Is that during the shutdown just after the update's installed and downloaded?

This has happened to me a couple of times over the years too. Usually I'm really not patient enough to wait even 10mins, let alone 1/2 hour! I'd just hold the power button down until it powers off, then start it back up. Don't get scared during the long pause at the grey Apple logo at startup... now that's a really bad time to force a power-off, because it's at that point that the new files are being installed.
I think it was during shutdown...I just held the power button down no and am starting it up. Hopefully I didnt mess anything up.
Thanks for the advice!

2 finger thingy

update went fine on my 12" PB, 1GHz, 1,256 Gig RAM, 100 Gig HD

transparentdock doesn't work anymore. guess 10.4.6 was just luck...

for all those disappointed pb and ibook users who want that "2 finger rightclick" feature:

iScroll2

it also includes the "2 finger scroll" feature

Ah, it'll be fine!

(five years on a Mac, and not a single forced reinstall due to OS bustage)

... I think I might be tempting fate :D

What do you use to make your dock transparent? I use ClearDock and its working without any problems.

Woohoo!

I'm probably the only one who cares, but Inkwell works in Firefox!

And I can finally use my Wacom tablet w/Spotlight!

EDIT: Never mind; my tablet works with the Spotlight window about 5% of the time. Ugh. Not much better than 0%.

Err. That doesn't usually happen....

Let us know how it goes :O
I gave it the standard info and then it says there was an error in attempting to setup my dotmac account. I ALREADY HAVE A DOT MAC...Weird!!

Everything seems to be ok though about this mac says 10.4.7...etc.

Anything else I should check?

I understand the repairing permissions thing now, but do you think downloading the combo updater is better than simply using Software Update?

I know some people do but it sounds like more voodoo to me.

Cool. I was thinking of picking up an el-cheapo wacom tablet from eBay. I'm no artiste, so it'd be mainly for novelty value... good to hear it's actively being improved in OS X point-releases.

I have always used software update and never had any problems. Except with 10.4.5 which sort of ruined my Finder and iPod updater... but all is well at the mo

*phew!*

Glad to hear it looks OK. At the back of my mind, I seem to remember Setup Assistant re-running for some users occasionally after updates, but I've not heard of it for a few years... possibly not since 10.2 or early 10.3.

Although I don't place much stock in running Repair Permissions as a part of regular maintenance, if I were you I'd probably give it a run in your situation... just to tidy up any loose ends. What does everyone else think?

Installed the update.. although had to do the download manually.. oddly enough it didn't appear in my Software Update (?)... but anyway, that aside.. surprised the macbook moo hasn't been solved - checked Software Update following install of the update, and no firmware/fix has been listed as of yet - guess we'll have to wait.

How's the update handling on other Macbook's?

You never know. I figure the Combo is checking moe stuff. But I have no idea really. It's just as easy to run the Combo as it is the incremental so why take the risk the incremental will overlook something not included in it?

After 2 reboots beyond the install I report the Quad takes 25 seconds to go from restart to tone and another 1 minute 5 seconds back to the desktop.

I'd hold off to see if your Mac's behaving itself properly, and also to give others on the forum to chime in with their opinions. But should you want to, run Disk Utility from /Applications/Utilities. Then, highlight your startup volume in the left pane. You'll see a Verify Disk Permissions button, which will scan the volume's permissions for discrepancies, but not actually modify anything. Repair Disk Permissions will actually 'correct' those discrepances.

Might be worth doing the 'Verify' just to see what it comes back with.
