Hello community!
My PB G4 has finally died...
and I have just ordered a MBP (UK Educational) and although the original order was showing 3 days ( custom built upgrade) . I just got a call from a rep saying that there is a delay for 2 weeks... Obviously, I asked if this was due to the upcoming upgrade, but they would not comment. Although they said that I would get a new model if such one was to be released.
:cool::confused:

Awesome! I hope that you do get the new model. And if that is the case, hooray for me because i get my money for a new MacBook Pro in 10 days! If the time I get my money coincides with the release of the update, then awesome!

By the way, might I ask what size kind of MacBook Pro you ordered?

Didn't it take like 3-years for the G4 to Intel refresh? In a thriving economy?
I think it will be MONTHs before apple moves from the C2D on the MBPs.

This isn't entirely accurate. The move from the PPC architecture to Intel x86 was an entirely different update.

From Core 2 Duo to i5/i7 isn't as significant as from PPC to Intel.

Well, the scars are still there....

I remember I finally went and bought an G5 iMac and that thing was a nightmare...I think I had to return it 3-times over the course of two months...

To be honest with you (and the rest of the folks who are waiting for the new model) there is really no need to stress. I use my Mac for heavy computational work (Genetics) and for pro photo editing and I am sure that the current model would be equally as good as the upgrade that we are all waiting for...
I ordered 2.66 GHz model ( because it has a dual video card) and I put a maximum HD I could ( 500 Gb) but at 5400 as the faster one eats battery faster.. The rest was left default.
"MacBook Pro 15-inch 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm SuperDrive 8X (DVD+R DL/DVD+RW/CD-RW) Glossy Widescreen Display"
Would be a nice surprise though if I get a New New one :)

Well, for those saying, "Once the iPad is officially out, we'll get new MBP's..." The iPad date has been released! We'll see if you're right.

My bet is still on later in the year than we all would like.

Eeer... even back in the G4 dayd, Apple kept their ~8months release schedule:
http://guides.macrumors.com/MacBook_Pro_Buyer's_Guide

And that was in a time when they had no real tech-upgrades to offer since IBM didn't manage to create a suitable mobile version of the G5.

Hmmm...there has gone a long time without any new rumors now...I don't know wether it's a good or bad sign, but hopefully it means that apple is about to lance

Hey! I'm almost sure I heard someone mention that 287 days is the most time a Macbook Pro-update has taken.

You know...I almost get this feeling "please wait another 18 days so that we have beaten the record"-thing :p

Meh...but it wouldn't hurt me if it came earlier though

idea

What do you think about my idea, that this situation, the long waiting period before the next release isn't good for apple, because at this time, nobody (maybe nobody) buy a MBP. Everyone knows that the new model is coming and this isn't their interest to spin out this time. So because this won't be a big upgrade (no new design like in 10.2008) I think they've got problems with the hardware, or with intel..

The Micro Manager>

Do you think the Micro Manager (Steve Jobs) would really release something (MBP) that is going to compete with sales or glory of his pet project - THE I-PAD.

Well, he would be crazy to think that the iPad sales will surpass everything. I would put any amount of money on the bet that the iPod will sell thousands of more units than the ipad at any given time, excluding the initial release sales.

Hey guys, I just bought the MBP and received it on 1st of March, and only got to know about all these refresh things. So i was thinking of return the laptop within 14 days time as I haven't open the box. When I checked my account on apple website last two days it stated that if I want to return the product, the last day is 14th March (which is reasonable as the agreement said 14 days for full refund) and I was still consider whether I should return it that time. But when I checked again today, it appeared that I can refund the product till the 19th March! They extended the return date..Is that mean that the refresh is coming up?????

Not much news around a new MBP either lately lol. No news at all.
I don't expect it within this and 1 month. Like someone said before, I think it has problems with some hardware or Intel or something like that

Maybe... I can imagine the 16th march, tuesday of course

Hello there! :D

For you, WN345: Thank you so much for this information! I'm almost certain that the release have to be on either the 9th or the 16th. I mean, why the hell would the else change your date of returning? :S Seems to me like thei're giving everybody who got a MBP now a new chance of returning it so that they could by the new one! Fair enough from apples side...hehe:p

the Micro Manager cares more about money and the success of Apple as a whole. So I think it wold make the most sense to have the new MBP released by the time the wave of traffic hits apple stores. The better Apple looks when all those people come through the happier Steve is. If they buy an iPad, Steve wins. If they buy a new MBP, Steve wins. If the buy nothing, Steve loses. I think Steve would want to increase the chance of someone walking out of the store with a product. And the best way to do that would be to have the best products they possibly could have available when the iPad releases.

i came across this weeks best buy weekly ad and they are advertising the current Macbook Pro's this can mean they are probably trying to get rid of the current Macbook Pro's so that in the upcoming weeks they have no more of the current models and they can sell the refreshed models when they are announced. So since they are advertising them for this whole week i doubt there will be a refresh this tuesday but maybe the next one.

Best Buy actually advertises Macbook Pro's just about every single week. I work there and see that ad a ton, and it's been there every week I have ever looked. I think that we all are looking to hard into this now. I mean, we all want an update. I know that I personally need a computer for college (don't have one now :( ), and for music production. So, it makes the most sense to rough it for now, and just get the best computer for my needs when it comes out. But, I believe that only a few of the claims of 'insider macbook pro news', are actually even relatively legitimate. The Intel Retail edge one, probably alright. The NVidia gpu hints, probably. The Best Buy inventory, maybe. But the things like 'Macbook pro Ram 2010' and ' I heard from an apple associate' are pretty much trash. So in conclusion, we need to be reasonable as to what we consider a hint. We all know they are soon, and as frustrating as it is, we don't have any real idea as to the release date. :apple:

I've thought and thought this one over. He doesn't want a competition for the iPad but with Windows 7 and the rise at HP and the fall of laptop prices he's losing marketshare currently. So the smart move is to release an update for the MBP with a core i5 and slightly better graphics and keep the retail cost low. That will get most of us into the buy mode. Then after he works out the problems I believe he's having with i7, bluray, etc he can release again after the iPad hype has died down.

I say we all email complaints to apple saying if the new mbp does not come out this tuesday we will all switch to pc .well not really but just to trick them and they they will be like ohhhhh nooooooo! we need to release it before its to late and then they do and we are happy and we buy our new macs. Everyone wins except for PC'S. lol:D

Link showing the loss in marketshare, please.

Sales? Right, because a $2,000+ laptop and a $499 internet device/pmp are natural competitors, I guess.
