I'm seriously amazed by all this. That Best Buy can sell them before any Apple Store in the US even has them in stock is astounding.

Yep, or that Best Buy gets them before those of us who ordered from Apple at midnight on April 10th. Unless BB is selling their demo units which I think they are. Thats a no-no.

I dont understand why Best Buy is selling Apple Products before Apple Store.

Best Buy must have just received a shipment today. This morning I couldn't even find the rMB on their website. Now I can find it, but it only lists ship to store dates. Sounds like finding in store stock will be luck of the draw.

This is what happens when you have Angela Ahrendts heading retail.

I got this from BB...before I could through the Apple Store...

Angela, this is not fashion. Please get you act straight and do some justice to the salary you get.

Utterly incomprehensible, actually. Best Buy clearly gets very, very good treatment from Apple! :apple:

For what it's worth, remember that BB's shipments were microscopic, apparently no more than a couple in a store, and I called all over MA and NH and found exactly two rMBs. I bet Apple Stores will start showing inventory tomorrow, Wednesday latests.

Except most Burberry customers buy more in-store than online. Same with other high-end fashion houses.

I've read in other threads that a new plant bid and won the production of the new MacBook and clearly they aren't pulling their eight. I don't think it's just up to Angela to pick release dates based on production capacity. That's a larger operations effort.

Straight from Angela herself.

I quote,

"The days of waiting in line and crossing fingers for a product are over for our customers. The Apple Store app and our online store make it much easier to purchase Apple Watch and the new MacBook. Customers will know exactly when and where their product arrives.
This is a significant change in mindset, and we need your help to make it happen. Tell your customers we have more availability online, and show them how easy it is to order. You’ll make their day."

April 10th? Oh yeah, online or retail, we couldn't get one on their "supposed" launch date.

IF they were going to make this online only order, they should've at least let people pick it up on April 10th at the Apple store.

Yep, picked mine up (the one and only one at BBY) today, 512gb 1.2ghz. When I went into Apple, it's almost like they're being trained to act like I'm stupid for not ordering it online. Uhh, why do you have a store if you don't sell anything? And how do you run a company where you have Best Buy getting stock before your own stores?

Wait, wait.. the guy that didn't believe Best Buy had any??? Hahah.
(I'm joking with you, by the way)

It's definitely been a rocky launch in terms of availability for the Watch and MacBook. No one is disputing that. I was responding to the comment about "Angela, this is not fashion".

Angela cannot unilaterally decide product launch. It requires coordination from manufacturing with retail. Not just one.

I like the online approach because I think it's a lot harder on scalpers. It was really frustrating to see scalpers walking away with boxes of 6/6+ phones after they'd fill lines with their own people to buy 2 phones each for cash. Granted they can still get multiple people to buy online, but it's a lot harder than sending them in with cash.

Apple employees probably didn't genuinely expect BB to get shipment before them. After all, Apple is the one making the product, not BB. What a novel idea...

I don't blame you. I would've preferred the option to order it online and pick it up at the store. That's what I was expecting when they said Macbook will be "launched" on the 10th. But that wasn't the option.

Obviously with company this large Angela isn't the one coordinating everything. I don't know any inside affairs and how online only idea was brought up and executed..but it isn't far fetched to guess Angela had some significant input since this is the first time Apple has done product launches this way and this is the first major product launch since Angela took over as the head of retail...

I just dont think 50K is HUGE demand for a MacBook. It seems like they shouldve had that many macs ready to sell before they announced it. That wouldve satiated initial in store demand. Scalpers dont scalp macs. This is a case where you want the scalper situation resolved but there is probably a better way to handle it than stonewalling customers who want to purchase it in store.

Best Buy selling MacBook but Apple Stores cant makes it look worse in my mind....especially after the interactions I had with Apple Store employees where they told me they had MacBooks for sale one minute then when I say great go get it they say they dont have it for sale. I all just seems so messy. Apple shouldve been more forth coming with letting people know what they were tring to do rather than couch it in cagey language.

If you are going to be the premium product line you need to be able to communicate better. Maybe waiting until April 7th to unveil the watch and MacBook wouldve been a better decision as you now have kept people waiting for over a month to give you $1400+....

I dont know it just feels like this couldve been handled better. I dont like having thousands of dollars tied up in bank purgatory while Apple struggles to pull it together.

Thank you for all this work you're putting up with. I really do appreciate this thread and while it's not looking good for me as an European I'm hopeful "one day" I will see more bold stuff :)

Haha thanks for the encouragements :)
Actually i'm also European (France) and I'm desperate with my order to be delivered in 4 weeks and no way to try the rMB @ Apple Store Cap3000...

Germany, Munich, both stores: Not displayed, not available. Employees have no clue when they'll even arrive, advised to check again "in a week or two" for more information (much less actual devices).

Same here in Germany, Düsseldorf

Thanks

...for this list. I was hoping to buy a MacBook Retina in store on April 10th (oh me the naive one with such lofty aspirations). Phoned Apple Retail @ 10am who confirmed there is no stock in any London store. Demo or for sale. He confessed, and he actually did say this, "it's all about the Watch.."!!

So I sang them a little song on the phone to help relieve my fustration

(to the music of Meghan Trainor's All About That Bass)...

Because you know it's all about that watch,
'Bout that watch, no macbook
It's all 'bout that watch, 'bout that watch, no macbook
It's all 'bout that watch, 'bout that watch, no macbook
It's all 'bout that watch, 'bout that watch, no macbook

Yeah it's pretty clear, I ain't no iWatch lover boy
But I do want that MacBook they promised us last month..
'Cause I got that credit card that all the stores chase
But it's all the wrong stock in all the wrong places
I see the magazines working that MacBook
We know it just ain't here
Come on now, make it here
If you got stock stock just raise 'em up
'Cause every inch of you is perfect
From the bottom to the top
Yeah, my momma she told me don't worry about the store stock
She says, Apple they just like to play games with your head
You know I just won't have no iWatch, metallic strap-on
So, if that's what's you're into
Then go ahead and move along

:)
