Well, I just updated to 10.3.8 and it took 8 minutes from download to reboot on my Dual G5 1.8Ghz & DSL modem. Since many people don't have DSL or a G5, I'm assuming it'll take at least 12 minutes average. That means 114.2 years!!! OK. I've had it!

Repair permissions. And stop streaming.... although I'd think about joining you.

Well looks like it is time to kiss my ibook's uptime bye bye.

Uptime: 55 days, 21:29

I haven't restarted once since 10.3.7 update, so its safe to say it was exactly 56 days ago pretty much...

Is this update supposed to fix PCI quartz extreme?

My Uptime (23h GMT): 55 days, 21:35

I updated to 10.3.7 something like five hours after it was released, so it really is pretty much exactly 56 days. According to appleinsider it was released at 21h GMT, 10.3.6 according to my calculations was released around 20.30h GMT as well.

I guess this time, I'll try to beat my personal uptime record of 84 days since it just 30 days more...

I can't install it  .... but there athoner imac g5 siting right next to me and update was flawless... anybody else having trouble installing?

my preview on itunes store is better then normal almost instant BUT i have just noticed that my wifi sig is dipping 1 bar every say 10-15 sec where before i had full sig all over the house ? weird but still works a treat

YES!
On my powerbook this wasn't such a rare occurrence, probably happened 10% of the time. I wonder if it addresses the "shut down while sleeping" issue as well, or if they're related. Sometimes when I sleep my powerbook for a matter of a few hours, on a full battery, I'll open it only to find the computer has shut down. This has happens less than 1% of the time, but still quite annonying if you have a bunch of open work, or any unsaved documents!

My uptime is near 60 days, and I'm a week off from a new personal record (since keeping track). Is this a good reason not to update?

How are you counting uptime? It's not hard to imagine some of you enthusiasts marking it on a calendar, but I suspect there is some other way.

Well it fixed the problem of DVD player showing glitches when navigating through the menus and skipping chapters. It's now rock solid running on Nvidia GeForce 5200.

I have a similar issue with Mail, sometimes when I mouse over one of the buttons in the toolbar, the yellow text starts flickering for about 10 seconds during which I cannot do anything else in Mail.

It seems like I have about ten issues with OS X, and with every update one them get's (almost) fixed. As if even with all 10.3.x updates they manage only to fix about 10% of the (admittedly quite minor) bugs I see. So they would have to put in ten times more effort in bug fixing to fix really all bugs. Or is this to pessimistic a thinking.

Mac OS X tracks it for you. Just launch Terminal (in the utilities folder), type

uptime

and press Return...and Mac OS X tells you how long it's been up!

There are GUI programs that show this information too...I can't think of any off the top of my head though.

There are Konfabulator widgets that do this (that's what I use), there are also stand alone apps, or you can into the terminal and type a command I can't remember off hand (but I'm sure another member will ;)) that will give you the uptime since your computer was last shut down. Interestingly enough Logging out of an account doesn't effect uptime, so I often times use this instead of a full shut down.

What does a shut down do for a computer (in regards to the OS and software) that restarting the Finder, or logging out and back into an account doesn't achieve?

Easiest way: type 'uptime' into the terminal

Update went fine here. No noticeable changes. I also ran WoW, but performance seems to be exactly the same as before (read: 10-15fps outdoors on lowest clipping plane). My specs are in my sig.

hooray! i don't know that this was all that *rare*, Apple (at least for me).

Problem no 1 may not be solved

I just downloaded the update and installed - no probs. Then I removed the DNS fix to the number 1 problem. Mail took ages to start, replacing the DNS entries made it start immediately.

Not enough time to test fully now but would be interested in any feedback.

Smooth

Updated my 867Mhz 12" PowerBook and all is well. No apparent differences, but no obvious problems either. I used the combo updater, just for the heck of it.
My new uptime is 14M 28S according to Terminal.app!

Resolves an issue on certain Power Mac G5 computers where a fan cycles erratically at unexpected times, such as when Seti@home software is running.

Hmmm... it seems to have introduced this issue on my PM G5. I have never had any unusual fan behavior for a long time (since 10.2.x).
But now with 10.3.8 it will suddenly rev up very high with no apparent provacation for about 10-20s and then fall down again.

I have the original 2003 dual 2.0 model.

Its really funny to me that WoW is big enough that there's an OS update which specifically mentions improving performance on that one game as an addressed issue. Lalalala, that's random. But it made me smile, even though I don't play Warcraft.

Steve should give that entire blizzard dev team that wrote WoW for the Mac Platform the first dual G5 3.0GHz with the xt800 standard and TIger off the line the week before they ship for releasing WoW that was PC and Mac co-existing.

I'm not much of a gamer, and I bought WoW on a whim because my brother was getting it on his PC. Then when we were able to meet in the battlefield and neither one of us could tell who was on a mac or PC I was an avid blizzard worshiper after that.

Proof that SOE was full of crap when they said Everquest needed it's own server.

Thanks for all the replies. I generally avoid Terminal, but sometime I should look for a "Terminal for Beginners" book, or something. (So I can look up things like what "load averages" mean)

I restarted two days and four minutes ago so that I could monitor my memory pageouts more easily. I don't think there is another way to reset this.

Lol, good, but it's not like it would take much to "improve" it, it was pretty crappy.
When they said "improves performance of" what they really meant was "makes it work." It looks gorgeous now, just like on my PC (like it's supposed to).
