for those of you who missed the response earlier in the thread by somebody else, Macenstein has a a very interesting take on the whole brick thing.

it is now our belief that The Brick has nothing to do with the device actually looking physically like a brick at all. Rather, we feel it is likely that it is simply a name for an upcoming product (or group of products) that Apple thinks will be sexy enough to pull a huge marketshare away from Microsoft. After all, how do you break “Windows”? You throw a brick through them!

One reason we like this theory is that Steve Jobs warned investors earlier this year that there were some upcoming killer products from Apple that were going to be coming out towards the end of this year at very aggressive price points, prices so low it would likely affect Apple’s upcoming earnings. It is our feeling that such a drastic break from Apple’s traditional pricing can only mean Apple is looking to make a real push into obtaining market share from Microsoft, and these products represent a “Brick” Apple is launching that will “break” Windows.

So there you have it. “The Brick” will not be a brick-shaped Apple product (at least nothing more brick shaped than what they already offer). However, it DOES represent what Apple feels to be a truly powerful product offering at an extremely tempting price point. Personally, I think it is a $649 MacBook, but that’s just me.

brick is an anagram.

I think that Brick is an acronym. The imac received upgrades to its ram, bus speed, and other stuff. So Brick could mean upgrades like b is for bus speed, r is for ram, i is for illumination (led displays), c is for chipset, k is for keyboards. I would like b to stand for blu-ray but I think that is wishful thinking.

I also heard that brick could be a merging of mac mini with apple tv. Now that would be sweet!

i think they should stay 2 separate products.

wow, this thread really shows how desperate we really are. Its only been in the last hour that suddenly this thread has exploded. It only shows how desperate we really are.

TAKE NOTICE APPLE.

Brick

A big hint for this upcoming macbook update was someone saying its all about the brick. I don't think apple is going to revamp the macbooks and make it all about the battery or power supply cords. So I think we can all safely drop that idea.

That would be an acronym, not an anagram.

Ahh I was just about to start doing my homework and I thought I would check Rumors one last time!! I am so enthralled with this "Brick" thing now. I like the breaking windows idea. Whatever it is I hope it really is prices aggressively because I am in the market to replace my old ibook G4.

Throwing Stones

My Mom always told me to never stones in a glass house. But needless to say I found it lots of fun.

But throwing bricks through a glass track pad could be expensive.

So I recommend going back to abandoned buildings if you get the urge.

alright i only had one question

what do you guys think the odds of a macbook touch being real and thats what is coming out october 14th?

because i really do not want that, and i would rather buy the macbooks that are out right now.

May be the brick is literal?

Perhaps apple is going to build a new house out of apple G5s recycled into bricks?

why would you name something 'brick'? even codename it that. could go along the lines of 'clunker', 'hefty', 'garbage'

I think apple would come out with a tablet mac, similar to the iphone just a much larger screen, before making a macbook with a touch screen

September 23rd

Lets see if they release it today :). I sure hope they do. I need one by the end of this week as I start uni.

Personally, I can't see them releasing a new product i.e. the tablet before Macworld. New products are likely to be showcased at Apple's main event, Macworld.
