I was hoping for rational thought on this list.

Why don't you try displaying some rational thought, then?

Despite being asked repeatedly and by more than one person, you haven't once explained why you are keeping the rMBP. Preferring OSX isn't a reason, because you can get the non-retina MBP (and it even has an Ethernet port!!!!!!!!!!!!). You don't like the retina screen, so no reason to hang onto it for the screen.

What is the point of this thread, and the point of you keeping the machine? Are you trying to build up support for a lawsuit against Apple or something?

Or are you just making all this up for kicks?

I'm do interesting about blurring issue. I haven't had rMBP but I'm using MBP with high-res screen. I made the screenshot. You will see that on the edge or boundary. There are many a pixel line on the edge. IMO if the display is blur on the 1920x1200 resolution of rMBP, you won't see this as a 1 pixel line, right? Please provide me a screenshot like this on your rMBP. It will help me to a lot cause I'm about to buy new rMBP.

Many Thank.

I have do more research about blurring of rMBP. I found the screenshot @AnandTech post on their site. They said "at 1920 x 1200 Apple is rendering everything at 3840 x 2400 (!) before scaling". That mean they scale image from 3840 x 2400 to 2880x1800. I have do the same process using Photoshop and attach the result as you see below.

That mean the single pixel line of boundary has been re-sampling to 2 line. So that is the reason that "the read" or somebody can see the blurring effect from this downsampling. Hope it help you make a decision before buy rMBP :)

I don't think the article is stating that. Here's the portion I believe your referencing Link
Oh but there’s more.

If you select the 1680 x 1050 or 1920 x 1200 scaling modes, Apple actually renders the desktop at 2x the selected resolution (3360 x 2100 or 3840 x 2400, respectively), scales up the text and UI elements accordingly so they aren’t super tiny (backing scale factor = 2.0), and downscales the final image to fit on the 2880 x 1800 panel. The end result is you get a 3360 x 2100 desktop, with text and UI elements the size they would be on a 1680 x 1050 desktop, all without sacrificing much sharpness/crispness thanks to the massive supersampling. The resulting image isn’t as perfect as it would be at the default setting because you have to perform a floating point filter down to 2880 x 1800, but it’s still incredibly good.

I think its upscaling the images in the other scaling options that are found in the display preference, not the default retina option.

Ethernet is dead.

Thank god!

Yeah, right...

I guess the wireless on the MBPr wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't crippled. If it had 802.11ac -and given the price it should have- the speed would be much better.

I guarantee you that GEN 2 of the MBPr will have it.

from wikipedia.. now will you give it a rest? please?

According to a study, devices with the 802.11ac specification are expected to become common by 2015

After cracking open the box and spending the past 2 weeks working with the new fully loaded Mac pro with retina display, I have to say I'm really disappointed.

The my main gripe is with the intergration of the screen and OS. Apple have not revised the OS to display to the capabilities of this screen. The more screen realestate you attempt to gain, the more blurred the image becomes, the quicker I get a head-ache. Putting the screen to (best for Renina) provides no advantage over the standard screen. Spending the extra cash makes me feel that Apples marketing team have just cheated me.

My second main problem is with the lack of Ethernet connection. First I didn't realize that the computer did not have this connection port. It still is and has been for the past 10-15 years an industry standard for fast and reliable connectivity to any network. Being a pro labeled computer this should be standard. For my work I require transfer of data that runs into gigs every day. relying on wifi eventually frustrated me to the point of walking out the office and rushing down to the nearest Mac store to spend more money on a device that quite frankly should not be needed.

Then I wanted to transfer data from my network to my portable external drives. Something I've been doing for years. To my rage, I then realized, I only have one remaining USB port. How can I connect 2 drives through a standard USB at the same time and have access to my network. It's not possible.

As a result; I'm now back on my 2008 Mac pro, not having any headaches and transferring data as required. I'm still frustrated with my old computers screen res, and the new pro is collecting dust in the corner of the room, while I determine if I'm going to return it back to apple or spend more money trying to enable the computer to do what is expected of it.

I didnt buy an Air, I bought a Pro, that has the limitations of an Air.

Am I angry, yes. Have I lost trust with Apple, yes. Do I feel cheated, yes most defiantly.

I'm sure some people will feel different about some of my comments and thats ok. I'm logging these concerns as I think people should know the limitations I've experienced with Apples latest flag ship laptop. I've been an Apple user for years. But I'm convinced apple are now a marketing driven company, with little respect for the users who have adopted their tech and the challenges we face on a daily level.

