Help!

I'm in a real bind... I sold about a month ago my XBOX360 Premium and loads of other gadgets so I had enough cash to afford a new iBook.

I thought that it couldn't be too long after the Intel Mini for a new i/macbook... as we all know that was a bit of mistake!

So now i'm stuck with a horrid Vaio P3 M that was just a filler for my new Mac

However the filler is becoming far too permanent for my liking. The 15" MBP is just too big for me as I like to sit infront of the tv and use my laptop and I find that 15.4" units are too big for this. Also they are quite a lot of cash (If they were available in 12" or 13.3" I might be able to find the extra from somewhere:) )

Help i'm Macless and stuck with no sign of a release date for a smaller MBP or Macbook!

I have a few ideas...

1) Buy a 12" iBook G4 (Don't know how I could bring myself to buy already way out of date technology!) and then sell it when the Macbook comes out (Probably losing many $$$ or £ in my case) then get a Macbook (Possibly wait for the rev. b/c Macbook so any issues are ironed out)

2) Wait for the Macbook (Could be a week, month, 6 months, year?) and suffer life with no Mac and spending the days reading the IT news hoping that i'll refresh the page one time and there will be a headline saying its here.

Any advice or other ideas are very welcome and come on Apple, give us a i/Macbook!!!!!!!!!!!

We are all waiting eagerly for apple to get off their butts and give us something. But to no avail, we have seen nothing as of late. I would reccomend this,

1. If you are going to buy an iBook, you might as well get you self a Macbook Pro. I know it's a bit big from what you want, but it prolly going to be worth the extra cash. Especially since you are thinking of buying an iBook and loosing money one it anyway. I think that getting the lowest end Macbook Pro would be a better investment.

2. Just sit it out like the rest of us. Remember this Patitences is a virtue. Good things comes to those who wait.

That's my two cents.

possibly...

A couple people are saying that the stores are drawing attention away from the ibooks, and on the 'which mac' page they dont have the ibook up. so all in all it seems they are dragging attention away from the ibooks, which leads me to think that that may be because they don't want people buying them cause the macbooks are coming out soon. at least i fricking hope so!

by the way

i know a lot of people say they dont care about little things like the isight and the remote- but personally i do- cause i think their cool. but anyway for those who do care i think the macbook will have a remote and isight because on the which mac page it says that on all macs theres an isight and a remote. so. that makes me :D

I saw that too. But the Mac Mini doesn't...so....

But I agree with you; I bet the MacBook does have an iSight and a Remote. Unfortunately for you MacBook buyers, Apple has to differentiate their product lineups somehow...probably through no graphics cards.

man,
I hope you are right. It's funny.. a little over a week ago all these sites are going nuts with predictions and "reliable information"..now, nothing. I am starting to realize one thing. Rarely are any of these rumors correct..They are what they are...just rumors. The more I research and ask around..I am starting to believe that it will be longer that any of us think...My main reasoning is this: If apple is just about to release a new "MacBook", which will
more than likely be one of there best selling products ever. Why would they start the Mac Campaign and TV adds now....You would think they would wait until it was out, so they could show the whole line (again, only if it is so close)..makes sense to me (or no sense,,I don;t know anymore)..So I'm thinking everyone is way way off.
Apple did it, they converted me, and just when I am ready to buy..I may have to walk.

The Mac Mini has Front Row. So will the MacBook. And it will have an iSight, there is no doubt about that.

This laptop is going to turn the tables for apple. They'll be priced from $799 to $1399. They'll have 3 models. $799, $1099, and $1399.

These laptops will come in different colors, including black with aluminum trim. They will look so cool at such a great price, with the built in iSight and everything, they will seduce all the consumer laptop buyers. Apple will snatch at least 40% of the consumer laptop market with the new MacBook, and from there, it will only be a matter of time, before Apple takes over the comptuer world.

That would be amazing, but i don't think that would be very likely. The lower end seems fine. The question personally comes in with the mid range and the high end. I think the prices are right, but the components arn't. Considering the one for $1399 is pretty much a Macbook Pro. For the mid range, I think that intagrated graphics is prolly still an option, but an x1400 with 64mb would be the thing they would put in there. And with the high end product, i Think that it would be an x1400 with 128mb of ram.

But if you are right, I will be very very happy, because i'm looking at that $1399 with glee, cuz once i put the Education discount on there, it will be nice and cheap :).

That's true, it would probably have 128 in the high end... but you never know. If apple is finally getting their **** together in terms of pricing, they might give us 256 for $1399.

I'm guessing that we won't see a MacBook for under $1099. Apple has not been dropping their prices as they introduce these Intel models. They increased the price of the only entry level Intel machine (the Mini) by $100 over the PPC version, and the Intel version does not have an iSight (which we expect to see on the iBook).

Cuz that would make sense when compared to the MacBook Pro...

No new computer, no matter how cheap, will have less than 512 MB of Ram. And no 'Macbook' will have more than 128 MB of VRam - at least, not on a standard model - and will, in all likelihood, have integrated graphics.

When you 'predict', remember that Apple must justify the 1999 and 2499 MacBook Pros. Sure, they have a bigger screen and higher resolution - however, that alone doesn't justify a 600 dollar increase, making your 1399 dollar prediction...not good...:(

Again...why would the 2499 MacBook Pro have a 4x superdrive and the 13.3" MacBook priced at 1499 have an 8x superdrive? 500 dollars extra for 2 inches of display???

I disagree somewhat... The bottom line may have Combo drive only, but the two upper models would have the 8x SuperDrive.

Also, no way they would go to 256MB RAM. You can't even find that low in any other machine. To run Tiger you need min. 512 RAM.

Also, no way they would put a 256MB VRAM in a MacBook. You have to go to the MacBook Pro to get that.

They want to keep these comps for kids, parents and casual users. Any serious graphics would stick to the pro line.

I'm moving out in June I hope they release it by then, I need something to watch movies on.

A $799 Core Solo Combo Model Could Grab Major Market Share

The new Apple might just go after that sub-$1k market with a Core Solo Combo model - IE a Mac mini with a screen. I think it might be the most revolutionary thing they could do right now. Such a model makes zero threat to the Core Duo models that you and I all know are a must have - unless money is top priority OR only writing, web browsing and email are in the person's lifestyle. That $799 model will still run iLife apps well enough one at a time. I hope someone in marketing saw this as well. :)
