same result. It gets to "writing files: 84%" and reports "error installing software". The OS reports the version as 10.3.3, but there is no 10.3.3 in /Library/Receipts. I think most of the apps updated, but I know the installation didn't totally finish. I didn't install any pre-release versions of the OS (never have), nor do I have any software like a virus scanner that would interfere with the installation. Any ideas?

just installed it, and now disk utility wont launch at all, it bounces and then crashes, so any disk images i download from safari and such dont even work, this is a bummer, anyone else experiencing this?

After reading this, I tried it too and have the same problem. I'm hoping it's just keychain related....

tibook550; DEFINITELY snappier

10.3 was a decent upgrade, but I can definitely feel an improvement in responsiveness after upgrading to 10.3.3.

It took about 2 minutes to restart after installing. I could immediately tell the difference by waving my cursor over the dock. Less syrup, more lucid.

Launched iChat and then Safari.. moved a few windows around in iChat and there wasn't nearly as much hesitation. Ditto for Safari. Up until this update, waving my mouse over a shortcut in Safari and clicking would take up to a second to see a response. This has been elminated.

I've yet to launch photohop or iMovie yet, but look forward to the improvement in response. Hope that this helps.

Titanium Powerbook G4 550, 768MB ram, nearly full 20 GB HD.

You have both of my problems, Lance?

Thing is, I'm not even using keychain. Manually typing the username and password each time.

Funny, after everyone seemed so happy suddenly we have this mini-flood of negative experiences. Not until after I installed, though!
