They should not have released an OS prematurely, but they did. Um, I don't think my APPLE PASSWORD MANAGER that keeps popping up with an error is a 3rd party app...next?

Oh, and Leopard didn't cause a fraction of these issues for me, nor are the apps I am having issues with listed. Sorry that I trusted Apple to be as awesome as they claim to be in those self-indulgent ads which are somewhat like their worshippers here.

So wait, your password manager is the only Apple related issue and you scream that Snow Leopard is a failure when so many others are having very positive experiences ?

For your information, Xtorrent is known to work, maybe you just don't have the latest version, did you even try downloading a newer version and see if that works ? For Maya, did you bother to look at compatibility information ?

Again, what is stopping you from either trying a clean install of Snow Leopard to see if your issues are upgrade related or just going back to Leopard and waiting ?

If you can't live with a few incompatibilities and bugs, don't upgrade to just released software. The testing process of software on the complexity level of an OS can never trap all bugs. There are just to many variables and different configurations out there. This is the exact reason why IT departments don't just upgrade on day 1.

Consider this a lesson learned. At least you won't have to pay for Snow Leopard later when your issues are resolved.

Snow Leopard screwed up:

Maya 2008 and 2009 - shaders and manipulators are the same color -- one shade at a time.

XTorrent no longer works, killing my 90% downloaded item that took about 2 weeks to download

NOTHING (I've tried so far) INSTALLS - Beware of this! I installed drivers for my 3DConexion mouse and a new ON DSLR software driver. They start, then when you click Install, nothing happens!!

The Invalid Password keeps popping up!!

Snow Leopard is NOT worth it. I am livid. Apple is no better than Windows to me right now by releasing this super buggy software prematurely.

How can I revert to Leopard? If I can't, I'll have to use Maya on my MBP instead of my dual monitor Mac Pro with more power and of course a better experience. This sucks royally, and I hate that I trusted Apple and upgraded. I hope that they have an update by Monday.

Whoa after all this time how I've been listening to iTunes.

Never knew about this neat little plugin. Amazing how nice iTunes now sounds.

Yup! I got the upgraded iWow and now I get to get drowned in sound again!:D

I expected more, and unless I can revert back to OS 10.5, I'm screwed and will have to use Maya on a laptop.

Again, why is this even a question ? Pop in Leopard CD, do a erase and install. Boom, 10.5 is back.

You're blowing all of this out of proportion. OS upgrades are major, and no matter who your OS vendor, never upgrade on day 1 unless you have assurance that everything you need will work. This is why there's HCLs and SCLs.

We're still running a 1999 version of HP-UX at work because it just works. 2 versions behind the current shipping one. HP-UX is not Windows nor is it even close to it.

Ok??? looks like thing have been heated in here... I have a fairly simple question. Can I use bootcamp to install snow leopard and keep leopard on a partition? I have some software that may not work with SL but would like to have it...

What positive experiences?? From the loooong list of bugs people are reporting? I think most of the positives are people who haven't used it yet.

And the passwords bug may not be the ONLY non-3rd party app issue. Oh, and how can I install an update to XTorrent when SL has so far not allowed any installations?

No one articulated that earlier. I'll try that, but I read posts (to others with similar regrets) that suggested not reverting an OS.

No installations ? What are you talking about ? Maybe your "APPLE PASSWORD MANAGER" bug is actually that your admin password has changed (or you changed it). That would explain at least these 2 issues. With a working admin password, this crap would go away.

Again, nothing a erase and install won't fix. How bout you try it ?

Erase and install isn't reverting. You're basically just erasing everything and starting over with a blank slate. You could install about any version like that.

Make sure you have a good backup of any data and 3rd party application licenses/install media.

mine says shipped on 27th. its already the 29th. UTD orders seem pretty screwed up

and mine says shipped using singpost, and i cant seem to find the tracking number on the site/in the email. any chance they are 'shipping' by snail mail????:mad:

In the US it is regular US postal. Even though I had an Apple rep tell me UTD would be delivered on the 28th there is no way it would happen shipping on the 27th via regular US post. Apple created two class of customers, those that paid "full price" and those that paid a discount. Discount customers can wait apparently.

