I'm kinda liking this move by Apple. We basically have an "undercover" MB Pro

I like owning pretty unique stuff. And this MB will definitely be one, IMO.

Excuse me while I step up on the soap box for a minute...

I agree whole-heartedly. I love the way Apple puts the best of the best in everything they make. There are no "good", "better", "best"... it's all "best". Even the WhiteBook puts much of the competition to shame. It's a gorgeous, retro, piece of equipment to me.

So with all the specs being bumped up and all the prices going down, how do people buy the "Macs-are-so-overpriced" story? Have you seen the commercial with the big guy seated on a park bench with a teeny little netbook on his lap? Ridiculous. He looks like an elephant riding a tricycle. Who would want that when you could buy a $99 iPhone or $229 iPod and do amazing things and then slip it into your pocket. Or the Best Buy commercial that shows people shopping for the best deal on a laptop and unanimously picking PCs kills me. And they call us SNOBS. How does picking the notebook that doesn't freeze, doesn't require virus protection, doesn't need to be defragged or rebooted make you a snob? I think it just makes you smart.

And this conception that all Mac users are granola-eating artists ticks me off too. Birkenstocks hurt my feet, I can't draw a straight line or shoot a good picture... but I'm a MAC and I'm proud of it!

There, I said it and I feel better now. Thank you.

Price gone down (feel like cheated)

I had bought the MacBook few months ago - upgraded the RAM to 4Gb and now I see that Apple is selling a Pro for lesser price - WTH???

Singapore's Epic Centre is still selling the MacBook for S$2,088 while the MB Pro's price is S$1,988 with better specs - WTH???

Called the sales people at Epic Centre they asked me to call the Apple's Main Office and they can't do anything about it. Can someone do something about it?

I was going to buy iMac this month but this has made me change my mind. I loved my MacBook but now I feel like cheated. Who knows they will scrap the 20-inch altogether and reduce the price of 24-inch as well - what the fish....

Hmph...

Gess I wont be getting a 2.4 macbook like I previously posted. Its now a 2.26 MBP!

No worries. I've worked in Apple reseller for 4 months and I can tell you that resellers don't set prices themselves - the central Apple office in the respective country does. So until Apple's office lowers the price for previous gen, resellers usually can't do anything.

At least, they should give us an option to exchange the MacBook if the price goes down so fast.

The thing that really pisses me off is the resellers in Singapore are still selling the MacBook for S$2,088 and the Pro for S$1,988 - do they take the consumers as morons?

Arrrggghhhhh - I was so happy that I was going to buy the iMac at the end of this week but now I am so unsure about it. I can't take Apple as a trusted brand anymore.

Can you remember when Plasma TVs were first introduced and you couldn't buy one for under $14,000? As technology changes the prices go down. Hate to admit it, but I remember buying a calculator for $89.99 that now sells for under $10.

You might as well get used to it. You can't boycott everything or get mad at Steve J. The good news is your next iMac will cost less and do more... it's just the way it is.

Yeah but I'm sure your calculator took years to come down to $10 but MacBook took over four months to reduce its price.

To be honest with you - I don't like the "Getting Used to it" part. Makes me feel like I am being controlled by them.

I called up the main Apple office and this Customer Relations Lady told me that they are helpless regarding the price and launching of new generation MacBooks/Pro/iMac - whatever.

I hope they won't crash-land the iMac's price after I buy it. Decided to buy the iMac, after all.

Can't argue with S. Jobs? Why not? (lol)... Oh yes - he's on sick leave...

Honestly, I got my Macbook 6 months ago, and even though the new ones are out, I realize this computer is basically everything I need and more. It's slightly disappointing knowing you don't have the newest model, but that's just an immature thought, I know I paid for a great computer in the end, even if apple decided to lower there prices and change the name. I understand it happens.

But man, do I love my Macbook regardless.

Oh it's also important to know when Apple holds there press conferences, usually they are always around the same time of the year, so if your gonna buy a computer might as well wait till around that time if your worried about what price reductions, and spec boosts.

Price decreases are inevitable in the computer industry but rare for Apple. This hand was forced by the economy, otherwise prices would have held steadier.

Enjoy your MacBook, it's still the best notebook computer on the market. Mine is nine months old and I still love it. Although, I'm now lusting after a MacBook Pro 13, I will wait until Snow Leopard ships to pull the trigger. I'm still bothered by that sealed battery but love the inclusion of the FireWire port. :)

Ah - no worries. I still love my MacBook and guess, will love the new iMac too. Thanks guys & the lady for the infos.

I'm still happy as crap with our older iMac. I keep wondering how noticeable the processor speed would be... from 2.4GHz that I have to the 3.06 GHz. Mine's older and still like lightening. Tell us which model you finally get.

Is there a reason you have ruled out just getting a Cinema Display for your MacBook? I'm curious about those.

Cinema Display - hmm... it never crossed my mind.

A lot to ponder, I guess - haha. Although I want a separate desktop Cinema Display doesn't sound bad at all.

Absolutely loved this! Made me laugh out loud!!

I wanna make this into a T-SHIRT!

Someone just got a new 3Gs. I'm jealous. Is it everything they say it is??

You can make the check out to "MacLadybug" for the money I may have just saved you! Just kidding. The only reason we have the iMac instead of a Cinema Display is because 1. They didn't exist when we went shopping so we didn't have to consider it as an option. 2. My husband has X Plane flight simulator and he insisted that he wanted it loaded on a desktop and not a laptop to play it right. When it dies (probably never) then we'll have a lot to consider. But even when I work off the iMac (need a bigger screen) I still swap files and stuff back and forth from my Alum MacBook. Can't live without it.

Just to let you guys know, I've decided to buy iMac 20-inch with upgraded RAM of 4gb. Luckily, I met this guy who is willing to sell his two-week old iMac cause his wife doesn't know how to use it.

The price is darn good and comes with Apple Care. He said the computer is still in the box - felt sorry for the iMac.

Cheers,

Congrats, that's a great deal! I love my iMac too. In fact, Apple sells a ton of iMacs, judging by their bestseller list. :)

Oh this thing is amazing! Between selling my LG Dare to a friend and buying it thru work, I ended up paying about $80 for it. But it's worth $200 any day!!
It's so much faster than my friends' 3Gs that they're all jealous :D
I honestly believe I would have a hard time going back to a regular cell phone.

PS. Your website isn't coming up!

Not only is it so much faster, but Apple calibrated the LCD panel's colors, so it provides even more accurate colors. And the videos this thing takes are just amazing. The voice recorder, battery meter, easy-to-clean screen, speed, and massive capacity all explain why people are still lined up at Apple Stores for one. :D

I loooooooooove mine (bought on day two at the main Apple Store in SF). :)
