I went to Best Buy yesterday and for the first time I checked out the 17" Unibody. Wow! First let me say that for me my Alum MB is perfect... I'm too small to carry around a 17" notebook. But man, at 6.6 pounds that thing was phenomenal. If I was a big guy, I'd have to consider it. It would be like having a big HD flat screen on your lap that had the weight of a feather. I couldn't believe how thin and light something that big could be. If you needed a lot of screen real estate and it needed to be portable, you couldn't go wrong.

So yes, I found my way to the local Best Buy store, and WOW i have to say... the 17" is a beauty!! LOVE LOVED that screen and resolution... :D

I think the 17 makes most sense if you are a frequent presenter to small groups. It would work great for that!

Yeah good point. It's a thing of beauty, and could be a wonderful tool for somebody who could put it to good use. Personally I'm way too mobile to buy a 17" lol. Maybe in a few years i'll buy a 15". But i don't know.. I just got back a long international trip and it was so nice to have my 13" on the plane and in the airports.. so light and small!! It was our first trip together and I think we had a blast :p

I'm starting to use my MB more in terms of portability and it's amazing. I take it to work every time to use and it has yet to fail me, though the 13" is good, a 15" screen would kick some booty while doing my desk work, but the portability is more important to me. I could always get an LCD to hook up since I got the MDP --> DVI adapter

I went from the MBP to a MB and I haven't missed the weight or the screen size at all. And now that the finish and quality of the MB and MBP are identical, I know I'm not missing out on anything... so size and quality... none better!

Yeah, personally I'm horrified of owning a 17" now, just because of the lack of a removable battery. Not that I don't think that it's a great idea, it totally is... getting that much battery life just for sacrificing the removal of it is great. I just don't trust myself enough to know that I would never spill anything on it, and by not being able to remove the battery, your laptop is doomed to death by spillage :(

But yeah, I agree with you, me and my 13" MacBook make a great couple :D hehe. I frequently bike around San Francisco and the weight of the laptop isn't a stress at all :)

For all you Alum club members...

Just passed an old business HP laptop on to one of the kids in the family that didn't own a laptop. Had to wipe it out and then re-install Windows XP and get the laptop ready. Forgot just how grueling this stuff can be for those of us that want a clean computer free of bloatware. You have to worry about temp files, and corrupt registries, virus protection and an endless stream of Windows Updates... updates for drivers... more Windows updates... program updates... more Windows updates...hardware updates... now they are Microsoft updates!

Two days of work and it's clean and perfect for this kids use, but dang, I can't wait to replace it with an Apple when we can afford it!

I had the same experience a couple of months ago when I had to wipe out my dad's laptop and re-install XP... I don't regret switching for ONE second :D

On a different note, it's good to see some action on the Owner's thread... This has been one of my favorite threads!! ;)

I really like Windows. Loved XP, thought Vista was tolerable, looking forward to Win7!

Just checked my panel model (9CA8) and it's one of the ones people who have it are swooning about. I feel privilaged :D

Incidentally, I've never seen this thread before, until now.

Currently running Win 7 on my ol' HP laptop, I hope to join that club :D in the next few months !!! Great thread btw !!!

How is Windows 7? I'm really looking forward to using it, but haven't bothered to get the beta as of yet. I'll wait for the official release to delve into its goodness:)

So you're not a mac owner yet; what model are you considering if I may ask?

I have had my Macbook 2.4 4gigs of RAM and 320gigs HD for 6 days. I have moved my itunes, and photo, off of a 5 year old Dell. I also moved my Garmin maps and waypoints. I am loving this machine so far.

Yeah, I've had mine for just over 2 weeks now, I love it.

The only gripe that I have with it is the stupid sound that the CD drive makes every time it wakes up from sleep. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to deal with it.

Getting my 2.4 macbook next month so that i can take advantage of the free ipod! Will upgrade to 4gb ram and 500gb hard drive soon after!!!

Where did you get your RAM from? I'm looking at getting 4GB in a couple of weeks myself.

My bad, for the late reply. I bought it online from some random guy. Got it cheap. Just to make sure, I replaced the RAM in his presence.

Working fine until now...

Cheers,

PS: Anyone wants to buy the 2GB DDR3 original RAM for their MB? haha...

Same here. Went from a 15" MacBook Pro to a 13" MacBook and I've been perfectly happy. Mobility is the main issue for me - I don't need massive performance since I've got a nice desktop for when I need it. What I do need is something mobile for on-the-go computing and for running my Keynote/Powerpoint presentations (connected to a projector).

My first MacBook (a black 2.2GHz model) was great in terms of footprint, even though it was only 1/2 pound lighter than the MacBook Pro I had before. The Unibody model I've upgraded to (about 3-4 weeks now), is even better - thinner and lighter still. Its about 1 pound lighter than the MacBook Pro (non-unibody) I had originally.

The MacBook is the perfect size for me - usable screen space (unlike some of the 1024x600 PC netbooks), thin, light and plenty fast. And with the backlit keyboard, multitouch trackpad and nice screen (I got one of the good ones), its essentially the mythical 13" MacBook Pro as far as I'm concerned.

Ok, so i've been doing some researching on getting a Privacy screen for my 15" Macbook PRO Unibody and wanted to know if anyone got suggestions? I've been looking at one from buy.com Privacy Screen, but want something that won't take away from my Mac. Thanx in advance!

Just got my first aluminum macbook off craigslist yesterday. Base model. I've owned several white MB's in the past, and this one is great. I was skeptical about the screen quality, but I received a 9C8B model (or so?) and it looks better than I expected.

I love it - much runs cooler than my old macbooks ever did. I'm contemplating a OCZ Vertex SSD for it to go along with the 4GB of RAM I ordered.

Windows 7 works better than XP period (not to mention Vista). I would say that if MS and the manufacturers play it smart, they won't load it with bloatware, and the user experience will be fantastic.
No you right I am not a mac owner yet, I'm waiting for WWDC, and I'm considering the 2.4Ghz uMB with either 2 or 4GB of RAM. But this forum has been great for various tips and tricks, that's for sure...

I pretty much did the same thing... MBP to a BlackBook and now the 13" Alum Unibody. And I agree... it is a mini MBP! My husband has my old BlackBook and I catch him eyeing my little beauty all the time. I suspect, when finances improve, it will get handed down to one of the kids and he'll spring for an Alum himself.

We're so ridiculous around here. You would think we joined an "Apple" cult or something. Hardly a day goes by that we don't revel in how perfectly and flawlessly our home network and everything else works. For us it's a freakin amazing thing to have all our phones, notebooks and desktops perfectly in sync. All of my information is always at my fingertips and with MobileMe... I can even tap into everything from anyones computer. And NEVER a glitch or complication. After 12 years of working from home and trying to stay connected with different devices, fighting networking hassles, and all the normal PC/Windows/Virus junk... we've been liberated. Free At Last!!!

Problems with mine:

1. Wi-Fi Card- Not good range (maybe my router??)

2. Track pad- Way to problematic. Apple can definitely fix it through software updates/firmware upgrades for sure.

Any ideas?

Other than those two things, nothing to complain about! Perfect computer.

Hey all, still new here, and haven't posted in here yet.

I have a 2.4gHz uMB I got in January.

I got myself a Moshi Codex case and a matching Concerti for my iPhone.

I take them both with me everywhere. Sooo portable and a major upgrade from my old white CoreDuo MacBook ;)

So far it has come with me to Mexico, which was awesome on the plane, and watching some movies while trying to go to sleep in the crazy heat lol.

I would recommend this 'Book to anyone, and also the Codex case. Top notch and really easy to carry around with the built in handle.
