You say that like a fashion house isn't a legit business. I don't get all the hate on Angela just because she is from fashion. I guess MR folks don't see that companies like Burberry and LVMH are massive multi-billion dollar global companies.

Retail is 100% all about knowing your consumer. She was really good at knowing the fashion consumer. But whether or not she knows the tech consumer is the issue I think people are having here. Nobody discredits the fashion business. But if Apple hired a guy to run retail who came from BP and was in the oil retail business, I think we'd be equally skeptical that they know the tech consumer.

It is a legit business if you're in the market for overpriced gear that is about appearance over comfort and function. Plus it's all our of date in 6 months.

I'm not saying there shouldn't be a tech company that due that. It'll just be different from what apple customers expected.

Hmmmm sounds like Apple products ;)

Apple's Woodfield Mall Store in Schaumburg, IL

The above mentioned store has six display models, two of each color, available for viewing and, of course, has no stock to sell. These were there on launch day, Friday, April 10th.

Ps most if the floor is now dedicted to iwatches. Looks like a fashion store now.

That IMO was an unforced error. If you are going to start up new business it shouldnt have to be at the expense of an established business initially. Some will bring up iPad mini but the iPad mini already had a segment of the market when Apple jumped into it.

Smart watches up until Apple was rumored to be creating one have had almost zero interest from the public. At the end of the day I dont think they shouldve devoted so much rretail space to smart watches assuming what you said is true. I wouldve rather Apple not jepardize their tech business for fashion accessories.

Hong Kong has display Models

I am a Die hard Apple fan who would stick up for the Brand anytime.
Just landed in Hong Kong today and went straight to the Apple Store to see if I could score a rMB. They had display models (arrived yesterday) but no stock.
Sales people were very cagey but intimated maybe there may have stock In store on the 24th. Same message for the Apple watch. They stressed though that they had been told nothing.
I reckon that Apple will be pulling out all the stops to try and get some stock to stores of both products for the 24th to try and salvage some pride out of this debacle.
Here is me standing in an Apple Store today wanting to buy an watch and new MacBook and neither being available in store but "you can order online" and wait anywhere from 3 weeks to June/July for the watch.
I really hope this launch wasn't about saving dollars at expense of the experience.
Steve's mantra was that he didn't make decisions based on dollars it was about doing the right thing by the customer. I hope Tim Cook understands what damage this has done to the brand. In saying that, out of curiosity I went and had a look at the SS edge also. What a piece of Crap. Felt like it had been forged from an old Coke can.
Anyway, thought you might like an update from HK.

Looks like the 24th is being touted globally as the day some stores will get some stock. Anyway, couldn't agree more with your post. My sentiments exactly. Any which way you look at it it's bad. Over-promise, under-deliver is never a good thing regardless of track-record. There is a whiff of complacency here which could bite them hard. History is littered with big corporates who "lost their edge" and got complacent. Considered the risks they're taking in entering a new product space, their "they can wait whilst we start an operationaly efficient manufacturing run which benefits us not them" attitude to delivery is frankly very worringly; and I speak as a shareholder and brand devotee (to a point).

Well, there were none in display at Brent cross yesterday - disappointingly.

Can't imagine the situation would have changed, but'd be grateful for an update nevertheless - wouldn't mind playing with it, to determine if it can replace my perfectly good 13 inch air

None in Toronto. Called on Tuesday. No display no stock availability. Eaton centre guy said may be this week.

I was at the Trafford Centre store last night.
They had shelf space set up with the gold rMB displayed in picture form above the stand, and underneath… 4 empty spaces.
Not a one on display.

I didn't even bother asking the staff as it'd have been pointless and my order is in anyway so it's a case of just waiting it out.
Still massively frustrating though.

So now all stores are showing available Jun 4. With every day that passes will the timeline similarly go up in 1-day increments indefinitely? I am no mathematician, but that would indicate that we will never purchase this device (!).
I know at some point they will stock them, I just thought it was funny/interesting the way this is going so far.

markville guy said he has no idea when it's coming, most likely they will get the demo in 4-5 weeks. :(

use best buy. They have them ready to ship for delivery as early as tomorrow.

How would their education pricing work? Same 50 dollars off?

Additionally, if I am going to wait for store availability regardless, I can get a chance to see some accounts of how the 1.3 stacks up; specifically regarding heat generation. The education pricing upgrade to 1.3 is a straightforward 225$ compared to 250$ regularly. So all in all 75$ off. Thoughts?

I honestly do not know how best buy handles education pricing.

Nice. How about upgrade discounts? Or is BTO done through apple only...

Tried Regent Street again today.
No macbooks on display.
Most of the floor for iwatches

Today's staff said
* 4-6 weeks before they display
* buy one and return it in 2 weeks if you don't like it for full refund.

That refund thing impressed me.

thats apple only.

Figured. Thank you. It is down to deciding between a fast shipped 1.1 from BB, or figuring out the heat issue and possibly pulling the trigger and waiting on the 1.3 (both would be the 256GB).