A couple other things you could try:

1) install Leopard 10.5 on a second Hard drive (if it's a desktop then an internal one, if not then an external drive; I suggest FW800 or ESATA) and boot from the second drive when you need to.

2) make a second partition and install leopard 10.5 there.

to see all bootable volumes hold the option key down while your computer starts up, or use the "Start up Disk" preference pane in System preferences.

Upgrading OS's is always a bumpy ride, there's a reason many companies are still planning on using Win XP even after Win 7 is released. And some mac Shops are still on Tiger. OS's always take a bit to refine, I agree it would be nice if they had worked out some more kinks, or given Devs a better chance to get stuff patched before release, but that's kinda the way it goes.

Best of luck to you.

P.S. thought I'd do a quick shout out to My wife and say I love ya dear and happy 5 Month Anniversary.

Received my copy today after ordering from the Apple Store online. Fedex arrived at around 01:54 PM.
I thought I was not going to be able to resist the urge to install it right away, but I'm waiting a day or two to install. I don't like to do "upgrades", but rather clean installations.

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

Locate:

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string></string>

Change it to:

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>arch=x86_64</string>

Can anybody tell how I can see which kernel I'm running currently? The 32bit or the 64bit one?
thanks!

New HDD

Hi all, I recently purchased a new seagate 500gb 7k HDD for my mbp core duo (2008), my plan is to get a copy of SL (upgrade-but full version :p) and start fresh from the new drive. Following that, to use an enclosure to connect the old drive and copy back important stuff such as Address book, iCal, email etc!

I do have a copy of leopard already, but does it seem possible to straight to SL on the new clean drive without ever installing 10.5? And then is my old drive accessable via USB or fw400?

Thanks

Just like, Windows 7?

No - I still don't worry about viruses and now I don't have to deal with Outlook or Entourage...

Oh - and my User folder goes to a real folder location on my drive - not some made up "library" virtual folder that the OS has to have overhead maintaining and forces the user into instead of the smart folder OSX has had since 10.4.

Poor windoze user - is it that bad that you just need to have something to do with a Mac so you post here?

Cool, I get my Snow Leopard Monday! I checked my UPS tracking number and it came in tonight so it should be delivered Monday afternoon. :D

Read this article about 64bit OSX : http://www.9to5mac.com/snow-leopard-64-bit-32-bit-firmware-efi

It's another reason why, people like me, with 32bit EFI, might as well wait.... or not buy at all. I took one for the team :D

64bit drivers [Kexts] will slowly be coming out and we get stuck with a 32bit OS, even though we have 64bit processors.

As far as I am concerned, especially with no OpenCL for my 3870, this is another nail in the Apple coffin for me.

I love the OS, I really really do, but the hardware is far too expensive [Mac Pros] and they knowingly cripple them by design. Not a conspiracy theory, read about the Mac Pro history and graphics cards, etc. Also, a current, single CPU [Mac Pro] costs 300 bucks more than my dual processor Xeon of '06. How does that make sense ?

So, I am going to hone my Hackintosh skills [Chameleon/PCEFI ;) ] and see if Windows 7 sucks less than all other Microsoft offerings [I seriously doubt it will suck less but hey, I'm trying here].

Cheers !

New HDD, for new OS

Hi all,

I recently purchased a seagate 500GB 7k HDD to put in my MBP core Duo. I was planning to purchase SL (upgrade - but full :p) and after hardware install, start with SL on the new drive! Following that copy back files, contacts, iCal, iphoto, iTunes etc from the old drive connected with an enclosure!

Does this process sound do-able, meaning installing SL onto a brand new drive. And secondly access the old drive in it's current form externally?

Note: I do have a full legit copy of leopard already, but want to start fresh, new drive, new OS!

Thanks
