What's the point of this 10 base counting? I'm see more space but its not really?
Because we humans tend to count using a decimal system. To us, we see a megabyte as 1,000 bytes, but a computer sees it as 1,024 bytes.

Most people tend to prefer the decimal system because it's easier to understand and calculate, and thus this is probably why Snow Leopard has switched to base-10 counting. To simplify things even more.

It made things worse for me. I know my file sizes are correct in the base 10 system but I don't know how to interpret them because in my mind they should be in base 2.

There has to be a command line fix for this crap.

I'm surprised it wasn't the end of the world. All hell breaks lose worrying over some space with people that has 300GB+.

I sometimes wonder if people actually use their computers or sit and look at the HDD number everyday.

Actually, there have actually been lawsuits over the differences between the two systems. You have to understand the average computer user: They spend a lot of money on a 500 GB hard drive, only to find out when they get home that there is only about 420 GB or so of usable space. They feel like they got the wrong product.

But Snow Leopard fixes this, because now a 500 GB hard drive is actually registered as 500 GB, even though the disk space itself is exactly the same.

Quicktime!!! Redux

Ok so after venting about how crappy QT X was. Well I still have gripes about some features. I was mad at the lack of QT Pro export options and playback. However after looking around it seems Apple has decided to throw QT 7 inside the utilities folder . I am happy now:) Thanks for making me feel like a dumba**!!

I just installed.

It does have some bugs. Don't believe me ? Don't care.

Stick with 10.5.X until 10.6.X

Worth the 30 bucks ? Doesn't seem to, right now. For those that have a perfectly fine system... you can afford to wait 6-12 months before an upgrade. You most likely will not notice any differences.

Oh, to those that claim Windows 7 is behind and 10.6 was released early... it shows. 10.6 should have spent another month or two in the works.

Great step towards, the not yet there, 64 bitness. So, the upgrade is really a toss-up. Wait a few months for it to mature [including 3rd party developers].

Screen from my 2006 Mac Pro :

Snow gave me 45 Geek Bench points. Well within the margin of error.

Got it, and love it!!

The QT X is nice visually, but lacking in the feature department, but apperently they left QT 7 in utilities :p

that said QT X is gorgous due to it's simplicity. So I plan on using it for veiwing most things. The only thing I will need QT 7 for is when I'm using Final Cut

Thanks for the wonderful observation, smart ass.

I was merely giving a bench that most have and use.

Snow seems a little snappy in some places but only to be met with an equal number of hiccups and bugginess.

Snow is a coin-flipper, for the majority of those considering upgrading.

Oh man, in Leopard I had modified my Extras.rsrc and Extras2.rsrc to fix my scroll bars to look like iTunes Scroll bars. I'm not having much luck with it in Snow Leopard though. anyone else try it ?

VERY happy with the new update! Snow Leopard is FAST, and it even makes my webpages render quicker (Firefox 3.5.2).

The only initial trouble I had...

1. Snapz Pro X reverted to trial mode, and I had to re-enter my registration code - i.e. not that big of a deal.

2. SL reverted my colors back to default CRAP (if you don't calibrate your screen, you wouldn't believe how awful the default colors and gamma really look...) So I went to re-calibrate, and the software runs, but it won't detect my hardware. Might need to reinstall that or wait for an update.

In the meantime, I was able to revert to a recent calibration that still looks good.

3. I was about to say Candybar doesn't work, but as soon as I ran it, there's a SL-compatible version available, so downloading now...

4. iStat Menu doesn't yet work with SL...I can live without it for a little while, but I hope they update it soon :)

VERY well worth the measly $30 upgrade fee for a FULL install disc!

All these Finder and Spotlight changes are starting to get to me. I just ordered every Snow Leopard book from the library so I can figure out what Spotlight customization Apple is talking about.

I still really, really miss Tiger.

Just want to point out...

I just installed.

Yeah, just want to point something out. This benchmark test you have posted here is a benchmark of your hardware, specifically the processor and buses. A software change is not going to change the hardware, and if some results do change, they would only be very nominal. These results are actually quite correct as they show that, yes, you did run the tests on the same hardware.

Perspective, people... not all of us whip out the hardcore analysis apps and scour the numbers. =)

Some of us, believe it or not, are simply very happy to be able to do what they always do with no problems, and knowing that any bugs there may be are unlikely to impact their work or recreation. =P

iMac looks good. I'm about to pop the disk into this MacBook now!

Your not alone. I was freekin out until I uncovered QT7 pro.

I'm pretty frustrated.

First right after installation, OSX tells me to find System Events.app, which I don't think I ever did because I couldn't figure it out..but I don't seem to notice any consequences, unless it's more serious than I'm thinking?

On top of that, I noticed my internet browsing seems significantly slower. Like an extra 5 to 10 seconds per page. Why is this happening? I thought I was supposed to notice things faster, and I realize that browsing the internet doesn't necessarily have as much to do with the OS as it does the connection, but it wasn't like this before.

I'm not sure if it was worth the immediate update, so far.

Thank you.

Also, backing up is taking forever.

Yes a smoother ride and the icon colors are absolutely beautiful!! Loving my SL, which installed so great on my MBP!! Happy Camper!! :)

The screen saver effects have changed. Go to say "flagged photos" and select mosaic style - wait for the compile and give it a test - Awesome.

Worth the money by itself.

Although it did crash a couple of times when I changed the options.

AppleWorks & Rosetta

Can anyone tell me if AppleWorks 6.2.9 works on Snow Leopard? I use Pages a lot but I still have many documents in AppleWorks that I use. Did Rosetta ever come with Snow Leopard or not.

Lastly, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest) how would you rate Snow Leopard so far??