All in its a very disappointing product. This is not innovation, it's misunderstanding what people need. 1 step forward = 3 steps back.

Wow, must be nice to be able to drop $2-3k on a laptop without even trying it in the store (at least previewing if the display works for you) or even giving a glance at the specs (not knowing there was no ethernet port). And then bitching about it like you were hoodwinked.

Also, if you have two drives to connect to your network, there are TWO USB ports, and TWO thunderbolt ports, either of which can use a thunderbolt to GigE adapter to connect to the network... Talk about first world problems...

You'll notice with Apple they're very conservative on additions unless they dramatically add to the coolness factor. Wireless signal standards and usb versions add less to mass marketing than you might think. For its price the 2011 should have come with usb3. Instead they waited until intel literally handed it to them. The cMBP is still at 1TB port as they didn't want to bother modifying the design. This is pretty much the norm. They'll package some major jumps and changes at times to push an updated product. The rest of the time the refreshes are very predictable. You get the same thing with hardware specs adjusted for the current year.

No idea what the OP is talking about. In any mode, everything is sharp in applications that have been updated. In those that have not, some UI elements may look aliased. I'm running in 1680x1050 mode and it's perfect. Absolutely stunning.

You bought a macbook pro retina to run in 1680x1050?

lololol that is hilarious to me.

I don't understand the no advantage at best for retina setting. The advantage is 2880x1800 resolution! Sure the icons are the same size, but they are 1024x1024 resolution! As for the ethernet port. That would have made the unit larger, and most people are very happy with the new form factor. They sell a TB adapter which will give you all the bandwidth you need. It is only $29 so it's not a huge expense.

Whether most other people are happy with the new design is irrelevant. Your suggestion to buy the adapter is helpful. The rest of your post is merely snarky.

Next time research on your next product before you buy it.

Another waste of space response for the rest of us to read.

Why another user decides to keep his or her machine, or toss it in the garbage, or use it for a table is none of your business! Trying to find some useful information among all of these snotty, opinionated responses to another user's post is a drag. Why don't you get a life and try to be less judgmental and more positive for Christ's sake?

Glad for the information. Not glad to wade through obnoxious fanboys and girls.

I appreciate the information and this person's experience so I know what to look for. BTW, I use my Ethernet port and multiple USB ports all of the time on my older MBPro.

I do not appreciate in the slightest having to wade through all of the obnoxious, rude, aggressive, judgmental, argumentative responses that show a decided lack of manners and intrude too far into other people's business. You people waste the time of those of us looking for useful, helpful information. You show yourselves as small in character to strangers. Please do other readers a favor and get over yourselves!

Thanks again for the initial post sharing user experience. And thanks to those who offered nonjudgmental, respectful solutions.

lololol that is hilarious to me.

Don't get your humor. I also run it in 1680x1050 and the quality is excellent, look much better then a native 1680x1050 on many other displays. 1920x1200 is a bit smallish for my taste.

Your upset because you didn't do your research prior to spending $2K? That is no ones fault but your own.

Who asked you? What you think about "fault" is best kept to yourself because it is irrelevant to the discussion.

I think the point of retina is that you have the option to really take advantage of any screen resolution offered. For reading and coding this thing is unbelievable, have been waiting along time for this. Depending on my use I might use "best for retina" if I'm tired or my eyes need a rest. :) I normally use 1920x1200 which "for me" is most useful. Sometimes I'll even use native res of panel 2880x1800 if I need the real estate. Apple has done an amazing job providing this technology with OS X and yes it's first of it's type, but for me I'm total impressed and extremely satisfied with the rMBP and can't even think of going back to traditional type displays. Just my input.

It isn't about only you

I don't really understand the problem tho. You don't need ethernet at starbucks. Only at home. And you can get Bluetooth mouse and keyboard if you really want to free up the data ports. I have a bluetooth keyboard that I take with me occasionally, when I know I will need it. And I have a Logitech mouse with a tiny dongle that is always plugged in. I never really need to plug more than one HDD in at a time. So it's not really an issue. I am currently using an 11" MBA, which has even less ports and I have never felt restricted.

