Did you use iLeopard?

No I actually wrote my own little app Back when Leopard was new to fix a few things (change some preferences like how the path is shown, dock color/style, scrollbar style, top menubar style etc.) I never released it anywhere, but I called it 'LeopUIFix'. (the other stuff still worked)

Clean install vs upgrade

What does everyone recommend a clean install or if I do an upgrade from 10.5.8 will that be fine?

Can anyone tell me if AppleWorks 6.2.9 works on Snow Leopard? I use Pages a lot but I still have many documents in AppleWorks that I use. Did Rosetta ever come with Snow Leopard or not.

Lastly, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest) how would you rate Snow Leopard so far??
When you install SL it has the option to install Rosetta. Can't confirm AppleWorks. However, Adobe PS CS2 seems work so far.

Grr what a waste. I ordered my Up to date disc back in June and won't receive it via pony express, I mean USPS till Tuesday. Bullshiz. I don't wanna wait, then again I don't wanna give Apple $30. Is the Up to date disc the same thing as the regular one? Can I just return it?

My First Huge Apple Disappointment

Snow Leopard screwed up:

Maya 2008 and 2009 - shaders and manipulators are the same color -- one shade at a time.

XTorrent no longer works, killing my 90% downloaded item that took about 2 weeks to download

NOTHING (I've tried so far) INSTALLS - Beware of this! I installed drivers for my 3DConexion mouse and a new ON DSLR software driver. They start, then when you click Install, nothing happens!!

The Invalid Password keeps popping up!!

Snow Leopard is NOT worth it. I am livid. Apple is no better than Windows to me right now by releasing this super buggy software prematurely.

How can I revert to Leopard? If I can't, I'll have to use Maya on my MBP instead of my dual monitor Mac Pro with more power and of course a better experience. This sucks royally, and I hate that I trusted Apple and upgraded. I hope that they have an update by Monday.

I just installed.

It does have some bugs. Don't believe me ? Don't care.

Stick with 10.5.X until 10.6.X

Worth the 30 bucks ? Doesn't seem to, right now. For those that have a perfectly fine system... you can afford to wait 6-12 months before an upgrade. You most likely will not notice any differences.

Oh, to those that claim Windows 7 is behind and 10.6 was released early... it shows. 10.6 should have spent another month or two in the works.

Great step towards, the not yet there, 64 bitness. So, the upgrade is really a toss-up. Wait a few months for it to mature [including 3rd party developers].

Screen from my 2006 Mac Pro :

Snow gave me 45 Geek Bench points. Well within the margin of error.

I should have waited. Now I'll have to work on Maya on my laptop until 3rd party developers catch up. PLUS I cannot install anything. I wish I could sue Apple right about now. I am so angry!

Updating to 10.6 and Time Machine

As things are now, I do not currently use Time Machine... However, I have an external drive that I could use with it. My question is this... If I back up w Time Machine to my external and do a clean install of Snow Leopard... Will I be able to bring my applications back to my internal HDD using Time Machine and the Migration Assistant?? Or will I have to reinstall all software manually??

Any information would be greatly appreciated...

I'm surprised it wasn't the end of the world. All hell breaks lose worrying over some space with people that has 300GB+.

I sometimes wonder if people actually use their computers or sit and look at the HDD number everyday.

I'm leaning toward yes on that statement.

Mine says "Service Battery".

I got it too-called apple and they had me try a full cycle and still have it. I will be calling them back tomorrow to see what I should do next? Hopefully its nothing but who knows-will report once I have a better idea. Whats weird is that I have not noticed any difference in battery performance.

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

Locate:

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string></string>

Change it to:

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>arch=x86_64</string>

When I do that and click Save, it won't save.

Steve Jobs or Apple did not put a gun to your head and force you to buy or install Snow Leopard. There was a Wiki on a Snow Leopard Compatibility List. Plus forums here. Actually because of site likes MacRumors made upgrades easier to me because there are so many people to communicate with to see what their experiences. Well as you should have checked with Maya Developers to see if the had a update for Snow Leopard. You have no one to blame but the end user. :p

I already updated, and just finished backing up via time machine. I feel like everything's slowed down. Should I just hope that it gets it's groove after a restart or two or would it be worth to just wipe the hard drive and boot up with my back up?

Thanks,
Clayne

I was a little sad because I started to do an upgrade install, and I got some weird error that told me to reformat the HD and restore from backup after installing. (on a Mac Mini Core Duo)

Good thing I had all my data saved somewhere else so doing a clean install.

Looking forward to the increase in speed ...

Do a Time Machine Backup first then see if you can either format or reinstall Leopard.

Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard = Windows ME -- remember that hype/disaster?

May faith in Apple has flatl ined right now. And to think that I encouraged a friend to buy one. How can this company that brags about how much better they are than Windows come out with this bullshat?

Actually, there have actually been lawsuits over the differences between the two systems. You have to understand the average computer user: They spend a lot of money on a 500 GB hard drive, only to find out when they get home that there is only about 420 GB or so of usable space. They feel like they got the wrong product.

But Snow Leopard fixes this, because now a 500 GB hard drive is actually registered as 500 GB, even though the disk space itself is exactly the same.

actually that always had me mad. I got two WD 2TB external hard drives but I see I have 1.8TB each, so am I'm gaining 200GB of actual space to utilize or this proportionate or prorate my current usage?

Whatever
Apple brags about not being buggy, but this upgrade is LOADED with bugs. They're no better than Windows ME with this DOWNgrade.

I WANT MY MONEY BACK AND I WILL CALL APPLE AND DEMAND A FIX!!!

I should have pirated this instead.

Language! Two you can always throw your system on Craigslist with Snow Leopard and take the money and buy you good Dell or HP from Walmart. I sure your Maya will be working real good on that setup. I'm sure you can open up a animation studio like Pixar.

Yeah and probably get Malware to really screw up your system. Yeah you Microsoft Customer of the Year. They never have a customer easier than you.

Cause apparently this guy over at MT got it but of course we have to wait for him to tell us how if ever.

All your bugs seem to be related to 3rd party applications. How exactly is it Apple's fault that you couldn't wait and make sure all your applications would work before upgrading ?

I have the Snow Leopard disc on my desk, but I'm not upgrading until I'm sure Virtual Box 3 runs on a 64 bit kernel or Checkpoint comes out with a SecureClient that runs on 10.6. I need all these tools for my job and that's more important than upgrading on day 1.

They should not have released an OS prematurely, but they did. Um, I don't think my APPLE PASSWORD MANAGER that keeps popping up with an error is a 3rd party app...next?

Oh, and Leopard didn't cause a fraction of these issues for me, nor are the apps I am having issues with listed. Sorry that I trusted Apple to be as awesome as they claim to be in those self-indulgent ads which are somewhat like their worshippers here.
