Size Difference

Wow, on my Intel iMac's Software Update it says "Mac OS X Update (Intel), Version: 10.4.5, Size: 40.6mb". But, on my PowerPC PowerBook Software Update it says "Mac OS X Update (PowerPC), Version: 10.4.5, Size: 6.4mb"

The Intel version has more of an update heh.

Odd eh? Will post pics soon...

Not odd...lots more changes for Intel than for PPC. Serious Rosetta updates inside.

Oh...Well I expected that sort of. My iMac is up and running and is fine. I didn't see Rosetta listed under the updates...hmm

No surprises. The Intel 10.4.4 is the first public release of that version. I reckon it's release today bodes well for MBP shipments.

thats good. the only thing is that it stinks for those people who bought the macbook pro with the highest specs, and then find out now that there is a 2.16 gHz ..

whatever. that is really cool though.

Yep, pretty much what I expected. A massive update for the Intel OS X, as expected, its first public release has caused a few bugs to be found, necessitating a quick 10.4.5 fix before the MacBooks ship.

The PPC version of 10.4.5 is simply some incremental fixes tossed out to keep version parity between a Intel and PPC versions of OSX.

I wouldn't be suprised to see 10.4.6 in another month, with the same story.

With the suddenness and smallness of this update I suspect it's just to PO the guys doing the 10.4.4 on PC business...

I wonder if Apple will ever pull the plug on updates for PPC eventually. Perhaps in 5 years, 10.7.8 is only released for Intel 64bit only going forward. You never know, it could happen like that.

I'm having issues with the new update

My Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard do not work anymore. The driver still recognizes that they are there, but it is not working. Trying the demo of USB Overdrive, it is not doing the trick either. Be careful with the update, it may do the same to others with these accessories.

Mandated changes in algorithms help keep us programmers employed. Somebody in Apple got paid to adjust the code to match current law.

Just out of curiosity, did Microsoft already release patches for these DST changes for the various versions of Windows?
I changed the date and time to test this out on my XP machine with all available updates applied, and no, the old rules still apply.

Fans

Some weird fan activity in the startup just after the update - but the Dual 2.0 G5 has been fine since! :)

Keep the PPC updates coming till.....FOREVER! :)

Five years may be an unacceptably short time table for some owners. My boss still uses his 400mhz sawtooth (from 1999).

Funny... About This Mac reports that I'm running 10.4.5 even before I restarted, even before Software Update is finished...

Same here... maybe the update just kills the maxxus x86 patch:eek:

Did the update...
Fixed the tearing issues in Front Row... Nice... :)

only problem... everything works but itunes through front row... wont play any music... just sits there when i choose a song...

Also...