Your belief that laptop users use our Macs mostly for traveling from home is an erroneous one. Many of us use our laptops in lieu of a desktop. I've rarely touched my desktop because I use my laptop 99.9% of the time at home. I don't travel with my laptop anymore because dragging it along with its paraphernalia is a hassle. Instead, I just take my iPad. The MBPro stays home.

There are many more users just like me. Thus, your repeated argument that complaints regarding the lack of Ethernet and USB ports are not valid because people don't need them away from their house applies only to how you use it; but you aren't the only person or type of user, are you?

I'm lost. If you don't like it why don't you take it back? Get a windows laptop or a cMBP? Why take the abuse?

What difference does it make? It isn't any of our business. What is relevant is the design, what it has and what it doesn't have, and any solutions people have to offer.

----------

Should be aware? You bought the $2,000 product and you weren't even aware.
The fact you seriously bought a $2,000 product with such little knowledge about it, nullifies ANY argument you may have.

You're logic is basically like, if I were to buy a new car from Nissan.. only to realize AFTER I bought it, that it has no backseat.. then rant saying it's Nissans fault for not including a backseat in this model car. Are there other cars with backseats for my kids? Sure, but I bought the one without it so I must obviously rant on a forums blaming Nissan for my poor consumerism skills.

Your posts indicate you are not old enough to buy a car. Stop being a rude brat in front of everyone. Oh, and use of the word "rant" really doesn't apply here. It's really overused these days.

Sorry if you're view of the "average" laptop user is a lazy desktop user...but I disagree.

I don't understand the point of buying a laptop that never leaves your desk. Get a desktop..they tend to be a lot cheaper. The point of a portable computer is to be portable. Otherwise you are just throwing money away on the portable premium.

His analogy was perfectly suited to your complaints. You are just upset that people are flocking to agree with your flawed opinion.

You could have gleamed all of this information from a quick glance at the specifications page. I assume people do that before buying a computer. It's not like you're giving us incredible secret information.

I didn't see any references to "incredible secret information." Where is that, exactly?

Here is an odd thought. Maybe not everyone is experiencing what you experience. Crazy stuff.

Maybe you could try a little harder to be even more insulting just to make a point. What is the point?

Your immature insults are very unnecessary and not conducive to a rational debate. Just because your eyesight is not quite right it does not mean that everybody has the same problem.

Good lord. The complaints had nothing to do with you, me, or anyone else. It isn't about your intelligence. And where did the OP write "everybody has the same problem"? Nowhere.

Apple doesn't need you and the other brat-boys and gals in here dumping on someone because they are unhappy with a product and Apple marketing. And get real! I have a house full of Apple products, but I know perfectly well their marketing matters, and I know their new ads for Siri on the iPhone are load of garbage-grossly exaggerated. My Siri doesn't understand quite often, is also often slow, and doesn't joke around with me either.

I will be purchasing a new laptop in the near future and appreciate the post informing me what this person learned, albeit the hard way. It never occurred to me to be "insulted." Some people really need to remove that mirror wrapped around their heads so the rest of us can read and comment in peace.

It's probably worth pointing out that the MBPr DOES have Gigabit Ethernet support. It has an onboard Broadcom BCM57100 series Gigabit Ethernet/Memory Card reader controller. It just lacks the RJ45 connector. You need the Thunderbolt/GigE adapter to connect to it (explaining why the adapter is only $29, by the way). This is a far cry from the computer not having Ethernet. Frankly, I think needing the adapter for the rare times you won't be using WiFi is a great trade-off for being able to deliver a computer as thin and light-weight as the MBPr.

That was useful info.Thanks!

I'm noticing that your entire posting history here is you yelling at other users and saying how they are attacking your valid opinion and just being fanboys.....it sounds to me like:

A) the Macbook Pro is possibly not the right device for you

and

B) this forum is definitely not the right place for you.

I have an ethernet adapter at home and one at work. So it cost me $60 to not have to carry one with me and always have one. Not bad IMHO.

You're being ridiculous, and missing the point. 1) How you use your laptop and how I use mine are different. Therefore, we have differing needs. One is not superior or inferior to the other. You, however, think and communicate from the assumption that your way is the only and best way, and therefore is the only way that matters. 2) You have no idea what my opinion regarding the rMBPro is because I've not stated an opinion about it. What I did share is that these juvenile, aggressive responses are tedious to slog through and I am sick of them. I'd like to see more grownups in these forums.

@iwannaknow

Well too bad for me then, since I already own multiple MBPros.
