The size reported in this article is wrong. The version of OS X 10.3.8 that I downloaded via software update was 16.4 megs, not 27+.

My download was 27 megs.

Apple stated that the size of your download will vary depending on what you are using.

I used Software Update to just download the package on my PMG5 and got the 27.whatever meg file. Installed fine on my iBook G3, about to install on my PMG5

Intall successful. Mail definitely feels snappier.

cheers

Ditto here, too. Mail is snappier. FCP HD opens faster. Both Netscape and Firefox seem quicker though that may be due to less traffic on.

Downloaded about an hour ago, everythings OK so far although the fans on my G5 seem alittle excited at times. I don't know maybe it's just me.

No it's not just you, this has happened to me since 10.3.8 also. Not present on 10.3.7, 10.3.6, 10.3.5...

Do you have a problem with fans?

None so far, I am folding, browsing, listing to the radio online, and downloading some stuff. Pages is up in the background.

Only noobs seem to be having these problems

Addresses an issue in which a PowerBook G4 computer would, on rare occasion, wake from sleep with a black screen and not respond to any keyboard, mouse, or trackpad input.
Addresses "jumping cursor" issues that might occur when using your portable computer's trackpad with your thumb, side of thumb, or a "flat" finger.

Thank you Apple! :D

If anyone's curious as to why some downloads are 27 MB and others 14.6 MB, it's because of the security updates. If you've installed all security updates prior to the release of 10.3.8, you get the 14.6 MB download. If you haven't, you get the 27 MB download. If you were running Mac OS X 10.3.0 to 10.3.6, you get a 96 MB download.

At least that's how I THINK it works...

..."number" update before Tiger. We'll have to see if anything gets seeded to the developers in the next month or so. I'll be sad to see Panther go, it has been really good to me, but the prospect of Tiger being that much closer is exciting.

Doesn't look like this update did anything for Dual-Layer DVD support with disc burning - If I had to guess, I'd say that native support for dual-layer drives will only come with 10.4... I've been holding off on installing PatchBurn to see if this feature will get added, but alas, looks like it's time to install...

Maybe it's just been my ignorance or lack thereof, but is it possible to 'enable' Dual-Layer DVD support? In essence, with the SuperDrive on my eMac, which is only Single-Layer burning, will I be able to burn Dual-Layer DVDs with a software update? If it could be done it'd be SWEET! (cue Napoleon D.), but somehow this seems a little fishy...

Anbody???

nope , i imstalled all of them and i am still at 27

Why is that these Mac OS X "upgrades" tend to hinder performance of my iBook G4?

If there is going to be a 10.3.9 update then I hope that they finally get everything right, where it will actually improve performance. I think Apple did not thoroughly test 10.3.8, it's only been about a month and a half since 10.3.7.

Aaarrgghhh! This Sucks!

iMac g5 working fine, now i will dl on the iBook g4 and we will see, let you know later

It is also happening to me. My fans will occasionally sound like my G5 is preparing for take off.

Yes, since updating to 10.3.8, my G5 Dual 1.8 has been acting up. It will start going at a fast pace for maybe 3 seconds. It's only happened 3 times, but I don't like it.

What's up?

I downloaded the OSXComboUpdate10.3.8 for future need. It was actually 99.2 MB's thought it showed like 101 MB's. I then chose SoftwareUpdate, downloaded and installed the Delta Update of 27.7 MB's because SU presented that as what my OS required. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300569
Those were the only two I noticed which were made available.
