I'm curious to see how well VMware Fusion will run on it.
It runs well on my MB Air M1 8GB.👍

And whether the Asahi Linux Project will take on the MacBook Neo.

I unlock my M4 Mac mini with my Apple Watch, and use less than half of the 256 storage, so the base silver Neo would work well for me if I didn't already have the mini and an iPad. And when Micro Center inevitably puts them on sale down the road, I'm reminding myself that I do NOT need a Neo! 😂 🤞

That model comes with Touch ID.

I wonder if Apple has thought through the number of MacBook Air sales they will now lose because there's a pink MacBook. Screw the specs, people will just buy the one that is pink.
Historically, Apple is fine with cannibalizing the sales of a product when they roll out something new that they believe will sell far more over time.

I've owned Macs since 1990, and used them since 1988. I've seen this several times before.

Exactly. One of the demos for this machine must be teenage girls. Note: I said "one of the demos." If you're an ex-special forces male bodybuilder who wants a pink MacBook Neo, that's fine, too 😛

Don't confuse early sales results with success. We all know how strong early sales for the Vision Pro turned out

The same goes for the iPhone Air

I'm not saying the MacBook Neo will be a flop, but rather people shouldn't rush to judgement.

How many people buying this will return it? Most places (in the U.S.) have a 14 day return period. There could be a lot of returns like with the iPhone Air once people realize some of the shortcomings.
You are comparing a $600-$700 laptop to $3,500 mixed reality headset. I’d have bought a Vision Pro if it didn’t cost so much.

Especially if that new product promises to bring in millions of new customers to the Apple ecosystem - who will upgrade to more expensive products down the line.

It's so good to see Apple launching a hit product.. after all the other disappointments with Touch Bar, butterfly keyboard etc etc..
2013 to 2018 was rough for the Mac at Apple. Apple was increasingly frustrated with Intel for their inability to make a low power, efficient chip.

I believe Intel's problems ultimately led to Apple fandom and Apple corporate falling out of love with Jony Ive, as his hardware designs were for chips that had not been made yet.

Apple had to call that "come to Jesus" meeting where they invited selected reporters and admitted that mistakes were made, and they had a pathway to fix it. That pathway was Srouji's team and Apple Silicon.

I actually had the $699 version of the Neo in my cart at Apple’s online store when my head cleared. Instead I ordered a refurbed M4 MBA 16/256 for only $50 more. Should I have ordered the same MBA back when I could get a brand-new example for the same price? Sure. But I was holding out hope that the Neo would be thinner and/or lighter. It turns out that it’s not. And who’s to say my “refurbished” MBA isn’t actually new with Apple dumping supply now that the M5 MBA is out?
Apple refurbished is great. If memory serves, you'll get the same warranty as BNIB.

For $50 more, you now have a P3 display, true tone, haptic trackpad, legitimate Thunderbolt ports - which can push up to 2 4K displays at 144Hz each, all on top of 16GB of RAM and a better sound system.

You crushed it Bro.

The only time I’ve had an issue with an apple computer it was a new one.

I honestly prefer to buy a refurbished from them

It’s not like Apple makes refurbished easy to find on their store. And many people don’t know the difference between certified Apple refurbs (of which I have purchased many when they represented good value) and sketchy Amazon and Geeksquad reconditioned products.
Seems easy to find to me:
