This is the reason that I will not be buying a MBP from Apple, I project that in 2-3 years I might need a replacement machine, but Apple is taking the MBP in a direction that doesn't meet MY needs.

To each his or her own!

But yeah, research should have been done, and I completely AGREE that you should never have to buy a bunch of peripherals to get PRO functionality to a machine.

Wait, wait, wait... Are suggesting that a major benefit of an extremely expensive notebook computer is that the icons are 1024x1024 resolution??

Tell me again how the OP should be excited to spend an additional $29 for a world-wide standard connection on a Pro based notebook? Wireless wouldn't have been so bad but crippling the machine with 802.11n by not using 802.11ac is just plain bad. If you want decent speed you have to attach a cumbersome connector that kind of defeats the look and portability...
Let me get this straight. You're bitching tha Apple didn't include 802.11ac? Really? Only one laptop is currently shipping that I'm aware of supports 802.11ac -- the Asus G75VW. And 802.11ac routers are just starting to hit the streets. I think it remains to be seen if very thin laptops will be able to squeeze in the number of antennas 802.11ac needs to reach full speed.

As for the Ethernet dongle. The thing is tiny. Much smaller than my retractable Cat5 cable.

Bottom line - most people don't use the ethernet ports on their laptop computers. Most people do use ethernet ports on their desktop computers.

If you use your rMBP as a desktop replacement, hook up a $29 adapter to your ethernet cable, and ethernet is always there for you. if you use your rMBP as a desktop replacement at home and at work, hook up two $29 adapters to your ethernet cables at home and work, and ethernet is always there for you. if $29 or $58 dollars is too pricey for your $3000-$4000 dollar rMBP budget, return the damn machine already. Or if you're lucky, boltjames is reading this stupid thread, and will paypal you the money just to end the whining.

I simply can't understand people, who are saying that Apple aren't innovative..

----------

why do you and others keep saying this? its not true. no other manufacturers have done it, ever. If you put a retina display in those "other" machines they would have a 1 hour battery life (at best)

Exactly! Totally agree, I don't get it neither why they are saying it..

I love my new Retina MacBook...

It got a ****ing good screen - Love it! :D

It's also **********g fast it takes around 10 secs before it is at login screens and then when i enter my password its nearly instant and ready to go, yeah there are some UI problems, but i still like it and don't want to return it..

And with the superdrive and ethernet i have one thing to say... **** THEM!

Last time i used ethernet was to a LAN party with no Wireless because it's just easier to use a computer with less cables, and my drive yeah i have used that recently but it normally it's all gets streamed on the internet or i have it on a external drive....

Your off on another planet with 0 relevance, I'm discontinueing this thread...

you said this old laptop was the same size as the rmbp and managed to keep the ethernet port. right? implying apple should be able to do the same, since someone else did it, right? this is straighforward. We on the same page so far?

Im telling you that other laptop didnt need a huge battery to power it, and if it did they probably wouldnt be able to fit an optical drive or an ethernet port. whats the problem? how am i off on another planet? you cant understand this very simple point?

if you wanted a car with a 200 gallon gas tank youd probably have to remove the backseat. dude, this is very simple solution to a space problem. boy o boy..

I don't know why you guys keep talking to a guy who lacks the cognitive skills to operate a dongle or read specifications on a product page before purchase.

It's like attempting to explain algebra to a 4 year old. It's just futile.

Funny. You'll end up doing the exact same thing with ANY Windows machine.

but its easier to complain, because that is what people in the MBP forum do....a lot. Guess they think they are entitled to everything being exactly as they envision it when they spend more than a couple thousand on a computer (which honestly isn't that much! My Mac Pro cost almost $5000...and lets not even talk about pro software!!!!)

The point is only with regards to the Ethernet socket and how other manufactures were able to include this socket on slimmer computers. We were not discussing battery, or anything else specific to this conversation fork.

Now your talking about cars? Let's stop this, nothing here is relivent.

Sounds like your not really doing anything that warrants the power of the pro or requires ant larger screen space. Maybe if you did you would find similar issues to myself.

If you have ever required to transfer Gigs of data across a network you would not accept wifi as a soloution. The problem only get worse if the whole office was to rely on wifi.

Wired networks out perform wifi by 2-4 times. This problem also Becomes greater with more people in an office saturating the wifi.

Wifi should not be relied upon for a default soloution on a computer labeled Pro.

that all really comes down to what drives you have. 5200rpm platters will bottleneck any cat6 gigabit blaster and have it run like a 56k modem.. SSD Raids on a solid wireless network will smoke..

This is false. No one requiring multiple users would network a slow drive under this way. When networking a volume you would have to take into consideration raid setups usually found on a volume presented on a network. No one would expect a slow drive to perform successfully on its own. Ussually the setup is calculated so the number of needles/drives raided to read and write the data outperform or are equal to the network speed. Your controllers are also a consideration.
If your network has had any level of intelligent thought behind it, the bottle neck is always the network itself.

A simple 1GB cat5 or 6 network will easily out perform a wireless network. The more users on the same wireless network the slower the network becomes. The same saturation points are not found as quickly on a 1GB network. It would be equal to all users accessing data using the same 1GB port.

You took this way of topic. The wired network will out perform the wifi network. No questions.

how could i take this way off topic when there never was one. dig deep down and try to find some sense in this all so you can just go to bed peacefully. i have never seen anyone like you who flaps so hard that you vibrate your brain into losing track of the here and now. slow DOWN dude!!

you started this thing about the screen and now youre onto praching about network speeds and blah blah blah.. when anyone talks to you theyre "off the planet".. if simple explanantions to simple problems you have, seem like mindless drivel to you, perhaps you should follow your own advice and terminate the thread and live to see another day...

let me save you some trouble..

you-->> "oh great, now hes talking about terminations and life for another time. youre wayy off track buddy, this conversation is over. what planet are you from?"

So why are you telling us? Find a solution to your "problem".

The soloution has been industry standard for 15 years. It's called Ethernet. And without spending more money, Apple have not included the solution on their new flagship computer.

Thats my point. It should be included.

so youre assuming EVERYBODY who uses these laptops are going to have mulitple ssd drives raided? thats insane. and im with you. this threads done

You took it off track. Re read the forum. I just corrected your nonsense.

The two concerns I posted were the blurry screen issues and lack of ethernet support.

but they didnt. check please. tissues are over there with some return labels.

Errr.... You want a ethernet port, and you don't care about the screen in since software hasn't been optimized for it anyway....

...so why didn't you just buy one of these?

What should be included? A dongle? Would be nice I admit, but it's not, so pay up or shut up, isn't that how it goes? You paid up part way, now you can either be butt hurt for the rest of your life or spend $30 to end this sad, sad charade.
