If it helps, I had a play with one in NYC last week as I was there on holiday.. It seems very solid, the space grey is a really nice colour, gold just looks too bling to me! The keys have an incredibly short travel as you would expect and it was a little weird to type on but I'm sure you'd get used to it.. All in all, a nice bit of kit but the one thing I did notice was that the display models (basic spec) were a tad laggy/slow so I'm definitely going to order the 1.3 special order one..

I found the Base Space Gr1y at Best Buy in Charlotte. Canceled the one that was being shipped to the Apple Store.

I am really surprised. I had predicted and would have bet money that these would be showing up in Apple Stores today. It's a good thing I didn't...crazy. Buying at Best Buy saved me $260, though, so no loss there.
I went ahead and ordered mine today from Best Buy and it will get here Friday and used the Mover's Coupon as well. It wouldn't let me use the education coupon as well. Think I could take it in the store once I get it and get the $50 difference from the education discount?
Why would you do that when you can go to USPS.com and forward your mail from your old address (even if it's been 10 years) to your current address and print the coupon instantly?
There's no excuse for anyone to buy it via eBay.

Originally ordered a 1.3/512/8G/SG at 3:03 am last Friday after putting through my Apple Watch order at 3:01 am. SS 42 Link immediately pushed to May 13-27 . . .
But I could've ordered a 1.2/512 macbook retina at that time with 1-3 days shipping. I always max out my
computers and did so here - but the wait time went to 3-4 weeks.
So, when I saw Best Buy (which I typically avoid like the plague) had the 1.2/512 in space gray with express delivery I was not a believer. Well, ordered last night at 11:10 pm (Wednesday) and just got my "shipped" notification on email, text and on the BB website to be delivered tomorrow (Friday).
I'm jazzed. Still gotta wait for theWatch but never thought I would have had to wait up to a month for the macbook. Now I don't.
Will buycare over the phone this weekend and bam. . . done!

I'm guessing Apple was surprised by how many orders were placed, and that they also were up against supply constraints. Seems like they may hav had to shift their own inventory from retail stores to fulfill online orders. If they'd committed some to best buy stores, they didn't shift some of those.
In store pick ups.... I was quoted 4/24 for regular in store purchase.

Same story - embarrassed staff who have no idea when the macbook will be on display.
Also no certainty on whether the display models will have an image editor or other moderately cpu-loading software installed so we can see how fluid it is or isn't.
One said yes photoshop would be installed. Another said no.

I think Apple probably haven't made any MacBooks with a UK keyboard at all, yet.
From my experience trying out other Macs in-store, they normally don't have any software installed other than what comes with the Mac. I usually end up having a play with some WebGL sites to give the GPU something to do.
