ok so... NO applecare! i just decided to chance it :) not had issues with this machine so far (knock on wood) .

.. and maybe i forgot about it and missed the deadline. just maybe

Ok wel good luck, chances are you will be fine with no care, i suppose a lot depends on how long you are planning on keeping the machine

Id wait a while. I looked into upgrading to a pro, and realizing my umb 2.4 is only worth about 1k w/ apple care, id be loosing 600-700 bucks in less than 6 months. Sticking it out for now, till i really need to get another one. For now, this comp does anything and everythnig i use it for.

hello guys.
i'm new here..
i'm Indonesian :D

btw, i very disapointed when 13" MBPU launched.. :(
not so far when i purchased this MBA
my MBA is 2.0 GHZ with 2 GB ram and 160 GB hardisk

is it worth to upgrade or wait until intel core i7 on macbook pro? :D

sorry for my english :D

Eww. You may be all right. I haven't heard anything of widespread failures or defects on our machines, other than the original 9c89 lcds and occasional reports of the plastic hinge cracking. Good luck.

Thanks guys. I'm hoping so :)

Hmm so the new macbooks are out. Not really a step forward from the Aluminium Unibody models though. They even left out firewire as well :p

Agree, it's a step backward. There's plenty of room for more ports. That's one expensive "budget" machine, should really be $800. You should see the $680 ASUS I'm buying my GF, it has a 500GB HD and is loaded with inputs. :(

Have any of you guys had issues with your trackpads not being as responsive as normal? Mine has been like that for a month or so now, did a reboot and still acting up. It's rather annoying because the tap to click does not always work and neither does the hard click, sometimes it takes me 2 or 3 times to get a link to open.

LOL! :D

No such problems with mine. Is it still under warranty?

yeah I don't really care for the round edges on the new macbook.
Still happy with my CE :)

Are you running Snow Leopard? I have noticed under SL sometimes tap to click doesn't work on the first attempt

Trackpad...

That's kind of interesting. It happens occasionally to me, but I have a Moshi Palmguard on my Alum with the trackpad guard on as well. I thought that was the reason for my having to use repeated taps every once in a while. Hummm, wonder if it is Snow Leopard. Are there any trackpad/Alum firmware updates?

For me, it's very rare, but I do notice it when it happens. Since it's very rare, I haven't really made it a big issue enough for me to take it to the Apple Store to have them take a look at it.

good decision :D
maybe i'll upgrade at the end of 2010

I'm still loving my early 09 Alu book!

2.4ghz, 4gb ram, 250HDD and back lit keys!

My only gripe is that every now and then when i close the lid, it does like a cracking noise. I've noticed the hinge on the back is slightly raised at one side and thats whats causing it.

I have a 2 year warranty with the retailer I bought it off, so might just wait a bit ;)

I am getting a flashback about an issue posted here on the forum where the cable to the screen was not positioned right and it was stretched and sprung back and forth giving a snap sound during open/close. Could be it perhaps?

I think it is SL as i never noticed it under Leopard. And i haven't heard of any firmware updates to resolve this but then i wouldn't be surprised if it is ironed out once SL gets more finely tuned.

Same here with my '08 2.4 98c8c. The only reason I would want a 13" mbp/mb is for the extended use/extended life battery. But I don't want it enough to take the huge financial hit in selling my current rig and buying a new one.

Now if my 2.4 dies under warranty, and apple chooses to replace it with a 13" mbp, I'd be fine with that. Otherwise, I'm good.

Yes, it's an amazing laptop, but I'm currently reporting on an HP dm3, which I bought for my GF. The HP dm3 is a $550 Windows 7 entry that gets amazingly close to the MacBook in terms of solidity, design and weight/size, all for a third of what I paid for my MacBook.

Wish Apple had more competition. Their intransigence on lowering prices will continue as long as people keep paying for their high margins. The new IceBook should have been priced at $800.

I'm kinda liking this move by Apple. We basically have an "undercover" MB Pro

I like owning pretty unique stuff. And this MB will definitely be one, IMO.

I would probably buy the 2.4UMB over the new 2.2 13MBP today. I think the speed is negligible and I dont really need firewire or the SD card. On the other hand, the replaceable battery is a big deal and cant believe the MPBs dont have this.

Also, its literally a limited edition. I wouldnt be surprised if the resale value holds better for these than the MBPs.

Hey guys, my first post here and I just want to say that every experience I've had with a windows computer has been absolutely arbitrary, so me and my entire family uses macs. It's gotten to the point where I actually bought my own MBP using my sister's education discount (hehe

) so I bought it for about $899, and I can safely say I'd probably have paid $400 more if I had to. It's a completely phenomenal computer and as a 14 year old I can say I'm absolutely thrilled to the core to own one. I also have an MBA that my parents bought me, and it's a nominally worse computer but I still love it to pieces too. I need to buy a good desktop now, however, because the best one we have is only like,

Your every experience with Windows has been arbitrary ?

Meh, I used that word kinda wrong. Basically, windows is the ********* piece of **** I've ever seen, It's the biggest beta test in the history of the world I'm pretty sure.

Also, arbitrary:
arbitrary |ˈärbiˌtrerē|
adjective
based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system : his mealtimes were entirely arbitrary.
• (of power or a ruling body) unrestrained and autocratic in the use of authority : arbitrary rule by King and bishops has been made impossible.
• Mathematics (of a constant or other quantity) of unspecified value.
