I'm getting rather tired with all this Firewire moaning and moaning and moaning. Buy and adaptor for God's sake!

I really doubt an adapter is going to work well, if at all, in most cases. These are two completely different serial protocols. I don't see how a device can speak Firewire while the computer speaks USB with just an electrical conversion to do the translation. These protocols are implemented by considerable software that expects the other end to speak the same language.

For sure you won't be able to get target disk mode with an adapter, which is what I'd be looking for.

Sorry, the adapters stink even if they exist because USB 2.0 is lousy for sustained transfers when compared to Firewire. It's that simple. It's not a big deal in the Pro for a variety of reasons (FW800 and ExpressCard) but it IS annoying in the MB since you don't really have an option. (If there's a decent USB to Firewire solution, does anyone have a link?)

Apple's pushed Firewire and then pulled it out from under the rug on is. That's just flatly irritating.

There is no denying the new build quality is outstanding, but the black keyboard is still fugly. I wish they kept the matching keyboard that has been with us since the G4 PB. But really, other than they keyboard, this thing is killer.

Glossy sucks too.

I disgree. The shiny metal keys has always rendered the backlighting useless. I mean, I am hardly ever in a dark environment where the light from the LCD doesn't reflect off the silver keys with the same luminosity as the backlight.

I've considered the backlighting useless for years.

I'm still bummed they didnt come out with a black aluminum, that would have completely sold me on the black keys, everything. Black is so much slicker.

I just played with the laptops, what a thing of beauty. The trackpad is so easy to use, it seems natural, well built and sturdy. As soon as the Air is updated, I plan on getting both the MBP and MBA. :D

I agree.

I would have liked to see one in all black as well. I think it looks so much more professional than plain aluminum.

But I still think these are the best looking and best built laptops on the market today. They feel tremendous and the fit and finish has jumped another notch.

Nice work Apple.

Sorry the MB lost firewire. I think Apple made a mistake there.

Blame it on Steve Jobs.
I am sure Johnathan Ive would be a better leader now.

Steve Jobs is notorious for being very unreasonable. Unfortunately, he's also a brilliant visionary. Wired did an article called "Evil Genius" a while back that was quite interesting.

I'm curious to see what happens with Apple without Jobs. It wasn't pretty last time! We'll see. I hope Apple's sum is greater than just Steve Jobs or they're in trouble. He looks terrible right now.

Is Ive next in succession? People talk like he is, but is that true?

That would have been one good looking machine.

I think it is more likely that Steve Jobs is notorious for being extremely demanding and a perfectionist. He probably is therefore somewhat hard to get along with if you are not of the same mind... It is surprising that you think it "unfortunate" that he is a brilliant visionary.

Is anyone else just floored at how well designed this thing is on the inside?

nice to see memory will be very easy to upgrade:)

=/ shame to see it wont support more than 4GB of RAM, but with Snow Leopard it seem like alot of things are going to be alot less spec intensive all over the board.

An analogy:
Mac OS X Leopard = Crysis

Mac OS X Snow Leopard = Crysis Warhead

What are you ladies and gentlemen more impressed with: new MacBook or new MacBook Pro?

I am impressed with the new Macbook... Impressed that APPLE had the guts to take off the Firewire and upset MANY customers all while in the middle of an Economic ressession... Now that's impressive APPLE!

The Macbook is disqualified because of its lack of Firewire. The MBP is everything one could want, except it doesn't come in a 13" model. It's too bad Apple didn't find some way to provide the happy medium.

(When I say "disqualified," that doesn't mean I won't buy one. I just mean I think they missed the boat there.)
