Count me in the "hope it's soon..." pool.

I have a first gen unibody MacBook Pro 15". I love this machine. However, it replaced my 13" black Macbook and I have to say, I miss the 13" form factor. I spend most of my work day on an external monitor, so the size really isn't an issue.

I've been waiting around for a couple months for the new machines so I can grab one of the 13" models. I'm really hoping for the i5 in those. We'll see. I'll buy one the DAY they come out too. Got my cash saved up and everything. :p

Goldman Sachs

hopefully they'll announce that it's a new mbp for everyone.. at no additional cost (seeing how they already scammed us out of 700 billion dollars)..

pure evil.

excuse me while i :barf:

Awaiting my first mbp

Ok. I have an iphone 3gs love it, converted my husband to an iphone 3gs and now I have convinced him to convert from the PC world to the Mac world. Come on new MBP's Jenny needs a new laptop  I will tell you that all the macbook pros are sold out in the 2 best buys within 20 min of my house and within 100 miles of my house I can only get macbook air and macbook. Maybe a good sign.

Apple would have to be insane to stick with the Core 2 Duo! It wouldn't force me to buy a PC (nothing will do that) but I'd rage a little.

Hopefully the 13inch MBP can get an i5. Do you guys/gals think they would only upgrade the processors in the 15 and 17? I hope not...

I hear ya...

Just did a comparison - not that I plan to go away from Mac - since I run both OSX and Win a lot so I want to be able to use both. But:

Sony VAIO F-Series

Intel Core Quad i7-820QM (1.73 GHz) TB to 3.06GHz
Win7 PRo
8 GB DDR3-SDRAM-1333
256GB SS Drive
Blu-ray Disc Read and Write
16.4" 1920x1080 display
GeForce 310M GPU with 512MB VRAM
Backlit Keyboard
2 year extended warranty
$2712.78 CDN

Apple MacBook Pro
Intel 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo
OSX
8 GB DDR3 SDRAM-1066
256 GB SS Drive
17" Display (1920x1200)
GeForce 9600M GT with 512MB VRAM
Backlit Keyboard
2 year extended warranty
$4341.00 CDN with Educational discount

Two things were really evident here by the way. 1) To upgrade the VAIO from the standard 4GB ram to 8GB RAM costs $318 compared to $609 from Apple. 2) The VAIO comes standard with a 320 GB 7200 rpm hard drive and the upgrade to the 256 GB SSD is $225. On the Apple, the standard hard disk is a 500 GB 5400 RPM unit and the upgrade to the 256 GB SSD is $660!

At this point, I'm actually paying a LOT for OSX. Sure the OS only costs me $80 compared to say $300 for Win7 (Educational prices all around) but the hardware costs me an extra $1400. So really OSX costs me 5X what Win7 does.

Still not switching but starting to question my sanity when for $1400 less I could get a lot more machine....

really hoping this Goldman Sachs conference is what we think it could be. Today is the one year anniversary of the refresh, and rumors have been flying out lately soooo idk

There is one new announcement today: Corel released Graphics Studio X5 ;)

Maybe Apple doesn't want to upstage the Olympics and will wait until next week?

You've got to believe that they want the iPad released on its own. Why would they want to obscure its launch with Mac launches?

But how long can they wait? April, May? WWDC in June? I think two weeks before the first iPad is available makes sense.

I saw that information on 9to5mac, it's curious...

What's the problem about the venue, they don't say anything about it.

The following is going to be logic based and therefore what i believe the most likely release and timeframe for the new MacBook Pro's

(You may point out faults in this logic)

1. Today is the one year Anniversary of the last refresh for MBP's we had. It is also the longest we have gone without a refresh.
2. Taking the information from point one, we would assume then, that Apple will not be waiting until June, because that would be absolutely absurd.
3. Apple will also not want to crush the iPad's launch with these new Macbooks, so we can also assume that the new ones will be either now very very soon, or much later. And with the logic from point 2, we can assume the former.
4.Today is a "Tech Conference" and this coming after the latest flurry of i7 macbook pro rumors. (1333 mhz DDR3 RAM spotted, benchmarks, etc)
5. I believe then, that we will see these new machines no later (if they are releasing them soon) than the First week of March. (based on logic from all these points)

Problems with the above anyone?? :apple::apple::apple::apple:

So is Tim Cook announcing them today? Don't believe so...

APPLE IS DEAD. AND SO ARE MBPs.
