After 48 charge cycles my rMB battery is at 89% of capacity. I've been on the Apple Support site chatting with customer service and after resetting the SMC with no results they are sending me into the Apple Store on Tuesday to have the battery tested.
Let us know how it went please.

After replacing computer twice, this new one has 20 cycles and 90% charge.... I may just return it permanently.

I agree, its a design flaw. My second one also has the same battery degradation issues. I'll sell this one when v2 comes out.

So the genius did several tests. It passed the battery test however the power adapter test failed repeatedly with several different adapters. The genius thinks that maybe the problem isn't with the battery itself but rather with the the power management portion of the computer. They sent my MacBook into the repair facility and we'll see what they do from there. I'll post an update when I get my MacBook back next week.

The genius said they've only seen one other 12" MacBook with a battery problem at that store. I have a feeling this is a widespread problem but most users won't recongnize it as most don't monitor the health of their battery.

For everybody that uses coconutbattery, what are your battery temperatures when you have no programs open and are viewing youtube at 1080P or netflix? My battery health is still at 100% after 14 loadcycles but this is the 2nd Macbook(2015). I have gotten that gets so hot and throttles, I can be using safari and firefox and the temperature is always at 39-41 celcius while at rest its usually 37 celcius. I see users here that posted their coconut battery temps and they are much lower than mine so I think I definitely got a 2nd dud Macbook in a row.

Low to mid 30`s C at idle, battery temp low 30`s, CPU high 40`s, low 50`s with YouTube 1080p, 60 FPS playing (1.2, 512 on 10.10.4)

For me, I open a youtube video of any kind in either safari or firefox and charge it at the same time and it gets to a 42 celcius reading on coconutbattery and then I get the heat warning from coconutbattery and then the " performance reduced " notification from OSX. design capacity is at 98% after 16 charge cycles. This computer gets so hot and this is my second one in a row with the same problem, the first one had a battery sensor problem when the apple store I went to did their tablet diagnosis. the thing gets so hot when it reaches 39-42celcius that you cant even hold the thing for long, and you'll feel pain if you touch the bottom for more than 1 second. after reading all these problems here I have no doubt somebody goofed somewhere designing this thing.

This is why I am glad I decided to return my macbook and purchase the MBRP 2015 model.

Yeah gets hotter when charging and the Coconut Battery warning can pop up, does the same on my 13" rMBP 35C is fairly conservative, however I have yet to see any "Performance Reduced" warnings, don't remember ever seeing Coconut Battery report over 40C.

I tend to elevate the rear for ergonomics when I can, equally on the go in the day I just use it flat on the desk etc. I don't believe the design is inherently flawed, it is however not without limitations if anything it`s more related to quality control as some owners have no issue, while others clearly do have genuine issues.

I have never had that problem, but then again, I have had several battery problems. These computers are just difficult to get right

Not a degrading issues but in sleep mode yesterday, I lost 18 percent of my battery life overnight. Thats is with wifi off. So I am just wondering what is going on.

Start with see ing what`s waking up the MacBook; open terminal copy & paste

cat /var/log/system.log | grep -i "wake reason"

Thank you Q-6. I pasted the above but only this evening. Hence, I could not detect the real cause why my computer kept waking up last night. Will try again next time.

Try this. With your macbook fully charged, run macrumors forum and read for 2-3 min and see what time youll get of usage. If this is the same next week and so on, there is no issues regarding what your apps health said
The battery is tested with cycles, so i bet apple is doing the same, so its better to use your macbook on battery until 10% and then full charge. This is ideal.
Using plug in the battery drain charge drain charge by 5% factor lets say so not the whole thing, i mean phisical

Yep better to run the command after the Notebook has been asleep overnight and you observe the power drain. Likely it`s just OS X background behaviour, have been using my MacBook for work each day for the last month and have not observed any discharge of the batty during sleep.

Hi Q-6, I left it on sleep mode his morning for about 4 hours. These were the processes recorded. It does not look like there is anything out of the ordinary but I lost 6 percent of my battery during this time.

Just got my Macbook back from being repaired. They replaced the bottom case and battery. Currently my Battery health is 99%! Hope it stays that way.

I regret seeing this thread!

I'm going to keep using mine for a couple of weeks. . .what kind of health should be on it after that tome lol. I'm scared!

All the batteries seem to be weird. My 2015 retina MBP fluctuates between 99.8 to 99.2 where it is now at four cycles.

My brand new 2012 13" MBP is at 97.5 with three cycles on it. It was at 96.5 an hour ago while plugged in and fully charged. Why did it suddenly go up? I think it may have to do with the OS, both are on Yosemite out of the box.

It`s not an exact integer nor is it meant to be, many conditions effect the battery; discharge, load, temp, chemistry. Do yourself a favour and forget about it, any significant problem Apple will replace the battery. I far prefer to use and enjoy my Mac`s than be concerned with what may or may not happen.

Ya I agree. It is just meant to be general but if it gets really low then maybe something is up

Well after one day of having my MacBook back from repair its already down to 97% health at 3 charge cycles (it already had 2 cycles when it came back from repair).

Not gonna panic yet, but hopefully this trend of decline doesn't continue...

After talking to Applecare employees it seems that it's normal for the Macbook to get extremely hot and that my usage might be too much for what this computer was intended for. My usage consists of watching netflix and youtube, so I guess that's too much? And after 20 charge cycles the battery capacity is down to 95%, so am I just lacking knowledge about computer hardware or is there something wrong with the design of this computer?

Sent my Macbook 12" to Apple Service Centre in Singapore, they did some Battery Diagnostic test, result is ok.

My Macbook 12" is only 2 weeks old, cycle count is 8 however the Design Capacity is degraded to 90% right now...with a Maximum Charge of 4767mAh!

Is this a faulty product out of a box?

Need to seek what are my opinion to escalate this to Apple?
