google maps still crashes safari when scrolling around. i like google maps, i'm mad this wasnt fixed.

Does it happen regularly and easily or only after a lot of scrolling? I just tried a bit and scrolled maps and sat views with no crashes...

problem: Mail.app rules won't edit.

After 10.4.3 update, I notice I can no longer edit my Mail.app rules. The rules window opens, but the rules don't open to inspect or edit.

Anyone else to verify? (Thanks.)

Updated permissions on my powerbook and it found 2 files that needed repairing. I'll do the same on my powermac as soon as a DVD finishes burning.

Overall, it does seem snappier. Spotlight's faster, Finder's a bit quicker. Haven't tried Safari as I use Camino, but may give Safari a shot now if it's better since Camino is slightly buggy.

This should have been 10.4.0.....

Anybody know yet why it's coming in at two different sizes? Mines 97 MB while I've heard others say theirs is only 53 MB.

From www.macintouch.com

"Apple released the Mac OS X 10.4.3 (Delta) update for 10.4.2 and 10.4.3 Combo update for any 10.4 version"

The smaller version is probably Delta and the bigger version is the updater for other than 10.4.2.

PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz 12" 768MB 60GB Rev. D.

Initial restart time (chime to login screen) 109 Mississippis
Permissions repaired quickly.
Second restart time (chime to login screen) 49 Mississippis

And I'm a Northerner, so I probably say Mississippi a lot faster than those of you who are from there. ;)

Oh yeah, and I see no issues yet.

I am not sure what is with this file size difference because I have a fully updated PB15" and I have 97MB to download so it is definately not because you are going from 10.4.1 rather than 10.4.2. Not sure... maybe we should plot which systems are doing what... I will start..

1.67 PB 15"
Mac OS X 10.4.2 (8C46)

Strange... My G5 DP 2.7 was 56.8MB...
and my identical G5 DP 2.7 is 97MB...

Haha, I guess I am just an upgrade junkie. I couldn't live without some of the Tiger features... lucky me I have a fast connection down here in México or else I'd cry now... :D

Ahem, and just when exactly did you end up in Mexico? And furthermore, did you get hit by the hurricanes at all? Come overt to Hawaii, that's where I'll be in a couple weeks.

Yeah, I'm definitely not an upgrade junkie - too practical for my own good, I guess. If I see a lot of value in the upgrade for my personal needs, then yes, I will (i.e.e getting Toast 7), but otherwise I'll just stick with what I have, like Office X for my word processing/spreadsheet needs (no need for 2004) and Final Draft 6 for my screenwriting needs (no need for 7 or AV).

I'm not too sure whats up with sizes, but I downloaded the 97 meg update from Apple's site and it worked on both my PowerMac and PowerBook. Hopefully it will work on my parent's Mac Mini, I'll find out Friday when I go home.

Safari Speed Greatly Improved

Downloaded 97mb on iMac G5 (rev b). Download took approx
1 minute (cable). Repaired permissions once before download
and twice afterward. Start-up in seven spins (30 secs)
Safari speed is significantly improved!!! Front Row
still works. Update soon:)

Mine loaded into 'Darwin' on reboot...

Still seems to be working now, and no, frontrow don't work.

-Safari = if you open a link in a new tab it doesn't activate the tab, it just loads the page behind it. I think thats new...but i'm not sure

Pretty sure that is a preference in Safari

Also thought I would note that my PB G4 12" got the 97mb version. I had a fully updated version of 10.4.2 before the update

I don't have the Xkeys part installed. And my Front Row won't start any more. Bummer. Anyone know where the fix may surface?:(

Sounds to me as though it's been fixed, thankfully. :)

Two machines working fine with the update...so far.

It's a preference in Safari to switch to the new tab when opened. Go to Safari > Preferences > Tabs and check "Select new tabs as they are created".

Just 10 secs to boot on my dual 2GHz - and Wow!! every problem i had since 10.4 has been fixed. No more Spotlight spinning balls and no more dead keyboard on every startup! :)

btw - i tried to Verify my startup disk with Disk Utility and it froze my mac (not kernel panic) and i had to hard reset. Is this a bad sign for my disk??

Apple still hasn't fixed the issue where, when you use the Terminal to tell the Finder to show all files, including invisible ones (easy to do on Windows!), *all* files dim to half-opacity, instead of just the invisible ones. Try this in icon- or column-view mode (looks as though list-view shows them normally).

Panther did not have this problem. Turning off the setting restores all files to full opacity. This is rather off-putting, from an I-want-to-be-a-geek-but-I-still-want-to-use-the-GUI standpoint--I should be allowed to know what's on my machine without having to squint to make out the icons.

Disables Quartz 2D Extreme—Quartz 2D Extreme is not a supported feature in Tiger, and re-enabling it may lead to video redraw issues or kernel panics.

Opinions?
for me, enabling Quartz 2D leads to issues redrawing certian pdf files when not viewed at 100% (lots of black boxes where equations should be). seems fair enough to make "off" the default. if you want it, you know how to turn it back on

-Image previews as thumbnails in finder = SO MUCH FASTER! Images literally are loading 2-3 times faster than they were in 10.4.2 and! this is with RAW support too. And this is with 200+ NEF/RAW files per folder.

-Black border with NEF- This is finally fixed in both iPhoto and Preview.
.....

WOW, you are so right, this so fast now, even on mine 4200RPM drive :D

Took about 3(97mb) mins to download on my 1.8Ghz PM(we have 5 computers on 1 5 meg connection). I hope this fixes the bug where it crashes after 2 hours of use and opening a movie in full screen.

Thank You For Teaching Me AppleScript for Front Row

Okay Fully fixed!

There was never a problem with the front row application it still launches when holding esc. It appears Apple updated applescript. The old applescript launcher I was using was broken.

Use the following code in Script Editor, compile then save as an application bundle and you are golden.

tell application "Front Row"
activate
tell application "System Events" to key code 53
end tell
I have never written an Applescript before. Never run that application before. And your instructions were so spot on it worked the first time I tried it. Thank you very much.
:p :p

The login window shows more options now, mainly network ones, when you click on the text under "Mac OSX".

My reboot from a combo update took 2:40 on my iMac.

The Widget Manager still doesn't load for me. And thankfully, Spotlight is much faster.

Ah yes! I didn't notice this before, but now that I looked into my pictures folder it's going so much faster. Before, image previews weren't even showing up.
