That wouldn't be to hard to belive, because the 29th is a Tuesday, it's 2 weeks untill Paris and 3 weeks has passed from WWDC. I think it's a perfect day.

Apple doesn't seem to adhere to the old standard of Tuesday releases anymore, which is one reason why there are still frequent jokes about Tuesday on here. I'm not sure if they've ever released anything on a Monday, but other days of the week besides Tuesdays have seen releases.

But I'm all with you. I've got my $3000 saved up for the merom 17" MBP. I can't wait to empty my wallet to get one.

Of course, I just happened to see a kick butt trailer for Unreal Tournament 2007 today that made me 2nd guess my decision to get a notebook, but then I realized I'm tired of huge tower systems and monitors taking up so much space in my office. I'm ready for a discreet all-in-one solution, and the MPB is it. Can't wait. CAN'T WAIT!!

I saw that trailer too! And the one for Crysis. And even if the MBP gets the Mobile x1800, no DX10 :( And I know that there will be an itch for my to buy another MBP once it comes out sometime a year from now with a DX10 graphics card... Those games are beautiful.

Ordered my MacBook 2 days ago and the order status says I should receive it on or before 7th September. Isnt that a big looooong, even subject to supply problems.

Help!!

Hey, Apple recommends getting their ram if i want extra ram with a laptop, their reason is that the ram they use is better since they are fully tested with apple products. But they're Expensive! is it better to buy a laptop with extra ram from apple or buy a laptop and ram from other vendors? what ram does apple use any way?

Get it from another vendor, for sure.

Hi,

Ive recently looked into purchasing a MBP and was looking into the dual booting into XP as im an avid XP user for many years. Although the new macs with intel duo are looking very nice and also as a music producer im looking into purchasing a MBP with Logic Pro 7. Also with the ability to use my beloved XP.

So while browsing about the forums ive noticed that apple are hoping to bump up the MBP to an intel duo 2 codename "merom". Now a bit of luck on my part i have a friend who works for intel!! Havent managed to speak to him about this subject yet as i "normally" dnt have anything to say about intel (Im a AMD FX-60 64-Bit User) But when he comes online or i can catch him on the phone ill ask him as hes involved with the developement of these new duo chips!! See if i can get some inside information!!

Although the real reason while im posting is i rang up a very well known UK based laptop building company which allows you to make your own laptop AMD/Intel. I questioned the man about these new duo chips and apple osx ... and what replied with was a little intresting!! He said along the lines of ...

"Im not sure for definate about the shipping and future plans with these chips but by the sounds of it August the 28th is when its all kicking off as we have a meeting with intel"

Didnt think he meant to have said that as he paused at the end of the call lol!!

Some more info for definate will be posted when i get a chance to chat with my m8!!

So hold tight august 28th!! Ill be ringin the man back to find out the situation!!

I've been following this forum for quite some time, reading up on the impending upgrade, and I just had to join when I read this to tell you: good going! This has been the one thing I've been waiting to hear - something with definite hope - my heart is in my throat, and I even did a little dance. And I'd like to believe that pause was an INCREDIBLY meaningful one... haha.

this is definitly good news...i have my credit ready to order AS SOON as this damn thing comes out. i cant wait, i have defnitly decided to wait for merom and go from there....

I thought you might like to have heard that ... Ill be waiting to see what the man at the company says on tuesday the 29th when i ring back :) ... Hoping he can give me some info about these chips and whats going on with them and the Macs!!

Still havent managed to talk to my friend at intel yet but he normally comes online around 5-6 pm GMT .... so i will have a word with him when he gets in!!

Hold tight for further updates!!

Could be comming sooner than we think !!

will it be available in the UK at the same time?

Join the club ... this is primarily why i want a MBP ... im starting uni late september and i hope that they will be on sale in the UK around the same time as the US .... But i got a horrid feeling that its going to be US first as they allways get stuff before UK .. games, movies, puters!!

Just have to w8 and see .... but thinking about it ... if the man at the UK laptop company i spoke to is going to be recieveing these new duo 2 chips after aug 28th .... then they have to be shipping to the UK so theres no reason why apple in the UK wont be recieveing them for the MBP's ... Alll speculation atm!!

Time will tell!!

Definitely buy from another vendor - you pay to much of a premium with Apple. There are many vendors out there who sell just as high quality RAM as Apple for a fraction of the cost. Just make sure whomever you deal with guarantees their RAM to be 100% Mac-compatible and has a lifetime guarantee.

I just ordered a MBP 30 mins ago. My estimated ship by date is Aug 29 and the estimated delivered by date is Sept 1. I really, really need a new laptop now. If the updates are done by then, great! If not, I'll risk loosing $300 to $500 by selling it on Ebay. Actually, I'll probably keep it for 6 mos until Leapard and get a new one then.

BTW, I'm a long, long time PC user. This is my first MAC!!! :D

Congratulations! Regardless of what happens, I know you will be very happy with your new MacBok Pro. It's a great machine, and even if an update comes in the near future, that won't magically make it any less of an amazing machine. ;)

And obviously, if you have any questions once you receive your new MBP, just ask them here on MacRumors - we're all more than willing to offer assistance. :)

I really cant w8 to get my hands on the shiney new peice of kit !!!

Need to find out bout the merom chips first!!

Njoy it when it arrives :)

Thanks for the info. I do have a couple of questions:

1. I selected the 100GB 7200rpm HD over the 120GB 5400rpm HD because of speed. A guy at the MAC store said that you don't really notice the speed. I did not completely believe him, so I ordered it online instead of buying it at the store. The store did not sell the 7200rpm drive. Any comments?

2. I also orded the BRENTHAVEN PRO BACKPACK that takes 5 to 8 weeks to arrive. Is there a better one out there or is this it? I did see it cheaper on other sited, but they had no return policy.

Hello, when the new MBP comes out, ill be first in there to buy it.

it will also be my first mac, really hope it comes out next week, if not i can wait, but waiting is a real sting in the balls

Others with more experience than I here have agreed with the guy at the Apple store. Having more space on the drive is more important than speed as well. But because the 120 is so dense, the speed is almost as fast as the 7200 model.

this will be my first mac too...long long time pc user, i just cant wait...i am SO close to just picking one up now but i have talked myself down to waiting...o well..:) i am going to NYC apple store this weekend, (the new glass one) and if i get crazy enough i might just grab one there..:)

It may be true about US getting movies etc before the UK but never apple merch, etc...
The Mac Pro was available in the uk the same day in fact every mac iv bought has been released the same day so i dont think that apple will differ this time

Thanks Multimedia! I should have asked that here in the beginning to get a 2nd opinion. I am going to take your earlier advice and not open the box when it gets here (at lease a couple of days). That would put me at Sep 3 or 4 since the delivery date it the 1st. I hope the rumors are true about the 8/29.

Careful

Careful guys. I was in this same situation last year with new ibooks, waiting to get my first mac ever. It does not end when you get your first one though. I thought I would be satisfied, but now I am back on these forums every day waiting for updated mac minis. Macs are so addictive.

I'm also wondering how much difference there is in heat between the two drives, I would like the speed of the 7200, but if there is a big temperature diff, it might make me change my mind when I get the merom mbp..

I'm thinking it would be minimal, but one other thing you might want to consider is any extra power consumption that might be required by spinning the 7200 rpm drive as opposed to the 5400 rpm one. It may impact battery life ever so slightly.
