Yeh, pretty good - Mac's feel a bit quicker.

Automator users beware - this update rendered one of my Automator scripts inoperative. I re-installed a copy of the older Automator program from another Mac and the problem still exists. I think this update has done something to the filesystem...

I only have a dialup connection, and the download will take about 6 hrs!!!!

if thats not bad enough, my ISP resets my connection after 5hrs, so i have no way of d/l the update!!!!

I have tried (twice!!!) allready, downloading part of the file then pausing the d/l restarting my internet connection, but Safari seems to like restarting the d/l all over!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can someone please post a torrent, or put the file up on limewire, or somewhere, so i can get this update......

thanks.

Speed download? Or a free download resumer? I thought if you quit safari, then double clicked on the desktop icon it would resume... sometimes...

See to "Mail Tags" bundle. Remove it and Rules work.

I have had huge problems with Mail.app since this upgrade. Rules just _do not work_ at all. The old rules I had tons of problems with, and I trashed ~/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist and the rules didn't go away. Additionally I have had huge problems with Mail.app after - Adding new rules _seems_ to work, BUT then they won't execute, and I can't close the preference window, and Mail.app needs to be force quitted instead of regular quit, etc.

DJ:

I had the same symptoms. If you are using the "Mail Tags" 3P add-on for Mail.app, try removing it and check whether rules then work. Apparently 10.4.3 upgrade broke "Mail Tags". Mail.app "Act-On" (3P bundle by same outfit as Mail Tags) seems to work OK even after upgrade (once Mail Tags is uninstalled).

Good luck,

Memory stick problems

After updating to 10.4.3, my Mac seems to treat Memory Sticks differently. They show up with an Hard Disk icon instead of the white one. Worse of all, it no longer opens iPhoto automatically to import pictures. Any ideas?

The memory management in OS X seems (more) streamlined. I'm checking in with my SysStat and am noticing better memory swap and more consistent free ram.

When I'm running the standard bunch of apps (Safari, Mail, Adium, iTunes), free RAM tends to deplete over a period of time (even with 1.5 GB of RAM). Now, RAM is consistently freeing itself up in proportion to my usage. I close a window or a program, more of the RAM goes back into free RAM status.

This could just be my own false conclusions, but this is what I notice.

I have yet to try any bittorrent clients to see if RAM usage improves in that cateogry as well.

my ibook is really responsive with the update. prior to the update, things were really sluggish, even with 1.2GB of ram...now, apps open and close very quickly, safari's tabs select and load instantaneously, just one or two bounces for most apps. after a few initial hiccups when i first installed, things seem pretty good.

Safari still doesn't work with my online college site (University of Maryland University Campus http://webtycho.umuc.edu). Sits there trying to login but never does. Mozilla, Netscape, Firefox, and Opera all work, however.

Yup, me too. It worked fine in 10.3.9, but no more :( I find that firefox works, but not the Java part, and I tried the beta 1.5, but it just hangs the app.

is iphoto faster for any of you?

also, in iphoto when you select "red eye" or "retouch", there's a little green dot to let you know that you've selected one of those. is that new or has that always been there? i usually use PS to edit pix but that feature struck me as being new...maybe not.

all good so far but...

Had minor issue with kensington keyboard & RF mouse but all good after a reboot hoping this fixes random crashes in my brand new PB

System Freezes, one per core.

I got a total freeze twice (greyed screen) while loading the Finder, post-installation. Made me very nervous. Third time was a charm though. PM DualCore 2. FireFox 1.5 for me was no problem. Overall things seem very zippy, more than before, esp. Safari, unless it's my hopeful imagination.

wow!

this is incredible. i got an absolutely unambiguous, massive speed/responsiveness boost on my PB G4 1.33 GHz. far more noticeable than any update i can remember--far more impressive than 10.3.9 to 10.4. what's the deal? color me happy. whatever it is they did, i like it. windows and apps fly open like bats out of hell, and go away nearly instantly when closed or quit; even scrolling in safari is much much faster.

perhaps this means there was something clogging my system that my normal maintenance wasn't dislodging.

anyway, no problems to report... which makes me breathe a sigh of relief since i completely forgot to disconnect my external firewire drive before updating: you know, the i felt so responsible about backing up onto before starting the update.

Edit: this is weird tho.... it seems my bluetooth icon has been removed from the silver bar on the top...no clear way to get it back... not a huge deal but i liked knowing if i had bluetooth on or if a device had connected. Weird

Try System Preferences > Bluetooth > Settings > Show Bluetooth Status in the Menu Bar Toggle. I've found in the past the icon can disappear. A double Toggle makes it reappear. - but it works!

Benchmark!

Before instalation 53.5 ...after instalation 63.4...dont know if this is relavent but seems faster!

97MB for me.

I live in Shanghai and I'm getting only a 6-minute download.

Guess there isn't too much demand in China. :)

No problems here on an iMac G5 2.0 Ghz RevB and a PB G4 1.67, besides the fact that Saft and PithHelmet don't work. Hopefully they will get updates soon.

there's already an update for 10.4.3. check versiontracker.

Did anyone's iTunes lose authorisations after updating to 10.4.3? I can't be certain 10.4.3 did it but I went to buy a song from the Music Store this morning, it downloaded and I double clicked to play it and I got a not authorised message. Double clicked on a song I had for months and same thing. Once I authorised again it's all working fine.

Could have sworn all iTunes files were working OK last night so it probably wasn't the 6.0.1 update.

Anyway it's sorted now but weird.

I am having this same exact problem with Safari for 10.4.3. Every single page with flash is shifted down a certain number of pixels and doesn't fuction properly. THis problem was not present in 10.4.2. I hope a bunch of people are experiencing this problem since my own site uses flash and it no longer works properly in Safari. And no - my code is fine - all sites with flash have this problem.

Some people in this thread have said that re-installing flash 8 fixed things for them - so you could try that. In my case, Flash seems to be working just fine.

no problem for me.

I installed it...and at first all seemed good. But now I've had it fail to shut down (waited 5 minutes after requesting a shutdown, then had to manually power it down). Another time it failed to wake up from a sleep (screen came up, could move mouse around, but I couldn't click on anything). And now the screen just went black, and I can't get it to come back. The machine is still turned on (I know because I'm currently copying a file to it).

And I only installed it this morning?

I have a powerbook 15", the one before the current version...anyone else having any problems?

Is there a way to roll back the updates (dare I say it) like windows XP can do?

I envy all of you with super-fast internet connections, it took me about an hour to d/l the update with 256k broadband.

As many others have commented, everything seems snappier and more responsive :)

My Front Row hack no longer works, but it was buggy anyway.

Good update as far as I'm concerned!
