It took you 13 minutes to post it?

You need to type faster if you're going to keep with the forums on the day of a new release!! :D

yeah that's another issue I need to sort. but mostly the delay was remembering where I read that really good 'lay the bugger to rest once and for all' article so I could link to it in a big smug git of a post and at the expense of amacgenius, (who was really only trying to be polite and considerate) sit back and admire my handywork.

That's what happens when you mess with this karma stuff. Don't meddle with things you don't understand... and ...leave yer permissions alone, otherwise the wind could change and you'll be stuck like that.

How do I do the right click thing?

Go into System Prefs, then Mouse and Keyboard, then you'll see the following:

Then make sure the following is checked:

Then enjoy.

Can anyone with a MacBook tell if the kernel panics upon unplugging the headphones has been fixed?

Hmm. I've never heard of that one, I plugin my speakers/headphones everyday with no problems ever since I got my MacBook.

Hew, does the update let me heal the blind and feed the hungry with my PowerMac? :D

With your PowerMac? Absolutely...it's the most powerful one on Earth.

See I knew it was Daring Fireball so just googled for 'repair permissions software update' and it was the first two results up.. ;)

10.4.7 installed, and all is well.

Two-finger right-click on my early(ish) MBP working nicely.

Off to check for any updated version of Saft for the new Safari. If it's still too soon, I'll do the ol' hack to Saft to tweak its version recognition.

wheeeeeeeee!

I didn't have one. I had a normal installation. :) Very fast too. This clicking thing is awesome, but a little difficult. I tend to tap after ending of scrolling so this takes some work getting used to.

Now if they can get it to do that in Windows. :D

They can: it works perfectly in Parallels :)

Updated, no obvious changes.

Startup took significantly longer than usual, on all machines, but subsequent restarts are as fast as they were under 10.4.6. No major changes, as far as I can tell. No speed improvements, nothing.

Oooh, let's see if they fixed the 'usb-device-in-expresscard-slot-prevents-sleep' issue! Nope. Still wakes right back up, complaining that I removed the device.

Oh well, nothing obvious to me so far. I'll report back in a couple days.

DF rocks!

A tranquil river of level-headedness in the turbulent waters of Mac-dom.

(JG's just got his next batch of DF t-shirts in. woohoo!)

I'm still investigating a bit but I can't seem to play Quicktime Trailers from Apple's web site. I tried to play both the 1080i HD and Large format trailers of Spider Man 3. I also tried a few other older trailers I know I had watched after clearing my cache. It locked up my computer all times I tried. I couldn't even bring up the force quit menu although I didn't have a kernel panic.

Quicktime itself launches fine (7.newest decimal) and I can play movie trailers in iTunes from the store. This leads me to believe it's Safari and not Quicktime. I have Pith Helmet installed but it currently disables itself at launch since it doesn't recognize the new version of Safari.

Not a huge deal but just wondering if anybody else has encountered this.

iMac Core Duo 2.0 with 2GB of RAM, 256 MB Video RAM.

Edit: Hrmph. Just tried it on my Powerbook 1.5ghz and it played the trailer just fine post update. Must be a "me" problem then. Maybe I'll try the combo updater...

As I noted earlier, if this hack is a third party you may want to be careful if you go through with the update.

Edit: Couldn't you just update then reinstall/download the hack again?

yeah... but why? what exactly is this update doing for me? And why risk the possibility that apple somehow "broke" the hack (as has happened before)?

One can scroll up and down and sideways with two fingers also.

As an addendum. For those that are doing the dual-boot thing there might be problems so watch out!!

You could always two-finger scroll on the MacBook Pro, it was the two-finger click that wasn't present until the later MacBook Pro and the 'just plain' MacBook. (Heck, two-finger scroll was present as early as the rev.c Aluminum PowerBook G4s, and could even be hacked in to the rev.b's.)

No problems with Boot Camp.

Again, can anyone please check whether mail.app hides on start-up now?

Nope, comes up big. (iChat doesn't hide, either.)

First Impressions

I'm the owner of a white macbook with 2GB of RAM,

The update ran perfectly, took longer to reboot as always..

First the bad news,

the whine is still there, and I can hear it even after starting Photobooth (which used to fixed the issue before), but it now sounds like something's frying inside the AC.

Now the good ones:

I used to have kernel panics 50% of the time I unplugged the speakers from the machine, after the update I tried to plug/unplug them several times and no problems at all!

The dock isn't magnifying itself anymore, even though it works, if I pass the mouse over it the icons don't zoom anymore, but everything else in the dock works fine (trying to -move- the icon around the dock actually does the trick).

UPDATE: The dock works fine again after a second restart

Only 39.4 MB on my 12" 1.33 GHz PowerBook. The restart didn't seem to take too long either. I'm doing work on my iMac right now, so I'll wait until this evening to update it.

First of all thx a lot for checking guys. :)

Second, WTF APPLE? Is it that f***** hard to fix a glitch like that after 7!!!!!!!!!! f***** revisions? After I have sent in like a gazillion bug reports regarding that issue? Damn it, I'm losing faith here.

Oh dear. Mail on my iMac no longer seems to be able to connect to my IMAP account. I wonder what it has messed up.
