Odd, my fan has kicked in, really loud. My GPU ran at 85c on average, CPU about 65c, HDD 55c but now everything is running lower because the fan has kicked in. GPU is at 57c, CPU 56c, HDD 47c. Has this update fixed my fan or something? i have never heard it in my life, even at 85c, it never kicks on. Now, i cant hear it, and my temps are much better. I will report and see if they go back up

Also...

Why does the update say (delta)?

Because of a misguided belief that 10.4.9 must come out and must be the last update.

Updates could end here at 10.4.7 or continue to 10.4.36. There is no reason they must end at 10.4.9.

While that may be true, if memory serves they always have ended at 10.x.9

Looks as if it is only available on the new laptops. I downloaded the update onto my powerbook, and sure enough, no double click feature. I'm officially mad.

Can anyone confirm if this is available on powerbooks?

Or is it just macbooks/macbook pros?

Thanks - Sean

You can, it's called Ctrl+Click or spend $1099 on a MacBook ;).

Well, those aren't the only options! :)

This is what I'm currently using on my PB to avoid using that pesky control key: One Finger Snap

Like Apple says on their update site the delta is for people running an immediate version like 10.4.6 only. The Combo is for people running 10.4.0-10.4.6.

I'm back up and running...reboot took four minutes on my 1.67 GHz PB. A little bit of concern about the length of time it spent on the blue screen, but the desktop eventually came up.

System updates usually trigger driver cache rebuilds and other such things. A long startup after an update is expected.

Two Points to go

Only two points to go before Leapord! Can't wait. I think they will ship this year.

I'm loathe to install this. My macbook is finally running silently and happily (though with a "hack'), and I don't really want to screw that up unless someone confirms that this includes a firmware update that will fix the mooing.

Please stop saying things like this...ugh.

I didn't have one. I had a normal installation. :) Very fast too. This clicking thing is awesome, but a little difficult. I tend to tap after ending of scrolling so this takes some work getting used to.

Now if they can get it to do that in Windows. :D

As I noted earlier, if this hack is a third party you may want to be careful if you go through with the update.

You may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications installed, or if you've modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)

Edit: Couldn't you just update then reinstall/download the hack again?

How do I do the right click thing?

Do the update and go to system preferences and then mouse & keyboards & then go to trackpad and check the thingy that says 2 finger right click.

Dead MacBook

Hi all,

I ran Software Update as normal, had a 133MB download, and after downloading it gave me an error about installing, something about being unable to open the archive. I thought that was strange so tried to download it again and got the same error. Then I closed software update. I tried opening software update again, and the System Preferences icon would bounce once and then nothing would happen. I tried logging out of my account to see if logging back in would help, but it sat there at the blue screen with a spinner. I got tired of waiting and tried to reboot, and it sits there at the grey screen with the Apple logo and a spinner.

Pretty weird! Gonna have to fix it when I get home from work and get at my install disc. Hope this didn't happen to anyone else.

Can anyone with a MacBook tell if the kernel panics upon unplugging the headphones has been fixed?
