no backlit keyboard in 2026 is shameful.
You think Apple would build into Tahoe a 500 nits white border around the screen or down below the dock to illuminate the keyboard from the panel. Might be a good app for a developer to create.🤔💡
Remember someone created Christmas lights around your screen, same thing but just a bright white border.
Or the future panels could have directional beam forming polarized LED shining only on the keyboard.

Called this. A lot of narrative around the value here at $499 was so blatantly dishonest for two reasons. One, that is not the starting price.
$499 is the EDU price which can be gotten by anybody as Apple doesn't "check". Nothing dishonest about it at all so behave.

Yeah so those shipping times are meaningless. Walk into an Apple store and pick one up.

Like when the latest iPhone launches. "OMG the iPhone 19 Pro Max Ultra 256GB dusty blue shipping time has slipped to 2029 😱😱"
I'm happy you live near an Apple store. Last time I went to an apple store it was picking up my M1 Macbook Pro, in covid times so it was an outside pickup lol. and that only worked because it was an impulse buy and I was transiting through London

"Without knowing how much supply there is for each configuration, it is hard to draw any conclusions from the delivery dates listed above." So are they really selling out?

Just curious, but when was the last time you looked at a key to press it? I think it’s a unique decision to drop it, but then I realized I haven’t looked at a key in so long it seem a simple way to save. Although they could have added it to more expensive version with 512gb

Apple refurbished is great. If memory serves, you'll get the same warranty as BNIB.

For $50 more, you now have a P3 display, true tone, haptic trackpad, legitimate Thunderbolt ports - which can push up to 2 4K displays at 144Hz each, all on top of 16GB of RAM and a better sound system.

You crushed it Bro.
The refurbed Air is certainly an enticing option at that price point. Still a few factors in favor of the Neo, but that is definitely a better value for many/most users.

I look at my keys all the time and since 99.9% of laptops have a backlit keyboard I'm assuming most other people do too.

Beucase it's only 100 more and you can get 100 as discount if you're a student - so basically the upgrade is free?
The 512 is the better consumer model and the better model for a student to buy themselves if they (or family) can afford the extra $100.

The 256 is the enterprise/education model where local storage isn’t used or even allowed and biometric logins are useless because they are tied to individual machines and can’t be administered remotely.

these sales most likely aren’t schools or enterprise yet. And maybe not even students. These are Apple fanboys wanting a low price travel computer. If I get one it’s because I can use an educator discount and I feel better about traveling with it than my $950 Air that’s connected to my monitor
