I just bought mine a couple days ago, i cant put this down!

I have had PCs for many years...and i will NEVER go back.

:apple:

haha well put!! :) exactly how i have been feeling since Friday. L O V I N G it! the mac just makes everything more fun :apple:

I envy you guys, I have to wait, till the 29th to get mine (paycheck). However, it will be awesome gift for myself, just came from Lakeside Mall Apple Store and it was awesome feeling to see it in person.

Ok, so I finally got mine. Parents gladly loaned me the difference. I have now my new MacBook! My First Mac!!:):D:D

Unfortunately, my Apple rep tells me that the hard drives will chirp and some people might hear it. You really can't make a dead silent laptop. There are things spinning and motors running inside. However, depending on how sensitive your hearing is, you might or might not hear it.
Now i have to agree that if you have a noise that is out of the ordinary DEFINITELY get it taken care of and don't overlook it.

ssd will allow for a silent laptop

I picked up the 2.0 model yesterday and I am in LOVE with this thing. I know it cost me more than if I had bought a PC, but seriously, multitouch alone is worth the markup for me. I have the slight issue with the battery cover, but I don't really notice it. The pictures don't do it justice, because when I first saw them I was lukewarm about it. It is striking in person though.

This is probably the best purchase I've made in a while. Apple did a really good job with it. I just hope nothing catastrophic happens to it, I wanna keep it for a long time.

This whole macbook/macbook air thing should be very simple, lol.

Already have a powerful desktop ---> MacBook or MacBook Pro or MacBook Air should be OK.

Does not have a desktop ---> MacBook or MacBook Pro. NOT MACBOOK AIR!

What is going on with Apple? Slanted keys, loose batteries, loud space bars; and now, dead pixels?! COME ON :apple: !!

Dead pixels are a possible outcome for any LCD.

Upon closer inspection, I think it's a speck of dust behind the glass, not a dead pixel. :S

Whew, my macbook is back to normal. no more spinning disk noise after the restart!

For all of you flaw seekers, I have a indentaton, I think, near the mic. It only show up on some light reflections. But I can't actually feel a difference.

I am happy with my purchase. Less happy there is no way to sync my keychain from my panther mac. Still trying to get m iphoto library over to the new machine.

Excited about using missing sync with my palm centro! Finally my addresses are in address book. :)

everything about my new macbook is great except the space bar button. it makes a very different sound than the other keys and can be very disruptive in a quiet environment. has anyone found a solution to make it quieter?

i wish, but it doesn't seem like it.
a previous poster mentioned he is on his 3rd macbook and they all had the same problem.
guess we will have to get used to it?
ugh i donno its probably my only pet peeve about this laptop apart from the not so great screen, which isn't that big deal for me cuz i use my iMac most of the time for photo editing, while the macbook is fine for text.

edit: oh, and the MBP (my cousins) doesn't have any issues with the space bar so i don't know

yes the previous gen mb and mba didn't have this problem, so i don't know what's going on. i'm hoping that it's just a new button and the more we use it, the more it will get worn down and become quieter.

watching movies

I am interested to see what kind of temps and fan speeds you guys are getting during a movie. About 20 minutes into the movie i noticed my CPU temp had gone over 74 and the fans went up to about 2300 RPMs. The laptop was getting pretty hot there right before the fans kicked in high gear. Is this normal?!
Is anybody else getting this?

Well I just got my 2.0 Macbook. I was worried about dead pixels and dust after reading some of the posts on here.

I needn't have. :)

I think people tend to post when something is wrong... so I thought I'd post that for me, nothing is wrong.

Lucky you! Most people have had at least one problem. Then again...You probably aren't as picky about your Macbook as a lot of people. I bet I could find something wrong with it;) I am very picky.

As I have mentioned before, my Macbook sufferers from the noisy space bar and slanted keys. I am just gonna wait awhile until Apple gets this worked out and then see if I can have the keyboard repaired. I don't even care if I have to pay for it! I wonder how hard it is to repair the keyboard on this Macbook opposed to the last generation Macbook? Hmm...

Is the spacebar thing that big an issue? I don't have mine yet so I can't speak from experience, but don't keys make noise when they are clicked? Is it that big a deal that the spacebar is louder?
I saw someone else (not sure if it was this thread or another) mentioned that it is just because the spacebar is bigger. I'm nost sure if that is true or if it makes sense or not.

I guess I am just curious, is it an issue because it is just really annoying, or does it interfere with your work?

FWIW my MB is built pretty solid. My keyboard seems to be built half good/half bad. If you push the left part of the bar it makes the loud annoying sound but if you push the right side of the bar (which is the area i use most) it sounds like the other keys...which is probably why i didn't notice the issue until i read these forums

My trackpad is fine, my battery isn't loose even though i've taken it out a few times and no dead pixels. Although screen panel quality could be better a la MBA

How did he do this test?

Walt Mossberg in the WSJ this morning writes this in his review of the MacBook:

On my tough battery test, where I turn off all power-saving features and play an endless loop of music, the new MacBook lasted three hours and 53 minutes -- six minutes longer than the old one. That suggests that, in normal use, with power-saving on, you could achieve Apple's claim of five hours of battery life, or come close.

How did he get that much battery life out of a MacBook? Even if I turn brightness down all the way to the last visible stop, I only get 3:30. Anyone *ever* get to five hours?

I have not seen one yet, so you guys that have got one, can I ask if the front edge is still sharp as is my white MacBook?

Cheers!

This was already answered earlier in the thread and I will add it to the first post, but no. :)

The space bar may not be an issue to you. I just find it annoying because when you are typing you can easily hear when you hit the space bar. It also feels looser and more cheap I guess... And whoever says that it is louder just because it is longer is full of it. I compared my girlfriend's white Macbook, the Bluetooth Keyboard, and the new Macbook side by side and it is easy to tell the difference.

ifixit showed the keyboard replacement. there are 56 screws holding it onto the upper case. My F-keys are a touch slanted as well, but meh...i'll survive.
