I don't think it's available to the general public yet. I'm downloading it through my MS Rechnet account. It's 266 megs! It's the full network install. It says on their website that there will be a smaller download available through Windows Update shortly, and that it'll be much smaller.

But anyway...kudos to Apple on their update. Seems like with every update, my computers run faster and faster!

It's officially available from MS now, even though the server is being slammed. I downloaded and installed yesterday, it's a pretty nice update, but I foresee a ton of Firewall/Security related issues stemming from it, because people not smart enough to protect there PC in the first place, won't have an idea of how to use it once protected. I will say that IE seems a bit faster and the Pop-Up blocker works well, but I still like Firefox better.

well

apples support site still shows' 10.3.4 and plus the links to the docs don't work...

My G5's fans won't shut off when it goes into sleep mode now... anyone else have this problem?!?

the window animation when you open a folder seams extremely fast now. i havent repaired permissions either. this makes me think they tweaked some finder interface animations.

Cinebench results

Hi,
I did some benchmarking with Cinebench 2003 before and after the update.
A few points better... :)

Updating my parent's old skool iMac now. 22.9MB there. It showed as 43MB on my PB, but I saw someone with an eMac say theirs was 22.9MB too, so there goes my G3/G4 theory...
Anyways, I'm gonna wait a bit to install it on here, because I wanna watch some anime RIGHT FREAKIN' NOW! :D

Installed on a PB 867mhz

I installed it on my PB 867mhz and my g4 400 (yikes) machine. Finder dosen't stall anymore after you try to access a disconected server, and my airport has a stronger signal. I noticed a speed bump as well. The real test is tomorrow at work with the g5 1.6 on a PeeCee network

Yes, apparently the PNG graphics format had a buffer overflow error that allowed malicious code to be run on ANY system. This must be the fix! YAY

Correction:

The PNG graphics format handling code which is freely available contained a buffer overrun hole. Buffer overrun holes can on some systems be used to run malicious code, or to corrupt other process's memory. I haven't heard that this particular hole posed any threat to OS X's memory structure. Plus, of course, a virus exploiting a fairly uncommon hole and aiming at a fairly uncommon platform (PPC at the least) is not anywhere near the level of peril our Windows-using brethren laugh at in their sleep.

Two sizes showing up in my updater...

Okay, so my Software Update (for my 12" PowerBook 1Ghz) shows:
10.3.5 43.0 MB
10.3.5 22.9 MB
Security Update 5.3MB

Is this normal? Which should I choose first? Or should I install all three?

Interesting new feature

I dont have a phone that supports this but over at MobileWhack they noticed this new little tool in the 10.3.5 update.

"Mac OS 10.3.5 has a number of interesting items in it, but one of the most interesting is the built-in Bluetooth Remote Control functionality. Users of Salling Clicker and other applications have been enjoying the cool factor and useful aspects of having a mobile phone act as a remote control as well as other cool tricks."

My ADB keyboard (you know, the good old classic Apple ones) doesn't seem to work anymore.
...
Maybe I can use the Combo updater to reinstall 10.3.5 once it comes out, and I'll keep you updated as to whether my problem is fixed.

Hehe, I reinstalled 10.3.5 and the keyboard works now, false alarm. I did have to re-enable Quartz Extreme on a PCI graphics card though, that setting was reset by the update.

Has anyone else repaired permissions since they installed? I must have have a thousand corrections. Has anyone else had this experience?

You should be repairing your permissions BEFORE and AFTER you do any kind of OS Update. This is why you probably experienced so many repairs. Not repairing permissions before you apply the update is the reason a lot of people experience trouble after applying the update. Then of course, the idiots blame Apple when it was the users fault!

I didn't think you could use an ADB keyboard with Mac OS X. Unless you have the Griffith iMate thingy which converts ADB to USB????

10.3.5 also seems to have made it possible for Safari to now correctly recognize and download files compressed in Aladdin's Stuffit .sitx format. Yay!!!

I waited to see how others faired. Now have downloaded the updates and run the repair permissions utiltiy successfully. Thank you for mentioning this very important part of updating software on Mac OS X. Always good to keep them well managed.

Update seems fine on my 1.5 PowerBook... The SMB shares still go away after my machine wakes from sleep though.

Grr. I'm guess I'm going to have to set up NFS mount points on my Linux server...

Well, truly, you shouldn't have to repair permissions manually at all. Most users probably wouldn't think to, or know how to repair permissions. Thus there should be some sort of automatic permission repairing feature.

Or I could be completely wrong. I haven't installed an OS update yet on my brother's iBook.

Repairing permissions isn't all that necessary. I screw with system files and permissions more then anybody and never have issues.

actually, i run repair permissions after every update, but i got this too (mostly in imovie). but honestly, it seems a bit much to be expected to do this everytime, especially for the casual user.

If apple really wanted it done, you'd think they'd make it officially part of the upgrade process, and have it run automatically.

I'm hoping this release has all sorts of hidden goodies to support the new products at the end of the month.

of course, if it's just a bug release, that's great too. Panther is very solid for me at this point, accept for idisk syncing.
